EK1Pro Tune - Sixth Element

I too have the Ek1, but have been a little disappointed with some of the comments here about the SXTH response and support. I have yet to purchase any of his tunes. I can tell you that you can definitely reach 11's with just a jb4, I have a strip verified 11.701 running a jb4, E30 and WMI along with a Lozic TCU for launch control. I had hoped to eventually be able to get into low 11's with a true ECU tune, hence the Ek1. However, the strip I used to go to (Sacramento Raceway Park) is now closed permanently, and the next nearest track is hours away, so I have not pursued any further improvements.
Do you have the BMS BEF now? My best so far is 11.8 but I'd like to see myself more in that ~11.3 range with my mods. The biggest thing holding me back is unfortunately the one thing I bought from SXTH.. the TCU tune. And it's to the point where I would have been better off just sticking with stock which is legitimately sad to me. (Just look at graph/log comparison Yves and I posted above if you haven't already)

I do have the BEF, but I did my 11.701 before I had the BEF. I find the BEF helped reduce the overboost I sometimes got.

Fully agree with everything stated here. I bought an OTS tune, didn't choose the custom option. And with OTS you figure it would be reliable, "safe", but not squeezing every possible HP out of your platform. I understand if you want every possible gain, go SXTH custom and pay extra.

But the off the shelf tune should at least be issue free imo. My experience hasn't been that.

If they sell Stinger tunes but they don't want to have to dial it in a bit to be "safe", they should offer a refund if it doesn't work reliably for you.

Just my opinion anyway.
I don't think that's an unfair statement at all. You purchased a product for a desired purpose/outcome and it's broken to the point that you can't even run it in your car reliably.

That would be like buying a TV and it only displays the color blue and the manufacturer going "yeah but it still turns on".

Oh OK my car has had the opposite problem historically but I also had a bad low pressure fuel pump for who knows how long so I'm interested to see what happens with an updated TCU tune and some possible Map 6 work with Terry.

Yeah, I hear you. Good luck with your efforts. Keep us posted.

BMS tcu shifts super crispy and quick under WOT so there's absolutely nothing to worry about how it shifts. Daily driving in sport mode is smooth too.

For launch it depends on your stock calibrations just as sxth TCU, some have more screwed up limiters and some are just having more fun. Some can do a full WOT and let go the brake launch just like brake snip while most of others can only do half throttle boost without brake snip. Seems like only a few to be lucky enough to be totally able to get rid of brake snip harness.

You don't need to worry about your quarter mile at all. After you get BMS TCU, 2psi on top of the boost you have now beside 3psi more for 5500rpm and 6000rpm can secure a low 11s for you easily. But still I would like to get my wastegate position checked before adding more boost.
Was there instructions somewhere on checking wastegate positioning? I know you touched on it in your first response but didn't know if there was a video or something detailing how to do it. Thanks again for all your help!

Just in case anyone hasn't had any experience with Terry.. I emailed him today, on Saturday, about adding my calibration ID for his TCU tune and he responded within a half hour... if you're on the fence about any of BMS's products, don't be.

just read the sensors like it's an OBD2 reader then you should be able to find both bank of wastages. Make sure your EK1 firmware is capable of clearing the adaptation values before that. Older version can't read both banks.

100%! I’ve been bugging him multiple times per day several times a weak. He always responds quickly and is pretty patient with my questions. I have his new TCU tune and the 85/19 BEF. Am going to put over 800 miles on them this weekend. So far so good!

Not surprising at all others have had the same experience! How's the TCU tune feel initial impressions wise? I'm excited to get mine flashed.

For anyone reading this thread and looking for opinions on SXTH tunes, I’d like to revise this previous post and say listen to the others here with their concerns. @Yves998 was spot on.

After I’ve had more time to drive it and feel out the cars characteristics post tune, I can confidently say I wish I went in a different direction.

I’ve had some little hiccups come up the last week or so that I’ve been told by shops locally were tune related, but SXTH seems to be saying it’s not. But the issues only exists with the SXTH tune applied. Stock ECU I don’t experience any of the issues.

Some of the responses by customer support seem like they are annoyed that I need questions answered or logs reviewed.

Which is a surprise considering how much money I’ve spent with them.

In hindsight I wish I went JB4 + BMS BEF. I wish I did more research prior to spending money on their tunes. Probably my next purchase and I’ll consider the SXTH tunes an expensive lesson learned.
They have so many screwed up limiters here and there and it will take time to figure that out. Most of us here with JB4 have a habbit of autolog even single full throttle and check it later. Hence the crashing limiters have nowhere to hide.

Yea and it doesn't seem like they want to take the time to dial it in. Every response I get seems like I am bothering them which isn't how it should be when I am trying to get them to fix something that is clearly wrong(in my shops opinion) with their tune. Its getting to the point where I may push for a refund due to them not delivering on their end of the transaction. I know they have a no refund policy but the product they are selling should be reliable/compliant if thats their stance.

Well I’m taking some notes as I make this trip, and then will send them to Terry. I can tell you that the combo TCU/BEF is almost a “set it and forget it” in other words if you want sport, flip the mode and you got it. If your cruising on the highway, flip to comfort and you got it. The entire profile changes. Sport is ferocious :)

Edit: I also did the first 230 miles in comfort mode, mostly Hwy and I was staying between 70-90 Mph. I averaged just south of 27 Mpg which is amazing I think considering my Mods and the tune.

Ok so I finally got my EK1 Lite updated so I can finally read the gauges on my car. What are the wastegates listed under so I am able to tell their position?

Ok so the BMS TCU tune is absolutely incredible. It actually increases the shift pressure (Sxth tune did not for me) and the car genuinely feels so much quicker due to the shift points and the car holding boost better through shifts.

Messing around a bit with Map 6.. attached a log, it's clean but definitely spiced up. Absolutely loving it though coupled with the BMS E85 Race BEF.

It really is great! Logs look clean! I’m running E45 on MAP 3 with the BEF/TCU tune and it’s already a beast. But, I need to bump up to E60, and then quit chasing all 0’s on my timing. I know I’m leaving power on the table.

My log is with ~E62 and it looks like my fuel system could probably handle a bit more but at least in Terry's opinion, there isn't any real power gains past E60.

I need to make a 1/4mi run and see what numbers look like. I was at 11.8 with the Sxth TCU and Map 5 which for me was peaking ~19psi. So I'm thinking I should have a pretty solid improvement. Even the launch is somehow better with the BMS TCU tune. I've never felt the car squat like it will now.

What settings to I need to change to try MAP6 on an E60 mix?

So if you look at my first post I also posted a screenshot of my "user adjustment" screen for my settings for Map 6. I'd bump all those down by one (ignore the .9s, for some reason my app doesn't like whole numbers so read it as if it were rounded up).

That's where I started based on Terry's recommendation but for my car it didn't make hardly any difference from Map 5 so he had me bump every value up by 1 which initiated face melting mode.

I'm referencing left column "Map 6 Boost" just to clarify. Match the other two columns that I have if they aren't matched already. I don't remember if that was pre-populated in there or not initially because it's been awhile since I first tried it.

Sorry if that was a muddy mess of information. Let me know if you need clarification.

Awesome that will get me started. I’ll take a look tonight. Thanks for the quick response. I’ve got a dyno scheduled for next week so I need to have her dialed in.
