3.3TT Kia Stinger Aftermarket Exhaust Information and Discussion

That's the dilemma, I noticed the quietness immediately and realised that is what Kia were aiming for. I didn't rush in but waited to see over a period of months whether I would grow into the silence.

I didnt so after 6 months I ordered the Ark grip exhaust. I believe I will be satisfied.
Thanks for your feedback.
Did you own loud cars before?

Guilty. I like all my senses in tune:D. If there's drone it could be an issue especially on a long trip. Late last year I drove 1985km in 36 hours. It was like being on the water to long. Could still hear the droning in bed that night. My fault that was a WRX .

Have you guys ever questionned the idea that the Stinger needs a louder/sportier exhaust?
I am on the fence for putting down a deposit on the RES titanium exhaust with electric valve control. I met the saleman yesterday who had it on his car and went for a test drive. It sounds definitely good from the outside, and inside no sign of drone at all (unlike JunBL), but even with the closed valves, you can hear the exhaust note, not loud but louder than stock (which is pretty much silent).
Since it is not 100% similar as stock when valves are closed, it means I have to give up the stock "quietness".. Is louder always better?
I think I would have the same dilemma. I like a nice exhaust note especially when I'm out for a cruise enjoying the car. The stock exhaust is too quiet and detracts from the overall driving experience. Nothing like getting on the throttle and hearing the engine and exhaust howl. But, i have a small child and live in a dense subdivision so I need to be able to quiet the car down. The exhaust you mention sounds perfect. I could tolerate it if it was slightly louder than stock in quiet mode, but not if the 2 modes were loud and louder. Did you hear any overrun on deceleration in loud mode?
I've always but exhausts on my sport bikes and never regretted it. But I don't go obnoxiously loud.

I am not sure what you mean by overrun. Could you elaborate?
The exhaust was not so loud in quiet mode but it was noticeable, compared to the stock exhaust which is completely silent under 2~3000rpm.
(FYI the north american stinger has a louder stock exhaust than the korean one. Which means our cars are even quieter)

I forgot our cars are louder.... The KDM cars must be near silent stock. Overrun meaning when you lift off throttle after hard acceleration. I used to ride a 1000cc Kawi with decatted mid pipe and I it had an awesome burbling sound with occasional popping not like the obnoxious rapid-fire popping you can hear on the Focus RS. When it's forced by tuning it sounds artificial to me.

Hahahah I drove non stop from Maryland to central Texas (24hrs) in my STI with a loud exhaust. That rumble was the only thing I heard when I shut my eyes for a week. Now the DVT.... that lasted a bit longer

I ordered the RES bimodal titatium exhaust.
Install next wednesday. Fingers crossed.

Congrats, let us know how you like it. Post some videos if possible

I just got the exhaust installed this afternoon.
I will try to make some videos this week end. So far, no drone at all.
In terms of decibels, the exhaust is not as loud as what I recall from my previous exhaust*,
but I like the sound and I was told it should get louder as I put more miles on it.
When closed, it is almost impossible to tell from stock, in the lower RPM range, but if I floor it, it is clearly not stock.
I wished it was 100% like stock when closed, but I don't think any exhaust offers that possibility.
When opened, and in sport mode, it feels as if the car is faster than before, but I guess its just the thrill because of the sound. :D
The installation took longer than I expected, and more than half of time was spent working on the wiring from the muffler valve to the OBD.

BTW, the exhaust is really light compared to stock.

Wow....congratulations. That is a true beauty. It is titanium so it better be lighter, lol.
Looking forward to the videos

Nice, congrats on that. Since I'm new to the "remote open/close exhaust" thing, how does it work? You just flip a switch and boom, your exhaust is way louder?

Congrats. Look forward to hearing the sound.

Yes. I got a remote controller that looks pretty much like a car key with three buttons:
On
Off
Auto (valve opens automatically after a certain RPM)
The car needs to be running to open/close.

Very very little clip.

I will try to make some footage while driving.

Do they also make a non EVC exhaust?

I just heard again from Xforce saying the Varex exhaust will be out by the end of the month.

I have tried to make one but you can't see and hear very well. (I am no expert in video making:confused:)
I need to make another one.

I understand, I have to make one when my Ark system finally arrives. I'm going to have to "you tube" how to make a video. All attempts to edit any track day videos have ended in failure.... to old for technology.
