Went for my 1st oil change, checked once car on level ground and waited few hours and the oil is above full line, do I need to worry? Should I ask dealer to remove some oil?
Thanks for the input.

Don't absolutely freak out, but yes you should have the level adjusted. The Stinger takes around 8 quarts of oil, so it can sometimes be easy to overfill with certain dealership setups. Are you able to post a picture of the dipstick with the oil level shown so I can get a better idea of how overfull it is?

I'd certainly be asking them why the car has so much oil in it, yes.

Ok took the car to the dealer and put down the line from slight over the max now is below full line, oil closer to full line, much better, I know that too much oil can cause foaming of the oil and cause catastrophic damage. Thank you for your response. Will check oil before I leave the dealer every time from now on

Those damn orange dipsticks haha. After a clean wipe, is it wet above the H after sitting? It looks like it may be. If so it's still overfilled. If it's only overfull on that orange part and not the wire, it's around a half quart overfull. The H and L is generally a 1 quart range. Technically as long as the oil is filled to within that range it's at a safe level. Regardless, as a Kia Express Tech, I always try to keep it on the high side of that range.

If you wait for the engine to cool and sit all the oil will drain down and make it higher. I check oil when car is warm and right after I turn the car off.

In general, you need to go a fair bit higher than the full mark to cause issues, but really over-filling will result in the crankshaft sitting in oil, robbing power, frothing oil, etc.

Still, over-filling isn't good. The whole reason there is a gap between full and empty marks is to allow for oil fall back into the sump once the engine stops and cools down and oil drains out of the galleries and passages.

How does one easily view if frothing is occurring?

If dealerships are putting 8 quarts of oil in the car it will certainly be overfilled. The recommendation for the Stinger is 7.29.

I took 8 quarts of my own oil to dealership and the service guy put all in. At the time of payment I asked the guy at counter where's leftover? He checked oil level and it was above full, he adjusted the oil level.

Notice I didn't say it was exactly 8 quarts, I said around 8 quarts. I've done oil changes on hundreds of cars that took sometimes up to a half quart extra. Recommended at 7.29, which should usually get it nearly perfect. I've had to put over 7.5 to get it properly full on a couple of the Stinger GTs I've done. I just put in a full 7 bottles and top off from there. *shrug*

That's why you get a Fumoto - to easily drain off in small increments.. These things really should be standard on cars by now..

As far as you know is there any chances that the dealer was in a hurry and they did not drain all the old oil and that is why my stinger was overfilled?
