Burger Tuning JB4 for Kia Stinger!

Hi @Terry@BMS

I did some ECO mode driving tonight and pulls some logs. Could you take a peek at them? Car felt a LITTLE bit sluggish when commuting today. Maybe it's in my head.... Maybe the small gap? I dunno.

Sometimes I see my AFR spike to 25.5. Also see the ign timing dip from 25 to 11 for no apparent reason.

I attached a screen shot of the AFR spikes.

Thank you so much for everything you do for us!

Terry will give you the best advice but there are a couple obvious things that may help.

The main “sluggish” problem is likely just from using ECO mode. That’s kinda like putting low octane regular gas(87) in your tank and wondering why it doesn’t perform well.o_O ECO mode intentionally prevents boost & RPM from building to save on gas. This is probably confusing and working against the JB4 which is trying to increase boost based on throttle input, etc. Even Comfort mode has some of those “sluggish” effects because the TCU tends to shifts gears too early while it’s just starting to build boost. Sport mode seems to work best since the TCU will hold gears and stay in sinc with the JB4s extra boost, etc.

Also, your logs don’t help much since your not doing WOT runs to see how everything is performing. You don’t go over 50% pedal input and most of the log is at 0psi so your AFR and IGN are fluctuating. The JB4 doesn’t even start altering parameters until a certain pedal input so most of your logs aren’t useful for analysis.

You need a few WOT logs to show true AFR, IGN and boost results that can be analyzed properly. Hope this helps and happy tuning.

Ah ok. I did WOT runs already and Terry said that were fine. I was just trying to see if the regular eco driving was fine too

I know these logs don't do much good being so short, but Map 2 over a few logged runs seems to be consistently low on boost (ECU PSI is lower than 10lbs by about 2-4 on average). Map 1 seems pretty rock solid except for 1 dip during a short second gear pull. On Map 2, to me IGN looks ok, AFR seems normal, so I'm wondering if the car is pulling boost because of knock. I'm on a tank of Petro "94" octane but I wonder if the 94 just isn't there. With the 8 liters of 91 I had in the tank before filling, I should be at 93.6 octane or so doing the math. If "ECU" boost is low (and therefore commanded boost via JB4), does the car reduce boost before pulling back timing to avoid knock? I think that's what's going on here. Need to probably do some gas testing.

JB4 indicated 5.1s 0-60 is rather slow for map 2, again, thinking boost/octane is coming into play.

I'm also noticing very obvious power reduction during gear changes on Map 2. The logs don't show throttle coming down, but IGN1 dumps to zero between gears. Normal?

Logs seem all normal to me. Would want to do longer map2 runs to evaluate boost targeting though.

Not much to look at, just a couple half throttle runs? Eco is sluggish by design.

AFR goes to infinity when letting off the gas as fuel is cut off, JB4 logging caps the reading at 25:1.

I agree that better logs would be more helpful, I need to get on the track...

I just wonder though, I've been using other's logs as reference points to learn how to read my own (plus some tutorials) and I wonder why I can't hit 15lbs in first and second? I've seen most map 2 runs hitting 15lbs pretty sold with a smooth taper to redline, but I keep seeing about 12 to 13 in the meaty section and taper to 10lbs (tuned numbers) near redline. How do I go faster on map 2 and get more boost (15)? lol

Lower gears zoom by quickly, isn't much EGT built up, and boost is tapered to redline, so you're not going to hit a higher target in those low gears.

True. I guess I just need to run some 1/4 passes to make myself feel better and validate everything haha. It does pull harder though, no doubt about that. Basically, I need to beat my buddy's '18 SS Camaro. He can't launch it, but if he ever learns to, I want to know I have more than he does lol.

Hey Terry, Just did a short drive and run on Map 2. Are you able to see my log to see if there are any issues? Thanks. @Terry@BMS
Hey, what gas are you running in your car (octane, brand)?

What maximum boost are the stock turbos rated for?

I don't think we know that yet. Tork tunes run 22psi (per Tonkabob) and Lap3 tunes run 21psi. JB4 is playing it safer about 18psi

Terry has said there is little power gained above 18 and that’s why he’s limited it there.

FYI I would get knock on shell 91 even on map 1. I run E85 with it now. The best gas in Canada I have found is 91 octane that has some e10 in it. Even chevron 94 was worst then shell 91. Canadian has sucks. I would get some E85 if you can in your area.

Hello @Terry@BMS

I have three separate questions

1. Is it possible to have the JB4 logs display speeds higher than 255km/h or is it a OBD2 restriction?
2. What is the filter size (or filter reference) for the BMS intakes? I could not find it online.
3. What engine oil are you using on your test car?

______________________________
1) No the OBDII signal caps at 255
2) It's not a standard size
3) Whatever the factory oil was. A free oil change was part of the purchase. :) I usually run Mobile1 in our cars though so that is the plan when I next change it.

Do you know what is the internal diameter and height of the filter?

I can measure one for you Monday

Thanks that would very nice :)
