I had a mechanic suggest a moly additive (Cera Tec) right after we bought the car with 15k and I decided to not do this because the additive can
darken the oil and add that film that looks milky. According to this guy, it has kept his turbo charged Mercedes going for over
200k. I declined due to the lower mileage on this car thinking that regular oil changes would be fine. Maybe that what you are seeing.
Besides, you would probably see oil in the coolant as well and weird white smoke tail emissions.
