Contemplating Trading in the Stinger for an EV

Test drove the EV6 GT-Line yesterday and it didnt feel as quick as the Stinger. I wasnt able to get a light to try from a stop but from highway speed 30-50, 50-70 the Stinger felt much quicker. I test drove a Model 3 dual motor at the time I bought my Stinger. The EV6 felt nowhere near as responsive and quick as the Tesla. I’ll wait for the Gt version. Dealer says my deposit EV Limited Edition comes in next week and I have 1 week to decide before it goes up for sale. They were marking the GTLine up 10k. It drove nice, frunk was almost unusable, interior nice but wasn’t blown away, from just a vehicle standpoint not enough for me to get rid of my Stinger as it still one of the best looking cars on the road, IMO.
Btw the Kia dealer was packed, hard to believe people are willing to pay these market adjustments, just crazy.

I have a pre-order in on a Genesis GV60 performance, Hanauma mint with blue interior. Estimated delivery June-July. Love my Stinger...best car I've ever owned and 0 issues in the 3+ years I've owned it. I was planning to trade it in October anyway. With gas approaching $2.00/L here in Newfoundland it makes sense for me. To get 400km (and less in Winter) it will cost me $100 compared to $10 for the Genesis. Also the GV60 has 430hp and will do 0-60 in 4.0 sec.

Eventually the green team will force me into a hybrid or EV and that's ok.

I enjoy the Stinger but I've hardly used it(12000 kms in almost 2 years). My wife drives more than I but can't handle the Stinger. I detest having 2 cars when all we need is one. I've seriously thought about selling my beauty. Prices for used cars have sky rocketed.
We were lucky to find a new hyundai venue locally as there is squat available in other brands. It's a fine econobox. Happy wife happy life.

The wife just bought a Hyundai Ioniq 5. Cyber grey, looks ok. Free charging for two years, kinda nice.

My Stinger is the best vehicle I have ever owned, but I see the hand writing on the wall and have ordered a Tesla. Due here in May - June. Really hate to give up the Stinger. Really, REALLY, hate to go through the learning process of doing everything on a touch screen. But no more filling stations will be nice. And a maintenance schedule of, check the brake fluid every 2 years and put in a new cabin air filter every 4 years is appealing.

Polestar 2 Dual Motor AWD is the only one I would consider selling for.

After thinking a bit I am not sure the car was in sport mode. I will drive again when the Limited Edition comes in. Stay tuned….

I was going to ask if you had it in Sport mode as you will feel the difference. The e-tron does 5.5 to 60 but you feel the difference when in Dynamic (Audi speak for sport) mode and you floor it, it will push you back in your seat. I will have to go find a dealer with one to take for a spin.

Times are changing, by the 3rd quarter, there will be a lot more EVs available for sale, from other brands. The range talk becomes moot once people really look at their situation and realize they don’t drive long distance much and that there are charging stations available along highways should the need arise. Being able to charge fully from home at a much lower cost than public fast chargers, while not having to do the same sort of maintenance (or pay for it) also adds to the allure. Once this price gouging thing settles down and there are move inventory available, I think more people will be making to move.

Agreed. However, i do travel for work and not having a robust charging network does damper things a bit. I too will wait for the price wars to settle down. I have never, and will never pay sticker for a vehicle. I bought my 2019 Stinger GT2 brand new in June 2020 for 42k all in (taxes tags etc). Took lots of calls but got it done.
Timing is everything!!

I'm with you on that! I make the calls, setup the lease, then go sign and pickup. It's sad that some dealers are still operating by the old way of selling. These same people are fighting against Tesla from doing something new. Polestar is selling their vehicles via an online model as well, I was hoping they would have made a really new and unique design. That car looks like a variation of the old S60 body but they didn't use the stretched Chinese version, which would have provided more space for the batteries for better range.

I lucked out last year on the e-tron, the winter sale with the Costco incentive and them throwing in the EV incentive as part of the discount made it a great buy. That car was $77K and is a luxury vehicle, no way they expect KIA buyers to shell out that sort of money for their first EV. That would send people over to Tesla or someplace else that has one without a markup.

So as the title says, I’m seriously considering getting out of the Stinger and into an EV.
I commute about 150 miles per day (almost all Highway) and full up the tank every other day. So between time spent at the gas station and the actual cost of gas, I’m really thinking an EV makes more sense.
My issue is I absolutely love this car! From the looks both interior and exterior to the ride quality. It’s so fun to drive (although I could use a bit more power) and the compliments and stares it gets makes me feel great also lol.
IMO, there is no EV that can match the looks of this car anywhere near the price. But for what im paying in a car note added to the cost of gas every month, I can definitely afford an EV (ie. Tesla, EV6 if it ever is available, Ionic 5, etc).
I’m looking for opinions from fellow Stinger owners because I’m hoping you guys feel the same way about your cars and can understand my plight.
So what would you do? EV or keep your Stinger?
Thanks in advance for the input.
I’d wait if I were you let the honeymoon phase of the ev die out and wait to see the underlying issue the first gen models have

Update: went back today to drive the actual reserved special edition model. Matte grey color was nice, was numbered in the high 900’s out of 1500. I made sure I was in sport mode. Still didnt feel as responsive or quick as my Stinger. I was wondering if engine noise has anything to do with it. I also realized i like a more confined driver cockpit that hugs me as opposed to these open cabins. Just my opinion. My second drive confirmed i would stick with the Stinger, especially at the 70k price tag before taxes and tags and all the other fees, so likely 71k (no tax on evs in NJ). Tax credit of 7500 doesnt really help either when you can get a Tesla Y Performance for 60k, a much more robust charging network, longer range, better performance which for an ev are very critical categories to me. Told them i will wait on the GT. Dealer said likely 20k more, i told them they are nuts and there is no way they will get that with the maturing EV market and with Tesla in the category. So they argued Tesla is bottom of the chart in reliability. Understandable considering the youth of the company and the complex electronics within. Problems are not the powertrain. He even had the nerve to say “that’s why you have to sell your Tesla before 15k miles” Im not a big Tesla fan but i give them huge credit for the transformation and putting the charging network front and center. He continued to say Tesla doesn’t make money. Uhg, I wish salespeople did research.
Anyways, after having a Tesla vs the world conversation I decided it was time to go.
PS: Sales said numerous people have passed on the reservation saying the same thing about getting a Model Y Performance cheaper, let alone i dont have to deal with an uninformed salesperson.

^^^Stinger wins out. Cool. For how long, though? ;)

Eventually only the diehards will have ICE vehicles, but this is a good ways off. I'm 40 and may not see 75% total adoption rates in my lifetime.

There will be some ICE vehicles preserved for historical reasons and a few by those who are so wealthy the cost isn't an issue. I've watched a fair bit of history, did a lot of process improvement on the strategic planning process and really followed the EV move. IMHO, 3:00 PM next Tuesday would be a much closer guess than 'not in your lifetime'.

Yep, they do. As you know, the Korean cars are out over there for about a year before we get them. It is on the E-GMP platform, same as IONIQ 5 and EV6 and it is the smallest of the 3 however, the sportiest.

$70K man that's cheap compared to one place that marked their EV6 up $25k before their list of fees, ending up around $80K and I think that one was a RWD version, in Florida. These idiot dealers are pulling the same old tricks. It's the only one available in the area so they feel justified in this. The cars tops out at $58K before incentives, not sure what other extra options the Launch Edition comes with but I'm sure it doesn't have the performance upgrade that the GT will come with so that $70K price seems like it is a dealer markup.

As far as acceleration, the EV6 is about .1 second off the Stinger's time, so it basically is the same. The Tesla argument is ridiculous, typical bad salesman, "hey, they have crap and my product is better." There should be a lot of EV charging points in the cities, it's the highway that I find is lacking in having options but that will be changing in the near future. We charge our e-tron mainly at home and use fast chargers when we go on long trips. Closer to the end of the year there will be a lot more choices for EV available on the market and those people with these crazy markup will end up stuck with those cars. Hang in there, if you don't need a car now, you can wait until things get better.
