Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

I mean, they called the drive mode ECO. So, hello, it should be the most economical drive mode under most conditions.

Yes, I agree, but it could be a function of speed or something else. It's ONE report. We need more testing and reports from many different drivers. My car is on order but it's several weeks out, still. :=(

Frankly, I would think at steady state (cruise on the interstate) that there's little that could be done other than alter the air/fuel mix. I'm sure the Eco mode changes throttle tip-in rate and gearing. That would be great for "around town" gas mileage. I can easily see Eco getting the same highway fuel mileage as Comfort. But less is a bit of a quandary.

The dynamic bending lights are way more active and pronounced than in other Kia models I've driven with them (optima and sorento). They really turn when going around corners. There is a weird notch in the middle of the light pattern though.
Lol, my 2017 Optima with the dynamic LED lights has the same notch. Must be a Kia thing.

Correction ... TWO notches.

Are the dynamic turning headlights on the GT model, too? Or just GT2? I have Drive Wise so I know it has the auto-dim brights.

Dynamic turning low beams are only on the GT2, not part of the DriveWise package. Autodim brights are either standard, or part of DriveWise, not sure.

If you lay your rear seats down, the seatbelts WILL leave marks on the face of the seats. No matter how well you tuck them down. I learned this the hard way recently. I'll use something to pad that area in the future.

I found that the two vertical belt receivers fold down slightly, and seem to eliminate, or at least minimize, the impressions on the leather. The center seat has a two-piece clip; the larger one actually has a slot to tuck into, under the seat cover, and the smaller one can either dangle in the seat recess, or be pushed back into the slot it's poked through (although, that might limit the other receiver from tilting back up).

(L) receivers up/out ---> (R) receivers tucked in/under

I like the auto highbeam. I guess i should have read the manual but i saw it being discussed some where are figured it out. pretty cool feature.

The gas fill door froze shut. I got out and was like, “so, what do I do now?” Luckily on the 20th try it popped open. There was some ice in there.

I’m also still irritated that CarPlay is by cable only. I’m constantly forgetting my phone in the car
When I do plug in my phone I make make it a practice to also leave my key fob inside the car. When leaving the car, the doors will not lock until I retrieve the key fob (along with the phone).

That's brave. The first time the battery in your fob is a little too weak to answer when the car checks to see if it is in the car, is going to be a big regret..

So I find that yes, marks do appear when you fold seats down, but it doesn’t last. A gentle rub and or a bit of time and you’re all good again. Relax peeeps.

But yes, some good tips on getting belts n buckles out of the way...

Running the Nappa version....

According to the manual, the car will alert you when the battery is getting low so you don't get caught with a dead key fob.

I’ve always found that the headlights on my 2015 Optima have a weird notch in the beam patterns as well. This combined with the merge between the right and left headlights leaves a weird dark area almost directly in my center of view. I’ve always found it kinda strange but after adjusting the level of the headlights a little I found it to be less bothersome. My 2013 Optima had no such issue. Annoying but tolerable.

Weird discovery...but our Sedona is the same way.

When changing the preset radio stations, using the steering wheel controls, if you press down it goes down when set on radio display. But in “home” screen, the down control does the opposite and the stations change going up. A bit annoying but whatever. The action should be the same for both radio screen and home screen.

When in SPORT mode the MPH numbers lean to the side some vs all the other modes where they are all the same, straight up and down.

I have ran into when you have the heated seats on 3 that after a certain time it drops to 2 automatically.

Ahh, you beat me to it! I just realized this behavior this week myself. I was wondering why the radio stations weren't changing they way I was expecting, until I took a minute to look at the behavior. I agree, it was annoying at first, but it's easy enough for me to remember. The behavior is essentially that when you cannot see the station list, the steering wheel button direction matches the preset number (up moves it to a higher preset number; down moves it to a lower number). When you have the presets visible, the button direction matches the visual orientation, which is reversed.

A a couple of not-so-good discoveries on the adaptive cruise control (ACC).

1. Driving in the faster lane, it sometimes picks up cars in the right lane and momentarily slows down, then re-accelerates to my set speed. No car is ahead in my lane. Annoying since the brake lights go on being a distraction and annoyance also to drivers behind. Interestingly, I also had this "characteristic" and reaction with my IS and RX.

2. The radar is very sensitive to minimal road dirt, significantly more so than the system in Lexus. This is what it took this one time with the RX to disengage the radar on it vs on the Stinger!! :D

I would expect that "error" on a slight bending curve like that. Not sure it's a "fault" because the car ahead is actually in "front" of you. Not sure there is a solution since your IS does the same thing.

I can't say it has happened on a bend - it happens on a straight line. I can't pinpoint the criteria yet since it seems to happen under all weather conditions, lighting, and vehicles, though it seems to occur more commonly with 18 wheeler trucks probably due to the larger surface for the waves to bounce back and the radar to pick up on. This common denominator for me so far is that oddly, this is the same behavior with Lexus.

OK, @corradoMR2, I was just going by the last screen shot you posted above which is a very gradual curve left.
