I guess if you don't read the thread you could be confused to think this is about the top speed of 165 ish, it's not if you don't read the thread and think it's about breaking the speed limits and Laws its not. just for the record its about this not being disclosed at the point of sale it was not on the web builder when most of us purchased our cars we did not read evey page on every brochure to find the 2 places it was mentioned at the time, the dealers didnt apparently kbow, we paid the same as you and got less, smaller wheels and crap tires for the same prices and a governed top speed. the point again is we didnt get what we paid for...

That is primarily a matter of dealer ignorance. Don't blame Kia. That information is on their web site and in their brochures -- was before the latest update when I began researching the car. Many dealers order the car without reading the @#!$ details. Many early cars were sold in northern markets (Canada) where AWD seemed to all but demand AW tires. There are many sales managers who have no clue what they are selling, and the turnover in car salesmen results in many of them fresh off the streets having sold pencils or washing machines for a living before trying cars. So if you have a beef about the car and the tires and the speed limiter, go back to your dealer and complain, or blame yourself for failing to read the details in the literature. The AW tires are a no-cost option and must be chosen by the dealer, otherwise you get the 19" wheels and tires. So, with all due respect, both you and the dealer failed to pay attention. The solution is to spec the car out yourself and order exactly what you want after reading the literature and spec sheet. Sorry....but it's not Kia's fault. They didn't order the car, they just built what the dealer asked for.

Are we talking about the 18" wheels from the 2.0T being put on a GT, or a smaller version of the normal GT wheel?

Smaller GT wheel design. Looks identical, other than diameter is slightly compressed, and the front/rear sizes match, unlike the staggered 19s.

18" all weather tires are a no-cost option that has to be requested on each order. They are not standard but they are available if ordered.

Sorry, but I do blame Kia. Not wholly, but mostly. Kia was fully aware of the issue; dealers and customers not so much. True, dealers may not read all the details on what they order. Do you read and comprehend all the EULAs that you click "Agree" on? And how many customers read the manual before purchasing a car? Kia bears primary responsibility for this and should have been up-front about this from the beginning.

But you mean Kia USA , not corporate right ? , seems those guys had their pencil sharpener stolen .

Has anyone considered the impact of the speed limiter on resale value?
Welcome aboard, @Quitplayn! Thank you for signing up. You do bring up an excellent point and I do believe it's been mentioned before - but not discussed more than that. Yes, it can definitely be an issue for the second buyer. If there are two identical models but one has the higher speed capability - people will buy the one that can go faster. Even if they're never going to go that fast.

Years from now it may pay to still have the window sticker showing yours had the 19s. How else could you tell if someone changes the tires? Besides, you know, driving really fast to check.

The window sticker or the tire specs on the driver's door jamb.

The driver's door frame sticker lists which OEM tire sizes came with it from the factory.

I have an AWD GT2 with the 18 inch all-weather package. I knew about the speed limiter before purchasing because I did an unnatural amount of research on it. I certainly wanted the 19 inch wheels, for the better looks and for the lack of limiter. Unfortunately, there was no ceramic grey GT2 with 19s anywhere in Colorado or on its way to Colorado. When it came down to it, I realized that if I were going to go over 140, I probably shouldn't be driving anymore anyway.

I just noticed the US build tool now includes a disclaimer for the All-Season Tire package that reads as follow:
  • Stinger GTs that are factory-equipped with 18-inch wheels are limited to 130 mph top speed (e.g., installation of 19-inch wheels will not increase the top speed)."
And if you read the disclaimers on both the 18" Wheels and the All Season tires, it states:
  • GT, GT1 and GT2 requires AWD and Kia Drive Wise Package.
  • Stinger GTs that are factory-equipped with 18-inch wheels are limited to 130 mph top speed (e.g., installation of 19-inch wheels will not increase the top speed).

yep we noticed that a couple of weeks ago we discussed it in this thread already it was put up after we started our quest to get ours changed as it was not common knowledge when the car came out

Good for you for doing your homework. Do the 18s look that much different, I think the total diameter of the tire is pretty close to the 19s because I would imagine they have a taller side wall and not a low profile like the 19s I wouldn’t think it would make that much difference in The looks . Besides you could rotate them I get a lot more life out of them. Most of our driving is on the highway the 19s especially the rare ones have a lot of meat on them I don’t plan on drifting or doing any burnouts so I do believe they will last for a while . Congratulations now just get out there and drive it.

My guess is that the circumference is essentially the same, otherwise they would have to recalibrate the speedometer, fuel mileage estimate, etc.

I haven't seen 19s in person, so I can't really say what looks better. Across the board, I usually find larger wheels more attractive but I dont think anyone would see my 18s and think they are too small. No complaints here.

Now I am curious if the governor is 130 like the Kia website states, or 140 like some others here have mentioned.

Two people on the first page of this thread claim to have tested it up to 140, when the speed limiter kicked in. I don't think 130 vs 140 really matters to regular drivers, and anyone tracking their car would probably run on tune on it for more custom control anyway.
