There’s at least two standards for which notches get which signal. One example of a nonstandard setup is the one used by iOS. I’m pretty sure this is the reason that some adapters work while others do not. Different manufacturers go with whichever standard they see fit. My feelings are that holding in the remote button, which answers the phone btw, allows the audio through on a different notch and “fixes” the issue temporarily. It’s not that the Best Buy one is not as good. It’s more likely that the wire out is setup different than the headphones or the stereo are compatible with.
