Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

Yeah, I had to google “snow’ to see what they were talking about.

:p Love it, smart Alec! Dude, you really don't know what you're missing! Tooling around in an AWD Stinger GT in 4 inches of wet snow - in poor visibility. It brings 'driving excitement' to a whole new level! I feel sorry for you in all that sunny dry weather. Oh, don't forget the sunscreen!

You missed part of my quote - the emoji. :p I respectfully admire your willingness and commitment to sit down and read the entire user's manual. And thank you for the link. It's also available via UVO. I absolutely reference the manual as-needed for such things as lug-nut torque or engine oil capacity. However, probably like most owners, I don't have the time, the need, or the inclination to read the whole thing.
I'd say ''need'' an ''inclination'' are the 2 biggies for me......I have plenty of time. But I have it all the same.

Here's a tidbit rom Edmunds long term update. This is the first I'm hearing of this feature (mine doesn't do it):

"Here's a little detail that speaks to Kia's effort on making the Stinger upscale: The rings surrounding the climate control temperature knobs light up. Turn up the temperature on one of the knobs (the system is dual-zone, so there are two of them), and its ring briefly glows red. Turn it down, and it glows blue. It's not a necessary thing by any means, but I think it's pretty neat."

Hmm haven’t noticed that but haven’t looked either. V cool if it does. Heading off to a friends 50th in a few minutes so will be able to check it very soon.

Nope. Mine doesn’t light up.
Maybe it only shows up in the dark?

I haven't heard of this until now, so I don't know if mine does or not. The heads up is from the US, you're in Oz, so ...

(edit: nope. I have no lit up red/blue rings either. Maybe it's a MY19 thing?)

I'm not trying to be combative, but you posted about new tech that you were admittedly unfamiliar with, and didn't know how it would react in seasonal driving conditions. I didn't read the manual cover-to-cover, but I did go through each chapter looking for key features and tech on the vehicle, particularly the ones I had never used before.

sound thinking......did the same thing to my bike of 2 weeks ownership.....then I started modding! :P

Download the PDF from Kia and read when/where convenient, on your computer or phone.

FWIW, the 2019 US manual is still not available online.

def didn't read all 50 pages so not sure if it was posted... .
BUG.... if you're on the home screen (displays radio and map) the steering wheel control to move between presets is flipped. So up is down on the list etc.

Not a bug, just how Kia's infotainment system is designed. From page 5 of this thread...

Weird discovery...but our Sedona is the same way.
When changing the preset radio stations, using the steering wheel controls, if you press down it goes down when set on radio display. But in “home” screen, the down control does the opposite and the stations change going up.

The behavior is essentially that when you cannot see the station list, the steering wheel button direction matches the preset number (up moves it to a higher preset number; down moves it to a lower number). When you have the presets visible, the button direction matches the visual orientation, which is reversed.

Yeah.. same in my Sorento and other cars - when there's any kind of list displayed (like music tracks), the "up" button moves the selection to the item above, which is actually "back", but when nothing is displayed, the "up" button skips to the NEXT track.

What is the little light that shines down 24/7 in front of the sunglasses storage?

Also, whenever the "Smart" ventilation turns on it immediately fogs up my front windshield. Seems pretty smart.

It's an ambient light....gives just enough light in the cabin to see the surroundings.

Mine does this too, I don't use the auto feature fo this reason........mostly happens with humidity.....we'll see this winter, so far it hasn't done it recently with the cold weather.

I noticed when you toggle the left side of the steering wheel switch,(nearest the horn),as you scroll the features in the instrument cluster. There is a small indicator with 5 dots lined up vertically, highlighted by a brighter dot , depending on the selection. For instance I keep it on speed display, that is highlighted 2nd from the bottom.
But the selection is viewed only when you toggle!! It goes away after a few seconds.......

Yeah, well, I get to announce the newest discovery as a no brainer to anyone (probably) who has had a NAV/media screen function (this is my first). When Map is up, and you touch the screen and wake up the red circle with the red dot in the center, the red dot over a road lists the name of the road at the top of the screen. Very handy (now that I have completed no less than c. 5K + miles of road trips this year in this car :P).

Found out that if you have your iPhone connected to Bluetooth, but not via cable... and press and hold the voice button on the steering wheel, it bypasses the Kia voice command prompt and instead prompts Siri.

So I went t a venue, last night...where I had to lock my firearm in the vehicle, The key only goes in maybe an inch.....so I start thinking whats the rest of the key cut for? I get to the drivers door, there is a rectangle cutout under the handle , but the key doesn't seem to fit/.....so where does the ''whole'' key go?!....I haven't a clue.

The mechanical key is for locking/unlocking the glove box and the front doors. Did you pry the cover off? I think the "cutout" you mention is where you use the key or a screwdriver to pry the cover off (I've never done this). With the cover off, the mechanical key goes in the door lock. Turning it toward the front unlocks the door; turning it toward the rear locks the door. (this is on page 4 | 16 in the manual).

just another hoop to go thru....I get it. Not complaining, not at all......
