Would the "K&N RG-1001RD" filter work any better since it has the additional top cone?
They're about the same price here in Canada ($40->$45 CAD)

Those considering this, if you've not test-removed the passenger side airbox yet, you might do so. The rubber piping that runs from the new, Spectre 90 degree elbow to the turbo is corrugated, for lack of a better term. It "flops" around a bit. Putting the elbow and a fancy filter on it is going to need some support sooner rather than later, IMHO.

That's the existing pipe from the stock air box. Just the chrome pipe is added.
The stop pipe is rotated (optional) to face forward, or can remain sideways like in the original post and have no impact on that monitor hose.
Unless I'm looking at the wrong hose, which is very possible and highly likely.

Can someone confirm these are the correct elbows.

I’m 99% sure that’s just a warning not to use it for turbo or supercharger connections. They wouldn’t be able to withstand the high boost pressure directly from a turbo, but they are made for intake piping. They’re specifically designed for intake connections and are intended to be used under the hood. Heat shouldn’t be a factor and if you’re concerned just use a insulated heat shield like I did.

This is a great alternative if you prefer K&N, but it looks exactly the same as the Spectre version we’re using. It also has the additional top cone leading into the filter so it draws air from the top and sides. Actually, this is another reason I chose the Spectre over the standard K&N. More filter media and air from multiple directions means much more airflow!

Agreed and another reason why I didn’t reinstall my intakes until I got the perfect brackets. I also used the stock airbox mount & screw so it was an easy install.

I’m not sure where you can mount brackets using the 90 elbow, but hopefully they can find somewhere. Good luck all and keep up the good work!

Did you not buy the 90 degree elbows? Can you show me a pic of what you did?

Lol. I’m the OP and suggest reading the whole thread. Lots of helpful information with my pics and videos starting at post #1.

You can see I chose the straight intake pipe(3”x2”) so I could use the stock mounts for my brackets. That also made it easy to wrap the heat shielding below & around the filters.

The elbow intake is a different DIY version and we’re all just brainstorming ideas so that one works well too.

@Sabz Slightly off topic, but I was told by Kia that they are recalling both Yellow and Blue soon globally... They have pulled the blue off the lots apparently

Yea I have a yellow one... hopefully the extra cash they give me will go to some mods

Can you post this over on the paint thread to keep this DIY intake thread on topic? Plus super interested to hear more. There was a stop sale on Blue two months back but it only lasted a week if that.

Someone should fabricate a nice bracket to work with this DIY setup and sell for $20. Very nice setup for the $. Same for some simple shielding. Could have a mostly enclosed quality intake for 150-175$. The DIY kit.
