3.3T Turbo Oil Feed Line Recall 2024

Did you ever get the recall? I have a 2023? Haven’t gotten it yet.
Doesn’t impact the 2023. They revised the part before that model year.
 
I finally got annoyed enough to look and found that step 23 wasn't done correctly. The bolt used to attach the brake vacuum pipe to the bracket on the water pipe was never reinstalled. :rolleyes: As a result, that brake vacuum pipe has a tonnn of play and I'm hoping once that's addressed my rattle goes away. I went to the same dealer, different advisor yesterday looking for just the bolt to handle this on my own. The tech that did my recall no longer works there. :thumbup: I wonder why.

The service advisor went and grabbed a tech that came out and visually confirmed my issue, wanted to make it right and said he would fix it and go over everything if I would let him. So, I scheduled another appointment for July 1. Obviously, there's apprehension on my part to follow through with this, but, with a total of (7) things not done right (that I know of) on my recall job who knows if the replacement pipe was even installed right. I feel somewhat optimistic a different tech wants the job and stated he will do it correctly to fix my issue and go through the prior tech's repair.View attachment 90982

TL;DR: Step 23 being done wrong was not the cause of my rattle. However, the tech did get the missing bolt in, and, found another missing bolt from the original tech. So I believe that is a total of 9 things that weren’t reinstalled correctly or just outright left off of the vehicle.

To follow up, my dealer had my car for a week and a half. Fixing step 23 of the recall did not solve my rattle. On day of pickup, I did a quick test drive and the rattle was still there so I returned it right to service. I delivered the bad news to my advisor and she grabbed her husband who is also a tech (tech 3) so he and I talked, then the 3 of us went on a test drive. He was able to reproduce the rattle with both him and my advisor hearing it. We then went back to the service bays and he could reproduce it by simply brake torquing the car. My advisor put me back in my loaner and I left the car there. Couple days go by and I get an update in the form of a video from tech 2 that fixed step 23. He and my advisor’s husband worked on the car off and on and found that a drywall screw had somehow found its way between one of the rear cats and heat shields. This is why it sounded exactly like a heat shield rattle because the screw would vibrate when the motor was under load at low rpms. I had assumed the rattle was from the original tech not doing something right considering the rattle started after the recall work and given all the shit he did wrong I was right to assume that. However, appears it was just a freak chain of events and timing. Props to the 2 techs after that stayed persistent and kept digging to find the problem and resolve it.

"Drywall screw"? WTH? I can't even see what he's describing. But if the noise is gone, great, that's all that matters.

I'd show you but the turbo ad settings are saying I'd need 91 clear page views with shields down, lol.

Pause the video at 0:35, and draw a line straight up from the "yw" in drywall to just past center frame. You can see the threads of the screw resting just above the left exhaust pipe and below the heat shield.

Don't know but the tech that handled my recall was beyond incompetent. So much so, that on his last day he hit one of the service bay rollup doors in his personal car, shattering several panes of glass. Honestly, I wouldn't put it past him to have left me an easter egg to deal with and find just to be a pita. Afterall, screws are typically found in tires, not wedged in-between two rigid pieces of metal.
 
in theory that could have also been kicked up from the road. I would hope a "professional" shop wouldn't have drywall screws lying around to use on a vehicle.

No doubt and that’s more than likely what happened. I’m just salty & bitching about my overall poor experience with the recall, except for the 2 techs that gave a damn to keep digging until they found and fixed the issue.
 
That erstwhile KIA "tech" was probably feeling "salty and bitching" and provided his own drywall screw with malice aforethought. How could a screw on the road flip up to the middle of the undercarriage like that? One in a million chance. Salty, bitching service shop employees, however, more than one in a hundred. The clincher is the timing. No rattle before the recall "service", drive away with a rattle?

never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence or something else. You'll live much longer that way.
