Will you update?

Sounds like a gps sensor issue, I think its in the sharkfin. Is anything like ice on it.

So, I've got a 2019 GT II. <50K Mi. Concern with GPS/NAV. I plug in a destination and the map is displayed. I start driving and then suddenly the cursor has darts off towards infinity in search of the end of the universe. Would a simple update to the NAV fix this? If so, is it easy to do myself or go through the dealer?
I have read about someone who experienced those phantom screen presses, and they were remedied by the software update

I suspect you may also be able to resolve by just reinstalling the existing software if there is some reason you don't want to update your software for free.

I think it's more of a screen issue. It acts as if something is touching the screen.
I had it at some point but it just kind of disappeared on its own.
Maybe try to clean the screen really well?

So I think I mistakenly thought you meant the cursor that represents yourself, you mean the crosshairs that show when you move the screen around by touching it.
Other have complained about the ghost touches before and the screen going off on its own...do a search of the forum.
Not sure if they ever found a non hardware cause.

Yeah, I get the "ghost touches" at times. Seems most prominent when there are temperature differences between outside the car and inside the car, and the screen. I.e. Car was sitting in hot sun (California), get in, turn on A/C. I've started using a sunshade, and it seems to have helped.

You can get "back" when the screen wanders away, by pressing the "MAP" button, as many times as you like/must.

What possessed me to ignore my own advice? Yes, it was well over a year ago. But I figured since I do have the updater app on my computer, and it was offering an update, what could go wrong? I've updated the other car twice - but not for over a couple of years by now - and managed to muddle through each time and update. Not this evening, no sir. I put the updated stuff on the SD card from the 2019 Premium, and all I get no matter what is "check SD card", or, "insert SD card". The update won't even start. Damnation. I am downloading everything again. I'll just leave my computer on all night while this horribly slow download happens. Crap on all high tech nonsense in cars anyway. I don't need a functioning navigation. But things that don't work really annoy me and I won't be able to let it go.

edit to add, it might have something to do with the download version. I see now that the folder is named with "2018". The fresh, ongoing download is 2019-21. So, we'll see tomorrow. I am tentatively confident ...

final edit - it worked slick as can be. All updated in less than half an hour of driving. Interestingly the MPH indicator in the upper corner of the media screen is gone. And although I've only turned the car off once since updating, I believe the music fade is either gone or much shorter.

Talked to the map guys today, no update until June this year. April's release got pushed back in QA.

Would rather it be quality than get it before it’s ready.

Well, I took my 2019 GT2 to the dealer for the “ghost tap” issue. They looked into it and thought it was the result of a previously stored destination. They deleted it. This did not help the issue. I will consider cleaning the screen really well and consider the effect of temperature differences.
On a similar note, I’d like to inquire if anybody has had issues with their Apple car navigation. When I plug my phone in with a cable, the navigation starts out fine and then while I’m driving, it zooms in on the road so that the only thing I’m seeing is the road beneath me and none of the surrounding area. It’s like the camera is directly on my bumper and is focused on the gray pavement and lane lines beneath the car. ‍♂️♂️♂️ dealership tried to tell me that is the result of having a non-apple cord connecting the phone to the car. Thoughts.???

I’ll update everybody in a few weeks.

My thoughts, it's just more ghost taps, causing apple maps to zoom in.

I think you have one problem, ghost taps

The reason I talked to the map guys was because I let my UVO sub lapse (Canadian). I renewed it, but now when I push the button on the mirror it says I need to complete my subscription at myuvo.ca which I've done a million times. Navigating keeps popping up a window saying my subscription was updated. I called UVO and they resent subscription but it didn't help. Pin hole reset didn't help. They transferred me to the map guys but they dont help with subscription issues at all. They suggested I call uvo back and keep escalating. Before I do that, I'm gonna export my NAV destinations to USB and factory reset my HU to see if it helps.

Any other Canadians renew UVO after letting it lapse? Did/do you have this issue? I know its not common to hit the button on the mirror but my wife uses it.

Well let’s hope so! Thanks. I’ll keep you updated.

It seems each map release gets released, then pulled back a week later. Two - three weeks later, rereleased.

My 5 year free trial just expired..... But I'm too cheap to pay their overpriced monthly fee.
So, I am going with a remote starter for now... Exploring options.

I have had this exact problem. Apple Maps will zoom in super close so you can't see anything else. I think switching to the 3D view helps some, but now I'm more annoyed by something in the music (or a ghost) triggering Siri to listen for a command that I didn't start. And it will randomly disconnect.

I'd use Apple cables if they weren't so cheaply built and prone to cracking at the prong in such a short amount of time. Notice I didn't say they were cheap...

Had to stop using KIA nav since it would just randomly take off across the countryside and beep every second. It was as if I had been abducted by aliens and they were returning to their home base.

I have not done the nav update from last fall. I'll try this upcoming one. I'll mention it when I schedule my upcoming recall work, but I'm out of factory warranty. I did buy an extended warranty that should cover it, but that's only if they find anything wrong.

Thanks for the reply. I’m going to make sure I clean the screen really well to see if it has anything to do with it. Also going to pay attention to the temperature.

Keep us updated on your approach to correcting the problem.

The weirdest thing, in my opinion is the colors of the touchscreen are all blue/purple, but the instrument cluster is still white/red. So they look like they're made for different cars.

Oh, it did make Android Auto work WAY better, so that was a big win for me.
