Can the moderators assert some authority here, so we can get back to the topic of paint issues for owners?

Has anyone, with the yellow Stinger gone through the repaint yet? I've read some other owners with different colors have... I think the micro blue with not great results. I'm curious if anyone has followed the process and been happy with the results? I'm in a holding pattern. I have my letter from Kia with the three options including how to do the swap and what they will give me on the buyback.

It does seem unlikely. The moment that Kia Corp realized there were cars getting through with that damage they would have the quality control people watching for it. And of course the assembly machine fubar rectified, therefore no more problem. Here is another case of build date. But no way to track it down efficiently. You'd have to start yet another poll.
If KIA was on top of their production or paint issues they wouldn't be selling cars with peeling paint under the headlights for the last 6 months.
I went to the dealer today and counted 5 of 12 Stingers with peeling paint under the headlight.

Dude, that is 60% of the members of this forum who chose to vote. There are many, many owners of Stingers who are not members of this forum.

Then whats the point of the poll? Why have one at all if the data is no good?

Lol you guys are so insecure. This is THE. Kia Stinger forum. This issue is being reported by YouTubers that have bought the car, etc. It is happening across all colors. I get that it sucks to have bought a first model year car with a serious issue and that is the big risk but don't try to convince yourself this isn't a big deal. Nobody in their right mind would buy this car right now if they knew this was affecting even 10% of the cars, you don't spend 35-50k for that. I own a KIA Optima and was set on a 2019 Stinger but the quality issues are not insignificant. Be realistic.
Pretty much why I haven't bought one yet even though I really want to. Heart says yes, brain says no way. The bias in this forum isnt helping either. When you look at the situation objectively you get trashed by owners who are looking at it emotionally. Not good.

The poll is valid, but it should be taken into context—the fact that not all owners have contributed. It’s like polling one town about their thoughts on the state. If 60% of that one town’s residents do not like the state, should we assume that 60% of the entire state residents do not like it also?

I also share your opinion here. Of course there is bias. There is bias because everyone who buys something will want to defend they decision to purchase. And for those of you who are doing excellent pre-purchase research, that is unfair to you. But those who have already purchased the car have had an experience with it. If they’re defending it so deeply, chances are that the are very satisfied with the overall vehicle.

These last few opinions as expressed are very rational and fair. Now, can we keep it that way? We don't need to keep rehashing our devotion and criticism. It's obvious that the majority of Stinger owners are satisfied overall with their choice. It is also obvious that there are prominently displayed cases to the contrary. Arguing over which demographic is more important/significant is pointless.

I am supposed to get my car back tomorrow, so I will see what is what then.

I like the car and plan on keeping it unless something truly odd happens, then I will re-evaluate at that time. I have had a couple weeks of driving my Genesis and the truly terrible rental Kia gave me (I mean, the curbs aren't gonna jump themselves, amirite?) and I have realized that I do truly miss my Stinger. I miss it more than I did my Evo.

Hopefully the paint is sorted, if not..... ugh... but doing some research, I found that this is not the only car that has had paint issues, and from what some of the folks at other places say, not even the first Kia. What is different though is that they are offering some cash to ease the pain, OR your money back. If you REALLY, honestly have a hard time with that, then I think you should spend your cash elsewhere because even though it is only a car, it is indeed personal, or we'd all be driving the same thing.

Just feel for those who have bought Mustang GTs only to have Ford give them crap when the engine lets go (as a former Mustang owner as well, I find this not at all unexpected or surprising).

Also feel for the many of us - myself included - who presently have an FCA product that sucks (electrical, transmission, water-pump on a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee). Realize that no car is perfect, take a breath and enjoy life.

Ah well, I am off of my soap box. That is my 2 cents for now, I will go back to my post and I will lurk here, read all the truly fascinating comments and trolls, sip my drink then go outside and enjoy my ride when it gets back. If the paint sucks, you can all say "I told you so".

Until then, it is all speculation.

Agreed, cant wait to hear about the repaint. I too am waiting on some forum reviews before making the decision on repaint or buyback...

Bear in mind this though:

Paint shops are like Kia dealers. There are excellent ones, okay ones and others that are best punched in the throat. If I have a good experience in South Florida, does not really translate to a good experience in South Carolina and vice versa. I guess that is part of the issue with this whole thing.

The folks that live a little East of me all drive Bentleys and Ferraris and so on, soooooo here's hoping that I have a good shop doing mine. I honestly cannot find much about most of the shops around my immediate area, so rolling the dice.

If the paint sucks and is irreparable, I will most likely throw my hands up because I will have found a "bad" shop. If my paint looks like @Luminary's there would be throat punching. Then I would promptly drive the crap out of the car until I got my money back from Kia.

Win-Win all around.

For me, to not buy a stinger because you might need Kia to honor their paint warranty is like not dating the hottest chick around because she has holes in her jeans. Under the hood, both are beasts you can have a ton of happiness with. That's all.

My repainted bumper looks better than factory and I am ecstatic. I'm glad I took her for a ride and then took her home.

Understood fully. I am more interested in the entire process. My local dealer still has yet to provide specific details on where the car will be repainted if i go with that option. They just took another yellow one so i am hoping to see that one first hand before i make the call.

Solid plan...

I was advised not to do PPF or anything for at least 30 days, in case anyone was interested.

Going back to lurking.

Spoke too soon. My service adviser says that before she releases the car to me, Kia has to send someone to inspect it.

Back to jumping curbs in my Nissan Versa - in hindsight I probably shoulda changed it out for something more powerful like a bicycle. I do admit I like the looks on people's faces when I pull up next to them and rev it.... Hilarity!

Your bumper on the passenger side isnt aligned properly and your Kia badge looks crooked.

Thanks, I noticed the panel issue already. They were not supposed to repaint the bumper, but I will see if they repainted it when I pick it up tomorrow.

Good stuff. The logo could be the angle of the photo. The bumper adjustment is an easy fix. Good luck. Color match looks great from the photos.
