• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Is anyone running the Unichip plug and play Tune ?

I explored all options and went with the JB4 as it has more features, power and continuous development with software updates.

The HPF is a flash tune to the cars computer so it’s not like the JB4 or Unichip which is a plug and play tuner and is removable whith no trace that it was ever installed. A flash tune leaves a record on the cars computer which may void your warranty.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the input. I already understand the differences but simply plugging in a JB4 without a dyno seems a little weird to me. That's why I've considered hpf and why I'm leaning more towards a unichip.

I just wanted some real user feedback on either and what problems (if any) they faced with the intercept plug ins.

Where's the best place to source a jb4 in Australia anyway?

In the straightline competitions in Korea
Unichip is faster than Lap3 and JB4 is faster than Unichip
so JB4 > UNI > LAP3 > the rest

Best place to buy is from the forum shop.
It helps out .

The cars are pretty much all the same your not really getting much more out of it by a dyno tune unless the car is heavily modified, even unichip has its base maps with their plug and play your not getting a custom tune to suit your car as such. Plus it’s over twice the price.

I purchased mine direct but as Terra mentioned to buy it from the forum shop as it helps support this site

Ok, thanks everyone. Sounds like it'll be a JB4 then..

I was also liking the 5 adjustable maps on the Unichip. One for the missus so she doesn't kill herself. One for eco. And one for me

I'll do some more research tonight but can you do that with a JB4?

Cheers guys,

HA! How do you change maps? Through their app on your phone? Can you do it without a phone?

Also what are the fuel wires for? Do you need to get them too when buying a JB4 to get the most out of it?

Sorry for all the dumb questions. Thanks again for your help.

I change maps through the phone wirelessly you need to purchase the Bluetooth adapter for this. Or you can use the cable and plug it into a laptop or tablet.

Yes you want the fuel wires as you can lean out the fuel as they run rich and gain extra power.

Have a read up on the features it has full data logging capabilities and safe guard protections for the car.

I ran a 4.4sec 0-100 the other week but I’m hoping to get down to a 4.0 flat in the next few weeks by limiting the additional boost per 1st and 2nd gears

It’s all good

Cheers

I'm SOLD!

Also.. How do mods later down the track go with the JB4?? Like a cold intake and cat back.. which I'll probably do when the missus isn't looking!

They work well and will compliment the JB4, I know one of the guys on here shaved his 4.4 0-100 time to 4.2 with a cold air intake running map 2 or 23 from memory

Where about's are you in Melbourne ?

Im in Donvale Eastern suburbs

Anyone having issues with coil packs or spark plugs cracking using JB4?? I haven't looked up how hard it is to get the plugs out to regap but I'm sure I'll manage (replaced an intake manifold on an MK6 GTI the other day.. can't be harder than that!).

If you are using map2 or above, you must regap your plugs or change them.

The one under the manifold is the worst but if you have the tools like swivel adapter its just a little fiddly......

Any reason this thread shouldn't be in the regular tuning forum? Would it not benefit the Stinger community worldwide?

There's a banner at the top of every page "down here" asking that this forum be used for regional discussion - is this a ANZ-only solution?

As this was only being used locally I thought it was more appropriate at the time to keep it in this part of the forum.

I'm not sure if anyone out of Australia is using this plug and play, but you can move to where either you feel most appropriate

As for the ("this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger.) Sal moved this over to this forum location for me so maybe you can take that up with him, I'm not sure that I would call it technical as I was only after feedback as the title suggests.

Hi D-C & Terra,

Have you guys got any tips for trying to get the OBD cable through the firewall? I want to attempt this but a little worried I might be able to get the grommet back in place. Did you just pull it back into the cabin, run the cable through and then push it back in place?

I was a bit apprehensive myself but it was easier than I thought it would be, i just popped one side with the screwdriver handle and taped the chord onto a coat hanger wire I had cut down. Make sure you tape the sharp end so you don’t scratch anything while pushing through. The grommet sort of just covers the cord and seals the hole.

TY.. I'll see what he thinks. I just spotted it "down here" and wondered if it would be better off in the tuning forum.
