Anyone hardwire a radar detector yet?

I plugged into the open "spare" socket but it provides continuous power. What socket will provide power only with the stinger ignition on?

Spare for me is ACC controlled. Turns off with ignition. Are you sure you’re in spare?

Yes. I plugged the tap into the socket just to the right of "spare" and it is working fine. Thank you.

since i'm not allowed to post pics yet  i'll post a link with a pic that i posted on a lexus forum 3 years ago. i reused this set up on the stinger.
used these pins (instead of tapping/splicing wires) to push into the back of the molex plugs at 6 and 8. got them at Frys. worked great.

I wish the cars came with an (optional?) USB power outlet behind the rear view mirror and back at the trunk, for dashcam usage, then you could only use the shortest usb-cable to start/stop the camera etc.

I ran into the same problem with the BlendMount Mirror Tap for my R3. Tried every angle and no way that was going to work. So I ended up using 22 AWG quick splice wire taps and inserting the mirror tap into one end.

It works well, a little bulky, but there's plenty of space to tuck everything back in behind the mirror access panel without issue.

How do you like your Viofo dashcam? How did you run the power cable is it in the headliner, A pillar and plugged into the cigarette power outlet or powered by the mirror? Thanks

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but where is "spare"? I can only find one in the engine fuse diagram...did you run this all the way into the engine compartment?

If you have a powered rearview mirror it's easier to tap into that for the Radar Detector.

The mirrortaps I tried were too thick and broke off, even the smallest ones, have you bought one that works?

I didn't use the mirror taps I had the same problem 2 I tries I couldn't get them to slid in I ended up using wire taps on the wire was much easier. I even made it so i had an extra power wire available so that if I add a camera at some point the power and ground is ready don't have to tap again.

This is what I used https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075L586QP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Yeah, unfortunately I'm 100% not interested in cutting into any wires. It's either going to be a working fuse tap or mirrortap for me.

Thanks for the info, though.

It only puts a small hole in the wire. I'm like you and am against it too but It's better the running a wire to a fuse not meant to be there IMO. It can be removed and you won't even know it was there. Same for the JB4 and the fuel wires that use a Posi Tap.

At least with running fuses, they're easily removable and don't modify existing wiring, physically.

Problem solved though, the interior lamp 10A fuse is switched with car off + doors locked. This actually works out better, I put the dashcam on that fuse, and the radar on the 20A power outlet fuse. All is working as expected.

I hope this helps...

My connector is different from the ones shown here. Here is the connector from my 2018 Stinger GT2. I used a mirror mount for my Uniden R3 radar detector. I placed the wiretap about an inch back from the connector. There is plenty of room under the little cover for them. The wire simply runs out the bottom to the detector. The cover over the connector pops off easily with a credit card.

Karl,

Can you tell me which two wires you tapped into? My harness is the same as yours as for some reason I can't find a harness diagram for this set up. Trying to use my cheapo multimeter but it's a PITA. Hoping to get a shortcut.

What would be a good mount for a r3? Have been using it with the cord shown in all its glory but looking for a better location.
