Burger Tuning JB4 for Kia Stinger!

Looks normal, no issues.

So any ideas as to why only a few of us seem to be getting the boost oscillations? It doesn't make any sense to me why I would be experiencing them all the time, yet other people with the same mods don't ever have this problem!?
To be honest, it is making it really hard for me to enjoy the JB4 and I'm starting to regret the purchase. I've tried running every firmware version, and every map and I'm currently only running version 5, map 1 because this seems to make the oscillations far less pronounced, but it means I am missing out on the new features added in the later firmware updates.
I understand that the oscillations are doing no harm, but they feel and sound shit, and every single person that comes in my car ask me what's wrong with it. So it's disappointing :(

Your wastegates are probably physically adjusted differently than other cars. Either too tight or too loose. Since we don't have direct wastegate control active yet with the Stinger JB4 there isn't much else we can do for you on that front at the moment. Adding in the IAT wire may change the equation and I'd be happy to send you one if you want to try that.

Unfortunately my friend feels the same way too.

Hes been holding on hoping for progress with JB4 wastegate control, but sounds like it won’t be ready anytime soon.

However you made a similar observation that oscillations are much less pronounced with V5 firmware. He only started noticing after upgrading from V4 to V6, so seems like something else in V6 firmware or newer is exaggerating the oscillations. I guess it’s something to do with the change in throttle closer added to V6 firmware but not sure yet. When weather permits he will get comparable logs with different firmwares and send to Terry for review.

Hopefully then Terry can add a FUD Bit setting to firmware V9 that can turn off whatever else that may be altering boost/throttle from V5 to V6, but still get all the rest of the updated features.

But please keep us updated on if the IAT wires helps too.

There is already a FUD sitting to revert to the v4 and earlier throttle mapping. So if that isn't doing it, must be something else. You can always load and log previous firmware same car, same day, vs the newer firmware, so we can see if anything stands out. As we're not able to recreate anything like that on our development car when you email in those logs be sure to also note the modifications on the vehicle.

I know you guys dont have direct control over the waste gate but are you able to log wgdc from the obdII?

Yes I log WGDC, it's not in the public software but adding it is on the to-do list and a precurser for the JB4 WGDC control.

Curious if you think the few people with boost oscillations would benefit from being able to log this. I thought the going theory was there may be some different mechanical adjustment of their wg. Logging duty cycle could shed further light on this no?

Not really as we already know it's WGDC oscillation in those isolated cases. The question now is why some report it on v8 firmware and not on v4 firmware, for example, given the problem should be present on both versions. Since most logs I see don't reflect any oscillation even at very high boost targets it's tricky to pin down the direct reason some cars exhibit it. So anyone who has it can continue to email in logs of what they do to recreate it, and the mod/climate they are recreating it on, and I'll keep those in a diagnostic folder here to continue to triangulate in on the cause.

But having direct WGDC control is the ultimate fix as we can then do whatever we want with the wastegate and filter out any ECU driven nonsense. :)

@Terry@BMS help! I’m getting some sort of weird hesitation up top. Tried map3 and map 2 did it today also. 3rd and 4th gear. I have plugs gapped at 24 btw. Thank you.

No indication in the log, the usual stumbling at higher boost levels suspect, fuel pressure, is on target.

Yes seems so. Boost, timing, and AFR OK.... Maybe a damaged plug if it's consistent?

Ok, it is consistent. Just did more testing. I’ll start with pulling plugs. Maybe it’s a bad tank of fuel. But then again we’re not running a crazy amount of boost.. can you see pre ignition on the jb4 logs? Here is the latest log. Top of the rpm in the gears mainly the last gear.

Your logs look really, really good. Can you elaborate on weird hesitation?

Sorry wasn’t talking about the FUD 7 “linear throttle mapping” setting as that does help slightly. We were thinking the other v6 update “less throttle closer during shifts” may be a factor. Could that adjustment to throttle closure relate to, or effect WGDC control?

Most of my friends v6+ logs show boost spikes at shifts or when letting off the gas, so it feels like the WG isn’t opening/venting enough boost and confusing the ECU/JB4 or WGDC. Does that make sense?

Are the 3-4psi spikes on shifts, or the big ignition spike at throttle closure related to WGDC?

We were simply hoping another FUD setting that specifically controlled “throttle closer at shifts” could be added to the FUD 7 setting and possibly resolve oscillations completely.

If not then I’ll have my buddy email comparable firmware logs as soon as possible. Thanks again for trying to help and keep the suggestions coming.:D
