FAQ: Vibration under braking: warped rotors? NO!

Whether the new rotors are made of a different material which isn't prone to build up of pad material, or the original rotors were Warped as the master tech said, I don't know.

What I do know is this, there is absolutely no valid reason to spend money on after market pads or rotors to accommodate normal diving conditions.

Just because the problem hasn't recurred with the new rotors doesn't mean the problem was the rotors. It just means you haven't driven the car hard enough since then to cause pad deposits to transfer to the new rotors.

Drive down a mountain, dragging your brakes the whole way, and then apply them firmly while stopped at the bottom, and I guarantee the issue will recur.

BTW, all rotors, except $10,000+ carbon-ceramic ones on exotic cars, are made of carbon steel. There is no coating of other material -- it would just wear off.

The reason I am suggesting to check the part numbers on your front rotors is that the Brembo (j5500) and non-bembo (j5000) are similar. When my rotors were replaced, the tech said the part numbers on the originals were not clear. He said it was possible the non-brembo rotors were installed on my car during the manufacturing process.

Okay, first of all, there is no "J5000" part number. The part number for the non-Brembo rotors are 58110J5010. The ones for the Brembo rotors are 58110J5500BCR (old) and 58110J5510BCR (new).

Secondly, the "J5010" rotors are the ones from the base 2.0T Stingers with 17" wheels. They literally would not fit on a GT with Brembo calipers. They're too small, by a lot.

Sorry, your explanation doesn't hold up.

In other news, someone on one of the Facebook groups has discovered the Euro pad part numbers:

J5H90-AKA55 Front
J5H90-AKA56 Rear

I am planning to contact Kia Premium Support to see if I can get these pads free of charge.

The one off-putting thing about all this brakes and pads upgrade talk for me is the related dust, the corrosive environment around (especially) the front wheels and rotors. I want to know that my car has the potential to let me be a "hooligan" (even if I never am), i.e. tires, brakes and suspension mods all make her track worthy: and yet I want to avoid the brake dust.

If I drive with upgraded, dusty brake pads, will they put out dust if I use the brakes the same way I am now? To recap: at 16,555 miles (yesterday) my brakes are still almost "like new". If I had been on track worthy pads the whole time, braking like I do (like @Ozstung does :D), what kind of brake dust issues would I have been seeing, compared to the OE pads?

Way more dust, way more noise. It's the tradeoff for better braking performance and better heat tolerance.

These are the same part numbers quoted to me by my service/parts department. But, whatever. Doesn't much matter.

Okay, so that part number exists.

Here's another link:

51712J5000 - Genuine Kia DISC-FRONT WHEEL BRAKE

Fitment shows 2.0T only. The fact remains that these rotors do not fit the Brembo calipers on the GT. They are the wrong size.

There is literally no way these could have been installed on your car if it's a GT.

I hate to be argumentative, but you're BOTH right (somehow)

The parts are listed for both the 2.0 and the 3.3, however the J5000 is non-Brembo only. Not sure why you'd want to do that, but you can.

Yeah, it's listed improperly on that site. It also says it fits the (non-existent) Atlantica. Check other sites.

And yes, regardless of what the fitment notes SAY, there are no GTs without Brembo brakes, at least in the US. And the rotor sizes are different between Brembos and the stock 2.0T brakes.

Again, I merely passed on what the tech said. It doesn't really matter. If he was wrong, he was wrong. Just hope you don't get him...

What are good after market brake pads for a GT 3.3 RWD. Where can I get them from.

Khartunerz never get back to us in Australia, contacted Nick on 5 separate occasions for various products said he would follow up with a quote and you never hear pack. Prompted him several times and he made promises he never delivered.

Very poor customer service, I would look at another supplier for us based in Australia.

Both Stoptech and Centric have the stinger listed on their site now so if there are dealers in Australia they should be able to order them. Up until recently they were not listed on their sites.

I'm taking mine in for this very issue tomorrow. It is covered up to 1 year or 12000 miles. I'm at 10,400 miles. Whew!

Agreed I sent an email enquiry to them as well on sequential reflectors a month ago & no response.

Stinger GT its not just me then haha, asked 4 times for a shipping estimate on the agency intakes amongst other products, said he would get straight back to me and nothing. Really poor.

I ended up going with the K&N intakes from another supplier.

Well with poor customer service most people will move onto other suppliers/alternatives

What brake problem? I have not had any brake problems... Is it only me?
The "warped rotors" issue. I take my Stinger back in next week when the new upgraded part number rotors arrive. I'm not sure what the issue actually is - but since I'm almost at the 12K mark I'm getting it fixed. Mine has been shaking the steering wheel under braking for the last 2 months. I thought my son had warped the rotors by hot dogging, but he said he hasn't.

No issues here after 18,000 miles. Purchased December 2017.
