Crash

It worked just fine actually, just a few scratched on the lens which I didn’t like.
Oh I guess it's plug and play then. Scratches can always be clear coated and polished. That's what I'm doing with mine. Anyways to understand what's going on I could really use a repair estimate from the insurance agency. Something like this. Unless you didn't get one, which you should have so you can show the dealer when they claim 6k in damages. IMG_20200221_072049~2.webp

I figured the estimate would be around a few hundrred dollars - $1k max. Didn’t want to bother having the insurance get involved and raising my premium. I have 3 other cars on the policy. And the scratch on the headlight was really deep, I don’t think it could have been clear coated and polished.

So no insurance involved huh? So all repairs are out of pocket. That's fine only when you 1: know the car yourself or 2: know someone that knows cars. Like they can actually go in there and see what got messed up. For example: my right turbo ate something and messed up the fins. It still started and ran, no issues. But if I where to hit full boost it would explode and destroy itself. Thankfully it was in limp mode because of the crash so I had little boost. Anyways that would have never been discovered unless I checked. Always check everything, or if you don't know how then have someone that does. And pictures, lots and lots of pictures.

I have a few friends that “Know cars” , one is a service mechanic at a ford dealership used to be at Honda, my other friend has his own shop where he builds rally cars, and another friend of mine has helped me a lot with installing a few of my mods. I would say I’m in good hands, I just went to the dealer looking to get my engine fixed up to which they said “warranty can’t cover it because the accident caused the engine damage.” I didn’t even think that the little damage I had, would make them void my warranty. They told me that my insurance would have to pay for a new motor, which they quoted me 10-12k for.

My entire car cost 12k. Lol. Basically here are the 2 paths: dealer and independent. Dealer path is tied to insurance and a legit paper trail. Otherwise they will say "accident caused it, pay us big money to fix, and we keep the parts and sell them for even more money". Its a ok path when your car gets totaled and I'd you have good insurance. Independent path is get everything done without the dealer knowing that it was in an accident. Preferably at a good shop that won't report it anywhere. It's like the car was never even damaged. No trace, all paid with cash, the shady stuff. The car has to be perfect however when you take it to the dealer. Like perfect, no scratches, all the bolts painted like OEM. What your doing is trying to not get insurance involved while also informing the dealer. The dealer is NOT your friend, and they will use any chance they get to screw you. They don't want to help you. And since there is no real insurance quote, they can say whatever they want. So congrats, you found a very good way to screw yourself. My suggestion: get everything looked and fixed by your friend, if he knows what he's doing. Make it perfect. Take it to another dealer for warrant work and service. Deny everything if they say it was hit. For that to work you need to unhit your car.
