• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Is anyone running the Unichip plug and play Tune ?

With the jb4 is there any way to install it without drilling a hole in the firewall. Only reason say there is a warranty engine issue. Kia will look everywhere for a reason to deny warranty and they will find the hole in the firewall. Second if its jb4, uni, lap3 etc with uni do they alter boost like the jb4? The price is very attractive compared to uni.

They all alter the standard boost. With JB4 you don't drill into the firewall, just push the rubber grommet aside and feed the cable through - it will still seal out any water etc .

Mad so no trace at all? I have a mate who owned a skoda and told me that there is a trace and he is going unichip because of the drilling into the firewall. Also is there away to use it on map 2 etx without obd as I have a obd connected dash camera

Dom, as I said before there is no drilling into the firewall. You go through the gromet in the firewall. The skodas were abit different as their gromet was sealed so you had to cut it and the heat shield material on the other side normally falls off so its pretty easy to see a cable has been run on them. The Stingers are slightly different as stated above.

Woooaaaahhh... No drilling firewalls!

You can use a thin bit of yellow tongue or wire hanger to feed it through the gromet. It doesn't quite seal perfectly but it doesn't leak.

Why don't you run your camera off a fuse tap instead? It's a waste of a obd port considering what it helps achieve with the jb4.

I may do it down the line but i got the obd2 kit for the iroad x9 dash cam as it was quicker to install and i was in a rush. I'll be doing unichip as it seems to have more tweaks then jb4

You'd want it to have more "tweaks" considering it's more than double the cost.

JB4 do have custom maps though and a good app and online community.

Jb4 has 5 year warranty. It's also $780 without the wireless kit but you'd want the kit for the app and obd data so yes $1k. Unichip isn't $1.6k because you need to get it dyno'd and setup for you car. So it's actually $2k. = double cost.

I spoke to unichip and they said 1.6k and pre done maps and where is this 5 year warranty is this from an Australian company? Like Say your engine blows how will jb4 cover ir if they are in America?

The whole reason your go with unichip is to get your car dyno'd and setup perfectly especially if you've got drop ins, CAI's or a cat back. Otherwise you're just buying the equivalent of a JB4 and throwing away $600 which could buy you intakes or some BOV's. It's your money though so good luck with your upgrades.

It also buys warranty 3 years aswell as 5 custom dyno tuned maps, a app, Bluetooth modual. If you have an issue you take it back to a unichip dealer. You have an issue with jb4 who do you take it to.. you have engine issue uni has you covered even if kia doesn't jb4 doesnt

They offer these warranties because they know nobody's gonna claim it.

Anybody know what all the unichip controls? It plugs into the ecu harness so much more possibilities. Hear it can do the brake snip mod also for extra$. Jb4 just intercepts both boost sensors and reads from the obd port optional and splices O2 for fuel control optional.

Unichip can control ignition timings, as well as a bunch of other stuff.

JB4 has multiple maps including a custom you can select on the fly using the app too. You can also use the app to monitor everything and anything.. speed, boost, throttle, AFR, temps, etc..

I'm suggesting that unless you're racing to shave off hundredths of a second from your 1/4 mile, the Unichip is NOT going to deliver twice as much performance as a JB4. You'd be better off saving $1k or putting that into intakes or an exhaust which you WILL notice for the money.

Forget the exhaust then.. get something else? Intakes, BOV's, wrap the roof, carbon bonnet, splitter, springs/sway bars etc.. Plugs are easy to gap. They shouldn't be a factor in the decision.
