Kia Stinger - Australia discussions (pre-release)

Whoa that's like 38k US for the 2.0. If those prices hold I'm out. Bummer
Above is all V6 3.3 prices only. No 4cyl 2.0 prices released here.

I'll be honest, I'm both relieved and disappointed.
They (Kia Aus) have delivered on a sub $50 k V6 Stinger, so the "full" performance sedan at a good starting price.
However because I've pre-ordered a "GT" I am less than impressed (at $11k more!) but I am yet to actually hear from my dealer. So with baited breath I hope they offer a reasonably good deal to get me across the line?

I got slaughtered on this forum about 2 months ago for saying the car would be $59990 before on roads.....

As well you should have been ;) ... cause for most, it is still too fkn high, especially the GT price.
It better be bloody good, like really really awesome good. And that is part of the dilemma none of us have seen it, let alone driven it!
The pre-order discount needs to be pretty hefty for me to pay them.

Asked my dealer if they would honour the price of 55k that they stated or a pre order discount and he stated sorry there would be no discount so I have cancelled my order VERY F#####G DISAPPOINTED with Kia Australia for stringing us along

They don't have to honor sh**, the dealer (or Kia) need to take this initial hit (for want of a better word) for the team, that's us...the pre-orderers/brand promoters/early adopters/customers/spokespersons/enthusiasts team. Once they are on the road then they can get the "traction" they need to meet the market. Trying before seems naive. I don't want to, but I'm prepared to wait.

To put this in some context....

Singer GT (V6 TT, 270kw, nappa leather, Sunroof, premium audio, etc ) 59,990 AUD

BMW 318i MSport (3 cylinder, 100 kw, basic stereo, no adaptive cruise , I could go on...) 62,337 AUD
BMW already have their "name" and pedigree in this segment, not Kia. Sorry.

That's the hurdle they will have to overcome. For some people the idea of a 60k Kia is too hard to stomach.

For me personally I see a fully featured V6TT that looks great, apparently drives well and has a 7 year warranty. Ok it doesn't come with a premium Euro badge - I can live with that.

I just cancelled my pre-order too :(
I am really bummed now :(
If I don't buy something else, I guess I wont be in one till 2018 or ever?

App_master, I thought you were a dead cert to buy one.
But I agree with you, the pricing is nothing like Damian Meredith said it was going to be back in March.
Before I make a decision I'm waiting on the specs for towing as it is a deal breaker for me regardless of the price.
Actually this week I have been developing my Plan B as I need a car in the next 2 months.

Me too, Shark16, me too...
I was pretty keen (still am). I just cant get past that either ... $50k becoming $60k now almost $70 (with options). I have not explicitly declined (in writing) the offer sheet (actually I have not seen it yet). I told the dealer over the phone "sorry no" but I will still counter offer, to not try would be doing myself a disservice. I just don't expect to win this battle. Not happy to, but I'll wait out the market. We've seen this pre-hype sale with the Mustang and the 86/BRZ before.. the demand will die off eventually.

PS. Like you too, I've had my eye on a little convertible, I might just pull the trigger on that one, to see me through.

Wow this is really disappointing...Kia really dropped the ball here. It should've been 55k tops drive away with exhaust. They really led everyone down the garden path with this one. A hell of a lot of people are going to be cancelling pre-order and losing interest now.

Sorry Kia but you aren't a 65-70k car manufacturer yet.

PRICES for STINGER announced

Check it out. $59,990 full spec GT

Some of you would have this info by now.

Seriously...a quick conversion puts the Korean top of the range 3.3 at aud $55k. By the time you add taxes and all the import stuff....65k drive away is not that bad. Someone said 67- that's a bit ,ugh but I think give it a few months and people will be getting 60-62k drive away.

Im still keeping my pre order, yes its more than i was hoping for but for the price what else is on the market with the power, luxury and to me looks?

I was originally looking at getting the m140i before the stinger as i need a hatch back . And demo model was $65k with only 3 year warranty .

I still see value in this car

I'm very surprised at the pricing Kia have brought this car in at. Had they been a bit more realistic with their pricing I believe they could have had a healthy sales success with it.
Just look at the Mustang GT, number one sports car world wide, only because of its value, does it have a euro badge no, but it's half the price of anything remotely similar.
I believe there won't be many people that will pay upwards of 70k (by the time the exhaust is fitted, a must for this car) for a KIA.
Most people shopping in that price bracket will only be looking for the euro image, and would have needed to been bowled over with really sharp pricing to entice them into a Kia. Is it better value than the euro cars, on the surface yes but not enough for me to consider it anymore.
Myself I believe the new 2018 mustang GT with 100 more hp (and less weight) for around the same money is where I'm now looking, totally different car I realise but I'm in a good situation where I can have what I want
For those that still have their heart set on one I would be waiting a bit as I'm sure after the initial flurry and excitement dies down there will be plenty sitting on dealer lots, and when reality sinks in prices will come down

Its a shame but I feel kia Australia has been drinking its own kool aid
