Kia Stinger - Australia discussions (pre-release)

Auto /remote start is not push button start.

Unfortunately we are not getting auto /remote start.

MADMAN check out GOOGLE for Kia remote start, Optima has it too... and wuite a few other videos.
FOR the BMW it apparently costs well over, $1000 or $2000 been told by a friend as an option on his BMW 118i
As for the STINGER GT, we'll know when we get into it, but the brochure does say under the SECURITY and as you highlighted it implies it is on the remote key!
Like I mentioned there was a video clip here somewhere can't find it, but clearly shows he is starting the car with his remote, oustside of the car.
Think he is speaking Arabic! Don't know which country though! If I find it will post it.

Don't want to pry, curious, but come much did the Insurance cost through SHANNONS, (Marco-Oz and Anthony)?

A lot more than I'd hoped but it's a means to getting the car at the moment so I'm jumping on it, a little north of $2K.
Once the other companies are on board i'm sure the prices will be more competitive.

For comparison I also got online quotes for the following cars from Budget Direct (all 2017);
SSV Redline $1,052
Passat R Line Wagon $980
C43 AMG $1,850

So the price is high (very high), although expensive, I have to say Shannons insurance is A+

Terra, it clearly says SMART KEY with PUSH BUTTON START.

I don't think the SMART KEY means the the START STOP button on the dashboard!

I Could be wrong, maybe us here OZ not getting it!

MARCO, I agree I have been with SHANNONS for about 5 years.
They are A+ agreed. Pay monthly it works out the same, unlike other insurers.
FYI, Had A Mitsubishi LANCER MR, wait for it ...20yrs old. Had a smash 2months ago, write OFF! within a 2 weeks, finalised everything and paid out the agreed value.
Which was more than the market value or even if had sold it privately.
Had paint protection put on when I bought it. I can categorically say it was worth it, it looked very good till it's dying day!
Brings me to my next Point to all, protection Exterior & Interior; your thoughts and suggestions and/or recommendations for someone here in Sydney:
Ceramic Pro +, OMNI COAT, PROTEKTIV, or nothing!

I'm definitely interested in the Ceramic coating as well if any one has recommendations in Melbourne?

Smart key/Push button start definitely refers to the fact the key opens the doors without a key and it has push button start on the dash. Not the same thing as remote start. My Kia optima says the exact same thing and it doesn't have remote start.

Just saw the first Stinger gt in NZ at a dealer. Was not able I drive it. To be honest, a little underwhelmed. I’ve seen every pic and read every comment under the sun in the last 9 months so I’m not sure what I expected. Nothing was wrong with it, but it didn’t really have the ‘wow’ factor. I think I will still go through with my order as there aren’t a lot of alternatives at that price point.

Anyone else had a similar experience at first sight?

Thanks but it wasn't me that originally asked - I was just pointing out the (lack of) reference to it in the brochure. Not sure I'd use it even if we did get it. Had a BMW once where, if you held down the unlock button all the windows and the sunroof opened.....handy a few times a year on really hot days but a bit of a gimmick IMHO.

Oh, mine is just under $1900, insurance that is.
Yes, it's expensive but a piece of mind!

About what I was expecting.....sh!t dear but it is what it is.....

That's because it's not the deep chroma blue one :p

Hi Skyguy,

I test drove the first demo in Perth this morning and therein lies the difference in our first impressions. Jamie from the Wangara dealership who has also been posting on this forum was good enough to find a quiet back road to demo the launch control feature and that's about all you will need to be hooked. The car is the real deal and it also probably didn't help that you were looking at the yellow paint in poor showroom lighting, whereas the black today looked phenomenal in any conditions. All light colour metallic paints only come to life when the car is in direct sunlight.

I couldn't be happier with the car fulfilling my expectations in terms of performance, finish and style. I was concerned that it would present somewhat chunky in the flesh but it had the elegant and slender low profile sportback shape I was hoping for and the passenger comfort level really seals the deal. This is just what I have been seeking personally as the likes of a V8 Holden or Ford sedan or wagon don't interest me whatsoever hence I don't expect this car will excite those buyers in the same way it did for me. You can clearly see so much of its design and development was done in Germany by Germans and the buyer demographic they have primarily targeted with this car. It was quiet and refined on the road when cruising and when you did put your foot down their was a good growl to remind you of the beast under the hood even without the bi-modal exhaust. If part of that growl was artificially produced through the Active Sound Design system it sure had me fooled as there was nothing fake sounding about it confirming that for my liking the exhaust option is not warranted but I'm sure others will have a different opinion. I'm just glad its not a standard option that I'm forced to pay for.

I was always going down the path of a European brand prior to the Stinger hitting my radar and if money was no object I would actually be buying the likes of an Audi S5 but by the time you option it to match the Stinger specs it would literally be double the price so this is the Gran Turismo for me.

I can also confirm
  • LED rear indicators ARE on the GT
  • it DOES have a space saver spare tyre that is a good size, not one of those horrible roller blade wheels
  • it does NOT have remote ignition start from the FOB key. Push button on the dash only.
See the pictures here:

That’s good the hear bruv. Yes i really don’t like the yellow. I ordered the Panthera Metal. We can get that colour in the top spec gt here. Cheers.

Panthera metal was my first choice as well, still makes no sense to not offer such a broadly appealing colour in Oz across all grades?

So Deep Chroma Blue and red leather for me coming in November.

Please PM for more information and for a test drive, booking up quick so test drives are by appointment only.
Hi Kia Wangara & Jamie, thanks so much for the test drive yesterday, I have been waiting to see this thing for months, the test drive was even better than I was expecting, I had a fpv f6 that was fast but the torque of the stinger is so good, hope my car gets here very soon.

Woops i think i pressed a negative icon on someones post? Sorry to whom ever, slip of finger. Anyway: Suncorp for me was as a daily drive $1,400 & infrequent driver eg. 2 days a week $1,100 Ive got 10 years up unblemished and im old ccccu....person 54. Can't talk more highly of Shannons. They talk the talk and walk the walk.

Hi im no authority on protective coatings but i was on a site listing the top 10 things you shouldn't get as extras and that was no.1. They also said check with the car manufacturer that it doesn't impede on the warranty. Personally i don't have an opinion.

Great little right up and question's answered Tazztattoo.

Wow the battery is still in the boot even with the spare.

Yeah, not a yellow fan either...

Thats the colour I originally wanted - for some f'ing reason we can't get that here.....WTF?? Maybe if I show my kiwi passport?

Anyway, I think I'm delighted with my second choice.
