Too much oil

What wrong with getting under the car and open up the drain plug? you can slowly back the drain plug out, until it is just barely loosen, let some oil out, and screw it back on. Other than maybe making a bit of a mess, there isn't anything catastrophic that could possibly happen.

The worse thing you could do is let out a bit too much oil. Well... fill it back up. How hard is that?

Nothing wrong with that method either. I’d just rather not have to life the car back up or risk spilling any oil when already done for the day.

Don't absolutely freak out, but yes you should have the level adjusted. The Stinger takes around 8 quarts of oil, so it can sometimes be easy to overfill with certain dealership setups. Are you able to post a picture of the dipstick with the oil level shown so I can get a better idea of how overfull it is?

The total capacity is over 8 quarts.

But only 7.29 is accessible during a standard oil + filter change.

I guess you could round this up to "almost 8"

Resurrecting this thread yet again due to the recall and the change in dipstick tube. I don't have the exact measurements, but Kia installed a new dip stick tube during the drivers side turbo oil feed line recall. I have noticed they used the OG cable dipstick yet there is a slight bend in the tube and I believe it to be slightly shorter.

I don't know if this will effect the reading a whole bunch but there is that potential so just take notice.-Josh

What makes you think the new dipstick tube it is shorter?

my 3.3 gets to the top of the full line with 6 quarts. twice now i've had to fight the service department after they've overfilled my oil even with me providing 5.5 quarts to them to fill up the engine with. They have done me the "favor" of topping it off with additional oil, and I've had to get under the car to partially drain. Anyone that says it is easy to drain just a .5 -.75 quart of oil out of a car hasn't tried it. This last time I had to drain 1.25 qts out. you have to sit under the car and hold the drain plug in place while it drips out, otherwise you get a shower of oil so fast there is no way to measure.

I have a topsider pump from my inboard boating days, and that has its advantages and drawbacks as well. but yes, if the oil is warmed up, this is the easier way to go.
