Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

Cool thing: I just realised that the pic of the Stinger in my dash (when starting the car) is of an EU spec GT-Line with the actual set of wheels that I have and not of a GT which has different wheels. Every promotions picture of the Stinger was featuring the GT so I assumed the infotainment would show the same.
I really like this attention to detail!

My USA GT2 also shows this image, so while its fantastic for you, I kind of wish the image was of a GT haha

Ok, there goes the attention to detail! :D

Some clear coat scratches that I just noticed smh in the sun on the passenger side door and rear door. Looks like whoever had this car before me took a damn coat hanger to the clear coat paint and went to work on it smh. Is this a body shop job or can I get this done on my own?

Wow, previous owner just didn't seem to care much about paint protection.

Try getting it buffed, professionally imo. Unless youre good at it, give it a shot.

I would work on that with a fair degree of hope. From the pics it appears to all be clear coat only. Use a rubbing compound by hand first: rub across the scratches, never parallel to them: once the scratches are knocked back then you use polishing compound by hand and finish up with wax (or ceramic if that is your go-to for protection and gloss).

(edit: wet/dry sandpaper, 2000 grit or higher, with LOTS of water, LIGHTLY, again across the scratches, is a bit scary since you can easily overdo this and sand off the clear coat, and even through the paint: but for deep clear coat scratches and surface paint scratches, that is the only way to get rid of them: in that case, seriously consider getting a pro detailer to hit the deepest scratches: if you tackle this with the rubbing and polishing compounds first, you'll know if you have really deep scratches that can only be taken out with wet sandpaper or a buffer)

I’ll see what my body shop can do and get it inspected there. Also try and YouTube some vids on the proper way to do clean that up. Shit sucks smh

I like your approach @MerlintheMad . I’ll definitely give this a try (your instructions) and YouTube some vids as well and see what I can do on my own and then go from there.

Id do what Merlin suggested first prior to the wet sanding. If that fails, Id go pro.

Becareful with paint body shops though, theyll charge an arm and leg for stuff like this. Get good quotes. I would suggest finding someone off fb marketplace who has a good rep in pro detailing and give that a go.

The rubbing compound, polishing compound and wax . I’ll give that a try. Simple and should give a good idea of what I’m working with. The sandpaper I might mess up the scratches even more. And I’ll ask around on fb in the different Kia groups about solutions as well. Thanks guys .

Yikes! In Australia we have mobile paint and dent repair businesses who come to your home/office who could do this repair at a reasonable price in a couple of hours. I'm sure you Yankees have the same kind of businesses.

I was always under the impression that the GT2 Stinger would force up shifts when you hit red line, regardless of what mode you were in and regardless of traction/stability control status.

I was pleasantly surprised when I tested this yesterday and found that the car will hold the current gear and bounce off redline (i.e. it won't up shift) under these conditions:

Sport Mode
Traction and Stability Control completely off (i.e. hold the button for 5+ second until you hear the beep)

I swear that in the past people reported that the GT2 model would always force up shifts and there was nothing you could do to stop it. So this discovery was news to me. I may be auto crossing the car this summer for fun, so I was curious to test this myself.

It will upshift if you bounce off redline for more than 5 seconds I believe? something like that.

Ah ok will definitely test that out. I had give it like 3 seconds at most yesterday.

It might not be worth trying that out, unnecessary wear on the motor after all.

Only had the Stinger for just over four years: never had a car with buttons on the steering wheel before. Yesterday, I discovered that the volume + - button is also a pause button (USB media: don't know what it does with radio) if you push it in: I finally noticed the little speaker icon between the + and -, and it has a diagonal (cancel) line through it.
