Kia Stinger Navigation Map Update

I just checked the software version on my 12/17 build and it is the old version as in the picture @SteveCo posted. However MyUVO says my software is up to date.

Cheers

I think your UVO is referring to your UVO software not the car. Even those of us with telematics connecting the app and car don't have an option to see what version the car is.

How would the UVO app determine the software version on your car? What other info directly from the car does it display?

@Marc Collins Agreed. Just thought that may not have been clear from an earlier poster. Yesterday, the Nav showed me in the middle of a corn field, not a 4-lane road, so time for me to give customer service a call. Thanks all for this thread!

Cheers

My SD card came yesterday and I installed it and updated. I "had" to sit in my comfy "office" for c. half an hour through the process. Now I'm ready to be misdirected by erroneous details on my road trip next week! ;) (yes, technology is highly suspect to this medieval mind: the car is a total culture shock)

The first time I logged into myuvo.com , it knew about my vehicle because of the VIN. And it has a lot of current information about my vehicle. The Stinger periodically sends maintenance information to Kia so e.g. the website knows (as of the date that maintenance information is transmitted) how many miles until they recommend the next service and whether any maintenance issues have been detected, and I would not be surprised if they send the currently-loaded map and system information to Kia. At the end of the year, I will check on whether the system software has been updated and whether the website shows that it has (or has not) been.

I feel very strange, as if some "other" has taken possession of my body, a la "Heaven Can Wait", style. I have all of my memories and relationships in my head. But I don't view the world quite the same way as I used to. "Big Brother" is a concern, as always. But at the same time, the way the world is makes angst over being watched and known a rather feckless use of emotional energy. If "they" want to, anymore they can simply turn off or take over these cars. Already. We have literally no say in what these cars "know" and communicate with their creators and masters. We buy. They wield ultimate power. Live with it. This is the world of today and the future. I love my car. "Love" is a euphemism for escapism. That is known as irony. The degree of the irony remains to be revealed. Happy traveling (and speeding, when deemed necessary: heh! "they" obviously can know that too: it doesn't really bear contemplating, does it? ...).

I am not sure if it has been mentioned but I noticed in my extended warranty it says I get free upgrades to the navigation/entertianment system. There is a cap of $500 which works out to 3 updates which is fine with me.

Cool! I get two more of these. I've just installed my first upgrade SD card. Funny thing happened: I got the upgrade and installed it on Friday. The "Kia lady" called on Monday and said that she was reaching out to me to facilitate the shipping of a new SD card. When I told her that I already had installed mine on Friday she was nonplussed: why did I already have my new update, and who had processed my request and mailed it to me? Hmm! I had no answers of course. All I could say is that the new SD card had arrived in the mail last Friday.

Is this from dealership? How much $? What do you get (major items/features)? I don't recall even being offered one.

How can you check your Software version?

Go to Settings->System Info. You'll see a screen like this. You're concerned about the Map Ver. The one pictured was my old one. The latest nav map should say: NA.11.41.51.XXX (which is version 12)

Thank You. I was looking for it in the Nav settings.

My new SD Card arrived in the mail today. Any tips, or is it a straightforward swap?

Straight forward. Just takes time sitting in the car.

Say it with feeling: "You get to take time sitting in your cool car." ;) It takes less than half an hour, probably.

Can you post a screenshot of that section of the warranty? I'm having a tough time finding it.

The 'Kia Protect Mechanical Breakdown Protection' brochure I was given when the finance closer tried selling me various after-sales offerings contains a section on the 'Levels of Coverage' page, titled 'Multi-media software package (OPTIONAL UPGRADE)'. It is an extra cost add-on to the 3, 4 and 5 star 'plans'.

It states: 'With this package, the cost of all Kia recommended software updates to your vehicle's entertainment and navigation systems are covered (up to $500)'.

If you purchased an extended warranty, you would have had to opt-in for this additional coverage for it to apply.

So how much extra do you have to pay to get the "up to 3 free" updates?

I've done nothing about updating. On another family vehicle I usually don't do an update for 2-3yrs. Does the SD card have to remain in the car? And what are you supposed to do with older ones?
