Intake Comparison

I can honestly say that the AEM intake installed yesterday 'feel' more responsive and pulls faster to redline. Been at this stuff for 25 years and can say the intakes on this car made an appreciable difference in how the car drives as opposed to any other turbo or NA car I've added an intake to. Plus, seriously, the stock BOV sound scares people on the street and the turbo spool sounds like a jet.

Is there a way to make the BOV sound less "scary"?

I think his description of "scary" is more for effect and just making a point that its a noticeable difference in sound. However, if you really dont enjoy or want the blowoff sound then you need a sealed or more covered intake. One like Stillen or Jonny Tig that has a heat shield on top of the filter should be quieter.

You can control it a bit with your foot if you know when to let off or how hard/fast to let off. With a little practice I have been able to control it with the throttle. The slower you let off the throttle the less aggressive or "scary" the BOV will sound. :)

DIY intake knocked 2 tenths off my 0 to 60....cost 70 bucks.....looks better than most 400 dollar intake
fitment...perfect....install time 1 hr maybe less :) Wash

What filter and piping did you use

Since i have a 2.0T I'll have to check out other piping. Other than that, I'll be getting into this for sure. Thanks washguy

I just picked up my filter and elbow today, gonna install tomorrow. Can't wait to hear how she sounds!

Space you will have several options on which way you point the filters...I myself opted to point em right there behind the fresh air intakes.....Wash

Nobody ever said that higher was better...
I was just saying that the temperature of the air outside of the intake may be much less of a concern with WMI because lowering it will not have a dramatical impact on IATs. However air flow restrictions will remain a limiting factor. Thus with WMI a good air flow seems to be a higher priority than a good heat shield. (in many designs there is a bit of a tradeoff between the two).

Only if the original intake was a flow restriction to start with.

As an example - cooling air from 35ºC to 25ºC results in an approximately 3% increase in density - meaning you can burn 3% more fuel and get 3% more power.

Flow and temperature should be considered together - if you can increase flow AND reduce temps, you'd be crazy not to do both.

So I took my 2.0 OEM airbox off and there is very little room for any kind of tubing to go with the Spectre filter I got (8136). The 3" 90 tube that 3.3 users have used definitely won't fit as the OEM intake tubing is 3.5". So I'm gonna have to get a shorter 3.5" tube at a different angle and/or get a shorter filter.

In lieu of that, I may do what this guy did (2.0 Intake) and attach the filter straight to the OEM tube for now. I have a heat shield to fit the filter coming in from Amazon, so I may try that temporarily and see how I like it.

Where does the AEM fall on this list. I need to decide which intake to get but just can't seem to make up my mind.

I have AEM conical filters on Spectre elbows. "AEM intake?" lol
