Anyone hardwire a radar detector yet?

I have usually between my Optima and K900 used a set of tap wires with my radar detector and hit a positive and negative wire in the rear view mirror... I know with all the electronics with cruise control, autonomous braking, etc that the wires are no longer running to the back of the rear view mirror as they have in the past... anyone hard wired a radar detector yet and tapped into wires in the overhead console with the sunroof controls, etc?

I ended up having to tap into the same area on my k900..

Nope. Just plug mine into the "cigarette" lighter socket. Easier to remove it that way.

I really dislike the way that looks and feels in the car - but it's certainly a good idea if you cannot completely conceal the unit...

Yeah man I'm trying to do that as well for aesthetic purposes, but I'm actually trying to get mine to connect directly into the rear view mirror wiring if possible. Here's what the adapter looks like once you've taken off that plastic cover, just not sure what wiring is what so to speak... Anyone know what my red and black leads would connect to in this scenario?

Here are some pics of the wiring layout:

Did this in my S4 but in a different location in the overhead console.
Would like to do this in my Stinger also.
Hope we can get some answers to these questions.
btw, how did you remove the rear view mirror to expose the wires?

Radar detectors are a false sense of security. You guys do understand mr Leo uses instant on/pop radar now which pretty much renders radar detectors pointless right?

I actually didn't have to remove the mirror to get access to that panel above it, if you follow where the rear view mirror connects to that black mount/sensor on the windshield you can see a small outlined panel directly between it and where the mount meets the roof. I just pried it off from the mirror side and it came off fairly easily.

^^^ I’m not sure this is correct. I’d see the one below instead.

That should get you what you need to know. :)

You’re probably wanting Pin 6 (Ignition) and Pin 8 (Ground).

Great info, thanks..
btw, the direct connect wire tap has only 2 leads-one black, one red. No ground.
(the wire tap that goes to the fuse box has a ground also)
Black is positive and red is negative, correct?
What do you think are the best wires in which to insert each lead?

Usually it’s the opposite. Red is positive, Black is negative. Your radar detector installation instructions should say what the correct polarity is. I don’t understand what you mean by “the wire tap that goes to the fuse box has a ground also”. Are you talking about a different power option for the radar detector - a style that taps from the fuse box? (I have seen some before that sit under a fuse to get their power, and yes in that case the negative/ground wire on that style harness just goes to the chassis somewhere.)

Usually the connections would be Red wire to Ignition (Pin 6) so that the detector is only powered when the car is actually on and Black wire to Ground (Pin 10). You should check that the connections are correct on the mirror harness with a voltmeter before hooking it up. Those two wires should read +12V only when the car is on. If they show anything else then something isn’t right.

If you are not confident about doing this work then my recommendation would be to either Google and read more on this & also watch some YouTube videos until you are confident. The other option is to take the info and parts you have now to a car installer and pay the small amount it would cost to have them do it.

You still have the K900? What type of Rader are you using

Trying to connect tap for radar detector into fuse box under driver dash. the fuses are very small (micro), smaller than a mini fuse which is 1.1 cm in width. Has anyone connected into this fuse box and what did you use for a micro fuse?

I can confirm that it is indeed red wire to Ignition (Pin 6) and black wire to Ground (Pin 10), now I just need to affix the wiring somehow... I may end up just taking it in somewhere to have it done well after all.

My valentine radar and waze app have saved me countless times. So I don’t really think they are useless. Also, many LEOs drive with the radar on all the time.

I didn’t hard wire mine, but I did run the wire from the lighter, under the dash, inside the A Pilar to the top left corner of the windshield. The wire is totally hidden as is my radar.

Hello, new to the forum, I have an invisicord wire that I want to install into my stinger. Can you tell me what colored wire represents ignition and ground in the stinger wire harness?

Ok thanks, ground is black and ignition is brown
