Hydrolic Electronic Control Unit Recall

The recall is for 2019 3.3s. Nothing for newer models yet.

Recalls are a common occurrence these days and are good things. It’s better for the consumer for a manufacturer to identify and correct a defect than to try and avoid one. I wouldn’t let a recall deter you from buying one.
Okay thanks for the advice.

Definitely agree consider this recall a minor deal.

Had mine done today. Said 1.5 hours they were a bit busy so took over 2 hrs. Met Bryan from Stinger Alliance who was also there getting the same.

I am considering getting a Stinger GT1 , but just saw this post. Does anyone know if this issue is present in the 2021 models? It is my understanding that the 2021 models are the same as the 2020 models. How does this issue compare to other car recalls? This may be a show stopper for me.
If you're able, wait for the 2022 model release. Kia is including an updated technology package including digital dials and larger media screen etc...

Kia dealers are getting shipped replacement HECUs to have on hand and repairs are being given priority in the service department.
This has not been my experience. Was scheduled to have this recall performed this past Monday only for the dealership to inform me that the part was not available for the repair. I was not too happy to find that out after I was there and they had already taken the car into the service area. The Service Mgr claimed that Kia USA does not allow them to stock these parts for the recall repair, which I found hard to believe. What irked me more was they knew I was scheduled for that repair and failed to inform me prior to wasting a trip. Called Kia USA back to inform them I was not pleased how this was handled, but not sure if that changed anything!! Kia just can't seem to get out of its own way sometimes!

you would think they could stock a couple of wires and fuses. it's like $5 worth of stuff. having a few kits on hand wouldn't hurt. My dealer in NC did have to order the kit, but had it within 2 days, prior to my scheduled visit...

Which dealership? I went to Union County Kia. I have not been impressed by them so far with regards to customer service. They were supposed to call me when the part is in stock to reschedule.

I had the parts from kiaparts in 3 days.

Had mine completed and a day later I got a check engine light and the car diagnostic listed a engine control system error. Went to Advanced Auto and hooked up the scanner and it gave me an error code P0461 Fuel Level Sensor. Going in Monday again. Dealer service said they have to run their own scan. Asked if it’s ok to drive and they said as long as there isn’t odd behavior car should be fine. They weren’t much help over the phone even after I told them what error code I got. They sounded a bit confused when I told them I hooked up an obd scanner.

Pinehurst Kia, Southern Pines, NC. all went smooth. Also, another member was there two days later and no issues...

Just contacted my dealer to schedule. They tell me they have only started on one so far and that car is currently "down" due to problems with the fix. They are waiting on KIA corporate for more information and advised that I should call back in a week to see if they have received an answer or further direction from KIA. At least they let me know before I wasted hours of my time. But it is concerning that the dealers don't even know what is going on...

They have to be ordered with a Vin attached so they order as needed

My local dealership is beyond incompetent. I had to go in for an appointment (leave my car there because I had to get to work). Just for them to tell me they need to order a part! Not sure why they needed to inspect it first when the recall is pretty clear a part would need to be ordered.

At least I got an oil change out of it.

So they checked the fuel pump and now it’s the fuel level sensor after 5800 miles. Exactly what the obd from advanced auto said. They will have my car until Friday waiting on the part. Good lord. Cant wait to see how many people bang the sides getting in and out of adjacent vehicles.

Good luck! You have only 5800 miles on it?

Yes it’s a DD, but with covid limited driving. It’s a 2019 I purchased new in July 2020 at a great price. Once covid breaks I will be racking up mileage as I do northeast regional sales/consulting.

I might have missed something; but why do you have to leave your car sitting at the service center while waiting for a sensor? The only way I'd leave mine is if it is inoperable, or, operating it risked damage of some sort.
