Just an update on my black, I went in about a month ago to the dealership, then about a week later to their body shop to get estimate for the repairs,I had chips on both fenders, hood and rear quarter panel. A week went by and I never heard anything, so I called Kia hq with my claim number. They said they were waiting to hear from Kia korea to find out what is going on with our paint.
My dealership service guy mentioned the issue on yellow black and blue, I didn't hear anything till today. Today he called left a message saying they will repaint the area with chips, id get a loaner and it should take about 3 days.ill find out tomorrow the extent of the repairs.....
This doesn’t sound like a permanent solution, just a band-aid, sorry to say.

I'd be waiting for an official solution from KIA. So the rest of the car is perfect? I don't see how that can be. This is a uniform issue. Entire vehicle.

Yeah my service manager did tell me originally that they wanted to wait and hear what to do from Kia Korea, but it does seem rather odd that all of a sudden they want to fix half the car. I am not sure what to do

I would get everything in writing, and also ask for them to be willing to repaint the ENTIRE car if any other spots show up. I would want everything in writing and a lifetime guarantee on the paint. Also would want them to agree that if I am not happy with anything touched up and it doesn't meet my expectations that the car will be repainted anyway.

No way would I let them do anything unless everything was very specific, IN WRITING, before any work is performed.

I went into the dealer today for my second oil change and they said there was a voluntary service bulletin that printed out with my car and they will be doing a full respray and I would get a loaner vehicle for the duration. I had an opportunity to see the bulletin and it is quite extensive. At this point in time it is only for yellow stingers, he said there was some organic compound that was in the paint mix that caused paint defects and unreliability. I do not have an appointment scheduled at for the respray at this time, I'll post when I find out more.

For a summary of my particular issue, I have large chips now at 5k miles on the hood, roof, doors, and fenders of my vehicle, other paint defects include a fuel door where the paint doesn't cover the edges complete, or underside, it appears to be green in color. I also have a giant chip on one of the black hood vents themselves, that left a giant white chip.

One other thing, under the owners area of Kia's website, within the recall section of the website it lists the recall on my car. It is listed as service campaign SC166, with the description SC166 SUNSET YELLOW STINGER REPAINT. This was not there as of 7/18/18, but is there today 7/20/18.

Some other things, the service managed stated that it was a service campaign and not a recall. So as an owner more than likely you will have to initiate this through KIA or your dealer. The dealer is authorized to provide a loaner up to for 30 days to accomplish this process which is quite extensive. According to what I was told the car is disassembled and repainted, there are extensive steps that have to be documented with pictures by the painter before KIA will sign off .

Finally added my yes vote. Noticed several small chips to primer on the hood yesterday and at least 4 chips/peeling areas on the inside edge of the hood vents(chips are on the hood/paint). You don't need to take the vents off to see them either, so I'd recommend people take a look.

Thanks for the new update on this. I went ahead and e-mailed the salesman at my dealership just to say hey and ask who the best person to speak to about it there would be. Seems like a roundabout way of getting info but he's a nice guy and I really hate their whole automated phone system that splits between their Kia and VW dealer sides.

I feel like I haven't really had an issue yet though, I just wanted my dealership to know that I know I MAY have issues, in case they want to get out ahead of this. Only chipping I had was while removing the front badge, and plenty of people here warned me about it but I was too lazy to just get proper fishing line until I hit a problem.

I’m sure there are a lot of us who haven’t had issues, but for those who’d hoped Kia would handle this issue for all colors the same as they are for the yellow, it seems official now that they will not. Best of luck to all who will be handling their cases individually. I hope it turns out well.

Lets state what we know........Blue had a stop sale for a very short period. Blue has been granted a respray on a case by case basis. Numerous forum members are experiencing paint issues with just about all colors. I think more to come. We must be patient. At least if someone files a claim and needs an estimate we have a basis for how that estimate is to follow. I do not agree with the methods 100% but it looks as if you can voice your concerns individually. We will all get through this.

I still want to know why they won't paint bumpers if there is obvious paint chipping off especially by the headlights...

Exactly, the same shitty paint is on the bumpers too. I will be getting a different color if they won't respray the bumpers also.

This is what is called “cutting corners” to save money. Are there going to be buybacks as in OZ?

This is really snowballing. KIA has a massive problem on their hands. Nothing says quality like having your brand new car taken apart to be repainted.

I'm sorry, i'm failing to see the logic in this statement. Help me to understand where you are coming from on this.

Went ahead and called Kia consumer affairs to get a case# going. They said we'd receive a letter(and potentially call) within the next few weeks outlining the 3 options. He did reiterate the reason being due to paint adherence, and said we'd have 'til dec 1st to make a decision. I did bring up the question of whether they were going to match it feature for feature if I chose a different color, specifically regarding the LSD. He added that to their investigation, so should hopefully have an answer when I hear from them next.

Anyone know why they are not painting the bumpers? Seems like if their is an adhesion issue, which appears to be affecting cars based on build date and not color that the entire car is affected.
