Burger Tuning JB4 for Kia Stinger!

Hello Terry,

Could you please have a look at my log?
It is a pull in 2nd gear 60kph, using map 8.
In the middle of the pull, the RPM did a weird thing after the 3rd gear change. Any idea about what caused it? and/or how to prevent it?
The boost levels also seem higher than other pulls on the same settings.

Thanks in advance!

Looks like wheel or trans spin there on RPM jumping up post shift at higher RPM. I'd use the IAT wire to spoof up IAT so the ECU is running a higher boost target in that area. A setting of 6cyl=30 should do it.

Wow that log looks unusual and your RPM is all over the place. It almost seems like your transmission or torque converter is slipping... Im curious to see whats going on there too and hope Terry can help.

Thank you for the quick answer.
It was not a wheel spin, so I would lean towards the transmission spin hypothesis.
However I am not sure that I understand what your advice/explanation is. I think that you are refering to the bit3 in Future Use D in User settings, but is there anywhere I can find more information? Do I need to buy some extra wiring? Also I could not find the 6cyl setting in the menus.. Sorry but I am not very familiar with the terms you used (but willing to learn!).

This happened several times to two friends of mine who are using JB4 (also map8), but this is the first time I experience it on my car. It seems to occur when shifting a little bit too early...

Wait, so you are trying to manually shift instead of leaving it in Sport mode? I've heard of others having problems manually shifting, and experienced that same issue in my buddies JB4 Stinger. He said it only happens when he uses the paddle shifters, and almost seems like the transmission TCU gets confused when using a piggyback.

Maybe try the same run just in Sport mode and see if you get similar issues. Hope that helps and look forward to your updates.

OBDII wire routing...whew. The rest of the install is easy as noted, but damn I had a hard time getting that bit done. Success, finally, via the coat hanger wire method. Not a matter of the actual task being tricky, just a matter of shoulders vs. space available.

The IAT wire is 1/2 of a fuel wire kit, a wire with a 1k resistor and posi-tap, that attaches to the JB4 brown MAP connector, allowing the JB4 to manipulate how the ECU reads intake temperatures. In this case you'd use that wire and related settings to make IAT higher and thus increase the ECU's boost target, and the trans holding power.

Alternatively just lower the boost target by lowering the map8 boost additive as needed for clean runs.

Is it possible to purchase fuel wires only?

It seems that I missed your post. I manually shift because boost drops past 6000 rpm. I have been advised to do so, but I have not compared times doing so and leaving it auto shift. Maybe I should.

If you are not in the US i think the jb4 has a feature for a passive delete (would be amazing to use here)
Terry could you please confirm this?
I am not in the US and if the JB4 has this feature, I may remove the primaries.

The jb4 does have that option. You can also use it in the US. Just need to use a vpn. When the jb4 prompts location pick a different country like Canada and it will work here as well. Terry cant tell you that, but I can ;)

Where is the option located? I couldnt find anything in the menus.

So if the country is not USA it automatically deletes codes without having to check anything?
I would love to help you more but I have my primary cats so that's as much as I know. I looked into catless primaries and that's what I was told. You should be fine. I'm not sure what countries allow this bypass. I didnt go this route in the end. But if you dont want the check engine light there is a jb4 go around if you use a vpn (in the us). You however shouldnt need a vpn and are most likely good to go.

Do I need the spark plug socket tool to get the spark plug out?

No but our magnetic socket helps you not trash the new plugs dropping them back in. And when you get the combo with the plugs and the gaping tool, it's basically free. :)
