3.3TT DIY intakes w/Heat shielding drop about 0.2sec off 0-60

double

Woot Woot Got 2 black spectre 90's today....filters arriving Tuesday......cant wait ! :)
the more I look, the more it seems like all the meth stuff like pump and tank will fit on passenger side fenderwell where the intake box was...or just the pump and use the windshield washer tank for the 50/50 meth...and run to pump on fender...or trim the intake box for the 90 elbow and put the pump inside ...you would mount pump on wood or alum. base and put into intake box....that would hold down temps for the pumphead so it wouldn't lose prime due to high heat ? I wonder if you can find the proper electrical connections in the front of the car ? ....Wash

Any noticeable performance changes?

It feels faster but I can't rule out placebo. I'm stock otherwise and don't have any benchmarks so can't say for sure. At this point, I'm just waiting to see a squirrel or bird get sucked into the grille :D

Any noticeable performance changes?
Absolutely! As the title states many people dropped about 0.2 seconds off their 0-60 & 1/4m times adding high flow intakes.:D

Just remember its much harder to “feel” top end HP, then low RPM TQ so you may not “feel” a noticeable change in power, but its undoubtedly there. What you will notice is that the engine simply doesn't fall off as bad after 5k RPM, and just pulls harder up to the redline. Hope this helps and happy tuning!

thanks Stungblue for your hardwork on the intake with these conical filters. This is the best 70 bills ive spent on the Stinger. did the install today and man oh man this mod really does work .Ran a 4.84 yesterday map2 full tank of gas with a DA of 2300....after install today ran a 4.67 with about same DA on map2....there is no doubt that the intake works awesome...heck I even break the tires loose running over 30mph...Im liking this intake setup...Oh I took some of that bad azz double sided emblem tape and stuck the passenger side 90 degree elbow to the underside of the brace....drivers side front of filter to airduct...it only takes a one inch piece to hold the filters in place....no bracing needed .....Wash20190514_194207.webp

You’re very welcome and great to see another Stinger confirm about 0.2sec improvement with intakes! And I agree, 20-30whp for only ~$100 is by far the best bang for the buck mod for our Stingers!

And nice tip about the double sided tape. I used brackets & straight pipes but think this will really help others with the 90degree elbows. Thanks again for the feedback and happy tuning!:D

Thanks StungBlue ! I can back up the .2 with dragy slips if needed.....checked the elbows just now after Wifey drove it...yeppers the tape has got the filters rock solid ! The trim tape (3m) needs 24 hours to harden up the adhesion....I double layered the lil 2 inch pieces....rock solid today!.....total cost 78 bills and 8 bills was for the 3m adhesive.....filters only 19.95 each from Amazon....2 elbows 30 bills....Heck Yes ! :) Wash

Are all of the necessary clamps included for this project? Would I need to reuse clamps from the factory airbox?

All the clamps are with the conical air filters....and you reuse your others...you are gtg :) Wash

Nice, I went ahead and ordered the parts, as well as some heat tape to apply to the back of the heat shield. I own a Genesis G70, and as far as I've seen all of the basic stinger intakes bolt right up with no issue (minus the Velossa snorkels), so this should work just fine with my 3.3T G70.

My total came to about $218. The heat shields were awfully expensive for what they are, costing $42.75 a piece. I suspect given how dynamic Amazon.ca pricing tends to be others may be able to get away with spending a bit less than I did. I also went with the Spectre 86981 elbows as I preferred the looks of those, which added another 18 bucks or so to my order. The adhesive barrier I bought for the heat shields was another $15 as well. I have Amazon prime, so all of these items shipped for free for myself, not sure how much shipping would be without prime.

I didn’t pull the trigger on the heat shields...they are double the price now. I have seen them drop $3 back and forth so I am hopping it will go lower.
I did get the cones (todayyyyyy!!!) and the elbow from the link above. Elbow were amazon prime @$11 and cones were a week from the States @33 , so far in for $88 cnd - still amazing price!!

Great to hear and welcome to the DIY club!

And no offense to anyone but I personally wouldn’t spend money on those type of heat shields. Unless they create some type of wall/barrier to prevent hot air from being drawn into the filters the hot air will just go around it.

Finding the angle to have the cones rested was probably the longest part of the diy.
No heat shield as of yet , price is still $43cnd each !
I only did two laps with the car, nice pshhhh , sometimes subtle , sometimes not.
I did open the hood afterwards and it was hot in there, definitely will need some heat shield or bigger airflow coming in.
Position of the cones could have been in any position, as the connector from flex pipe make the 90 elbow be in any places.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this tread!!

Glad to see another DIY join our fun and yw for the tips!

I have to say that looks like a tight fit and a little stretching to the hoses and tubing, but hope it works well and stays in place.

Congrats on your new intakes and enjoy the performance & sweet turbo sounds!:D
