Great work and congratulations !! I think it looks great !!

Did this mod a few weeks back and it was super easy. Took me about 30 mins to get it done. I went with 90-degree pipes to angle the filters forward, mainly for looks. I might try doing some kind of heat shielding in the future but I'm not too worried about it right now. Loving being able to hear the turbos spool up!

This is the exact thing I was thinking of doing, the K&N Typhoon is well overpriced and I seriously don't see any benefit from the half ass'd attempt of heat shielding they did... given the cold air flow comes in at the front of the cone, I think this will get as much cold air as any setup other than a fully sealed box, but then correct me if I am wrong, but that then causes air flow restrictions...

Looks like you save me a whole bunch of R&D :geek:

@Angel yeah it’s the 3” 90-degree spectre elbows and filters #8136. Total was about $100.
Part numbers for the filters? I'm more interested in their size, but I can look that up once I have the part number. Thanks!

Yes, shorter. And I'm not a big Spectre fan so looking at the dimensions.
They are alot cheaper than K&N and offer the same performance on the filter itself from what I can see... Just need to do a little homework and DIY to make it fit

The K&N and all other intakes out right now are significantly more expensive for very similar results.

However I will admit that creating a heat shield barrier between the engine and the filters made a big difference itself.:thumbup:Without the shielding the filters actually get hot and you experience a little “heat soaking” after multiple hard runs. Now with the insulation they & the air surrounding the filters stay ALOT cooler! The shielding isn’t necessary, but well worth the extra $20.

And yes the sealed OEM box and 2x3 air inlet is undoubtedly more restrictive than open air cone filters. Top CAIs like JTs add larger ducting up front, but believe they may still use the same 2x3 air inlet pass through. Im sure it would have more much airflow than the stock sealed intake, but also cost $700+.

Just a little more R&D I did myself and hope it helps!

Thanks for the compliments! So glad they’re a few more DIY’ers like me out there that enjoy using a little elbow grease over spending extra money. Great job again on your video and happy tuning all!

I live in Texas... We don't get cold air most of the year
But if I feel any loss, I'll make an enclosure out of something... Dunno what yet ‍♂️

Thank you sir !!! I gave you a shout out on the video LOL I also brought up the cardboard hahahaah...thanks everyone and if you want to be cheaper you can buy the elbow online at walmart.com for 10 bucks each and get some filter on ebay for 15 bucks each so can do this for 60 bucks....

I understand and the same here in SFL. However, the hot air you want to avoid and can prevent with the thermal heat shielding is the 150-200 degree air radiating off the turbo & engine.;) As long as you make a insulated barrier between the engine and filters you shouldn’t notice any losses due to hot air.

Saw that and appreciate the shout out! Also gotta love the cardboard & separate “hot air intake” comments:p, but as they say “haters gonna hate”. No offense to anyone who isn’t badmouthing our ideas, but some people are obviously jealous that they have to spend 4-12 times the money for the same results!

Oh well, we tried to help and all I can say is great job DIY Stinger team!:D

Good point StungBlue
Guess I may have to continue the R&D a little more
