Not me. I am watching this play out. When the gas station attendant pulled up on my driver's side wiper he tore into the surface of my PPF wrapped edge. Being "self healing" that mostly settled down over the following days until you can't see the aggrieved spot unless you know it's there. There was one car on Jerry Seiner's lot that had the exact same damage as in the above photo. Others have posted pics with the exact same damage. It's not a paint failing issue.
Wait...maybe I misunderstood you. Are you saying that the issue is caused by the wipers, but when it's in service mode and not the other way around?

Yes, somehow when the wipers are taken back down, somebody is screwing with the wipers and causing damage to the spot that doesn't line up when you simply lift the wiper up from the wiper well. It's a theory I am not willing to test! Thank you very much. But it would explain how so many cars wind up with damage to the exact same spot.

My belief is that Kia had an issue with either their assembly process, or the robotic grapple that held and positioned the hood for installation - too many cars with that same paint chip in the exact same spot on the back side of the hood, on that one side only. I don't think there is a way to manipulate the wiper to impact there - it simply is too far out of the arm's scope of travel.

I got my phone call today after being escalated from Linda and am now dealing with Jasmin Diaz from Kia Corporate HQ's in California. She sent me an offer letter which pretty much has all 3 options on it again but with detailed breakdown of the buyback which is now option 2. There's a spot at the end to fill out saying which option you want and a signature and date line. It says after receiving, it will take up to 60 days for completion of the process. I will be yellowless within 60 days now I guess. I think now it might be ceramic, blue, or red...i like the ceramic best with blue a close 2nd. the wife likes red the best.
Do you mind sharing your thought process on why you are choosing the buyback? I haven't decided and I'm waiting for HQ to provide me with a detailed breakdown. I'm torn between the repaint or swap/buyback. I don't know that I can stomach a partial repaint on a brand new car especially after the dealer told me that they are keeping records of the yellow and repaint and there will likely be some diminished value. One could argue that Kia is compensating with the $5K so there is that. Guess I'm still on the fence and you're the first person, that I've seen, that's not going with the repaint. I have also inquired about the 2019 in Pantera Metal as my swap car. Both Kia HQ and the dealer stated that shouldn't be an issue, but they will have to find the car first and that might be a problem.

Ok thank for the clarification. Perhaps this is an assembly issue. I'm surprised it passed QA.
It does seem unlikely. The moment that Kia Corp realized there were cars getting through with that damage they would have the quality control people watching for it. And of course the assembly machine fubar rectified, therefore no more problem. Here is another case of build date. But no way to track it down efficiently. You'd have to start yet another poll.

Been having all sorts of problems with the paint on my hood. After I pointed out the issues the dealership went back to their inventory and a lot of their cars are having similar issues.

forum won't let me post pictures.
what is build date?

What is your build date? Its listed in the driver door jam. Also start a case with kia customer care rather than the dealer.

Build date was 11/2017. I also phoned Kia Canada and i had the worst guy to deal with. He told me there is no paint issues with the stingers and told me there was nothing he could do..... I am patiently waiting to see if Kia will look into the paint problems and resolve the issue.
What was the build date for the yellow cars with paint issues??

Virtually all Yellows are late 2017. I can't believe some maroon is still employed who doesn't know what is happening all over the Internet.

My case keeps getting better, I'm at my wits end with this company.

Some of you may remember that several months ago I said a KMA rep saw my car in person, agreed there was an issue, and was taking care of my case (to some extent anyways). Well that person left Kia at some point without saving/forwarding my info to anyone, and the dealership I met him at was supposed to take photos and other information too, and they didn't save it, so the person handling my case now doesn't have enough "official" information and I need to make another trip to a dealership. It'll be my 5th or 6th one since owning the car, every time I do this I have to take a day off from work or go on the weekend when it's really busy, either way I lose 2.5-3+ hours of my time, including the drive to get there.

My case has essentially started over, despite being open for months and being closed on me repeatedly, 8 months I've had this paint issue now. I also keep having other issues with the car. The last time I was at the dealership they took it upon themselves to work on the hatch again and it seems like they may have messed up the adhesion of the piece between the painted panel and the glass because that section is lifting now (I admit the timing could be a coincidence, but I would have noticed this if it were happening earlier). I've attached 4 photos, two is on the passenger side which is looks loose but doesn't look as bad as the driver side, and the other is the driver side where debris and other things are getting under the panel. Getting pictures of this area was a little difficult, so I apologize.

All I know is that this is another issue I shouldn't have to be dealing with and I'm getting really tired of it. I have too much other crap going on in my life right now for this to be the constant thing nagging me literally all year.

I don't have a lot of time left to pursue the lemon law in my state and if this isn't remediated to my satisfaction in the next couple of months I'll probably be looking for legal advice. This has turned into such a joke.

I actually noticed what looks like a foam sticking out of my hatch very similar to yours. I might go look at it further when I get my car back from the detail shop and see if I have a similar Issue like yours

Last I checked the foam/rubber piece is no longer being held by anything on the driver side (just sorta lays there) and seems to move around a bit on the passenger side. The driver side lifting is getting worse, though I haven't checked in the last couple of days since I took those pictures, if the passenger side or the center is showing signs. I have no idea whats causing it, I just know it's new and that water and other stuff getting under it can't be good because I'm not sure where it drains. I don't drive my Stinger much anymore (partially) because I'm afraid something is gonna happen to it that'll jeopardize my case (getting hit in a parking lot, hail, whatever might cause damage that Kia can use to not take it back), so while it sits at home I have a cover on it which should stop anything getting in there. Can't do much when I actually need to drive it though.

I'm waiting for the appointment for my paint (again) to also have them look at this hatch/panel/lifting issue, because I don't have the time to keep making multiple trips. So it's just going to have to keep lifting in the mean time.

Same here unfortunately. :(

...Snip....

Oh...you mean this? I noticed this at 100 miles on the odometer. We're not sure what's doing it but I've already talked to my KIA dealership about it.

So my buddy who actually works at a KIA dealership actually took a look around the lot and sent me this on a brand new one they got. It's literally my car's twin but hasn't been sold yet.

Seal issue around the back glass and paint pealing around the hood scoops.

Oh yea, not sure how far back you've read this thread but here's my post back on page 8 with some pictures
Discussion of Stinger paint quality (Was - Paint Chip Issue)

Here's more pictures, and the first time Kia closed my case on me, way back on page 11
Discussion of Stinger paint quality (Was - Paint Chip Issue)

And here is my original thread back in February about it, when no one here seemed to have the problem, or notice it. Like you, I've been dealing with this since I bought it, 8 months ago now.
Paint Quality

Edit: Sorry, thought your post was about the paint/hood/wipers, yours is the only other post I've seen (here at least) about the rear hatch/panel seal/lifting issue.

That's exactly what mine currently looks like as well.

I just contacted my salesman (good friend of mine) and dealership sales manager to let them know about the paint issues, rear windshield adhesive issue, and headlight fitment issue (that's the only problems I've noticed so far). We'll see what happens next!

I am wondering if there is a cause and effect with hatch rattle going on here. Do any of you who are seeing insulating foam starting to protrude also have a hatch rattle issue? And if so, is your trim a GT2 or other trim with automatic hatch opener? This should have its own thread; it sure isn't about paint!

I'm curious what you find out. I dont know if that foam thing is just to prevent potential rattle. I dont think that would block water from rain.
