EK1Pro Tune - Sixth Element

well for one you hit 1.7 bar in one of the pulls which is 25 psi (not good) and you also have less than 6 deg of ign timing which is WAY less than stock.... do me a favor... flash back to stock and do a pull starting in 2nd gear at 25 mph floor it and shift at 5900 rpm every gear till you hit 4th gear and send the log here
I just got back from for a run with the stage 1 tune, see attached. I will try get out in the morning and do a run as you have suggested and post the log on the stock ECU.

The stage 1 felt fine with none of the issues the stage 2 has, The car drove fine and WOT felt good. Something is very wrong with the stage 2 tune and seems to getting worse with each revision. I am honestly a little nervous to try another revision of the stage 2 tune.

From what i see on datazap mobile(which isnt much) still looks like its running lower than stock ignition timing. Which if you dont know ign timing and boost = cylinder pressure.. the more ign timing your run the faster you are… stock runs at about 15 degrees and your lower than that which is most likely whats making you so slow!

If i were you i would ask for “19 psi flat boost with 17 degrees of ignition timing and 6 degrees of shift timing”. .. and tell him your running e40 to e50 fuel… if you decide to ask for that

Cheers I will try and ask for that and see what he comes back with.

Ryan is asking me to do more runs on that stage 2 1.03 Tune? Now I am confused, and definitely a little worried about loading that tune back on and doing more runs.

On that tune as you pointed out it’s hitting 1.7 bar boost (25psi), timing is low (6deg) and over 5k rpm the car loses all power and backfires under WOT. Driving with the tune feels really bad in the car, Power is all over the place and the engine feels rough.

The stage 1 tune feels fine and drives good even though it’s not perfect.

I think I may have to cut my loses and give up on the Sxth tune. I am honestly worried about running that stage 2 tune again under those conditions.

I have ordered the BMS intercooler, BMS CPI and fuel it flex fuel monitor kit, JB4 with fuel and EWG wires. A new gas station opened up near by so now have easy access to E85. Think I will flash back to stock and try again with a BEF and JB4 once it arrives and I have it installed.

Anyone recommend any study platforms where I can learn the basics of reading logs to get a better understanding of what I am looking at.

@SneakerB I will get a log on the stock ECU file to see if there is something else wrong with my car.

Just flat out tell him you dont feel comfortable/safe running 1.03 again… tell him boost hit 1.7 bar at one point and ign timing is crashing..and when you say backfires are you talking about misfiring or like pops and burbles when letting off the throttle?

I will say the jb4 and cpi was a really smart purchase… absolute best logging device and there easy to read!! Ek1 logs are terrible imo

It sounds like the pops and burbles when letting off the throttle though I am not off the throttle I am still WOT. I start a run WOT, the engine gets to around 5K rpm loses power and makes the pops and bangs sound until it changes gear, when it changes gear power comes back normal and the pops sound disappears until the engine gets back up to around the 5k rpm again then loses power and has the pops again.

Only does this on the Stage 2 tune, I do not have this issue with the Stage 1 tune or stock.

Looking forward to the JB4 and CPI

What are your plugs gapped at could be spark blowout due to the higher boost on the stage 2

I did not gap them, maybe this is the problem. I left them as I thought by Nathan’s post they just leave them at the factory setting. See pic attached where Nathan says he leaves them at the factory m45il gap. I can pull them tonight and gap them. What gap do you recommend?

If your using hks yes its recommended to start at stock hks gap but if your experienceing spark blowout your have to gap down… i cant say that your experiencing blow out forsure without driving the car myself. I had blow out with stock gap on hks and i know a few other people who have aswell… you could wait for a revision and if it still does it on the revision you could try it or you could pull them and knock the gap down to .026- or even .024 factory is .028

Does it feel like a bunch of fast stutters at high rpm?

No it feels just like the pops and burbles I have when I back off. When it pops at WOT I can feel it through the car and the power loss with each pop. My first run I thought may have backed off the power as it was the same sound as the pops and burbles. The next couple of runs confirmed I was WOT and above 5k RPM.

I will pull them tonight and check the gaps. May as well drop them down for the JB4 and BEF?

If its not spark blowout no need to regap them… bef dosent need to be gapped as it adjusts spark dwell

just to give you a comparison here is my car on stage 2

I was having issue with the stage 2 as well. car would spike on boost, so i went and switched back to JB4 map3 and the BEF

Thanks for the info, did you post the comparison? If you can add it that would be great

Ryan has created another revision (1.04) of the stage 2 and said he has lowered boost and closed the ticket. I am yet to test it.

Cheers, Another log on revision 1.04 attached, the car felt much better, boost felt good and could not feel any issues though I am still seeing the low timing. I have asked Ryan for an explanation as to what this means from a EK1 Sxth context. I will turn on the 6 knock learning values later and do another log.

Thank you for posting that, after looking at that log you supplied I cant wait till I get my JB4 next week, so much information on one log it's great.
