Changed non-electronic shifter knob to Hyundai one

I feel like the odd man out asking after reading all this…. But how on earth do I get the damn thing off? I modded this whole car to low 11s and can’t swap the shift knob. Shoot me lol.

Anyone got better removal video?
Hahahaha! Ok maybe this will help. Its just a staight pull up towards the roof. Make sure the boot is not attached to the console when you pull it up. I put my knee on the passenger seat. Think of it as breaking a bolt free. Quick jerk as opposed to a steady pull. Need to be in neutral

Strange foreplay instructions…

Lol. Thanks man

both those comments help. So just squeeze left and right side and pull? Special tools?

Just dont hit yourself in the face. Mine came off relatively easy. What shift knob are you using?

Going from to to N Elantra or whatever it is. All these pages and no hints to get boot off? Ahhhhhh.

All,
This is my second shift knob replacement first stinger went smooth. Bought same kit same retailer. This time when shifter is pushed down and button is functional, the car says “shift to park” it is in parked and locked out. However the vehicle will shut down the engine but won’t exit the accessory ignition position.

After further investigation, I looked at both assemblies and stock shifter has a pin the rests in the shifter solenoid that’s perpendicular to the vehicle (left/right) which matches a U shape resting area in the solenoid. When looking at the N shifter that pin is parallel to vehicle (forward/backwards). Therefore this pin is 90 degrees off and causing the solenoid not to travel to its upmost position telling the vehicle it is not in park. Hard to believe but car recognizes the shift through gears, drives fine, and even locks and unlocks doors when moving from drive to park shifts.

Pulled N shifter and tested same thing with no shift knob and realized if solenoid isn’t fully up car will not shut down accessory mode. Leaving vehicle in on/accessory mode.

See photos….. share any thoughts and curious if anyone has the N shifter not installed if they can snap a photo that shows pin configuration?? Or if anyone else has experienced this issue?

Thanks,

And you're installing the N while the car is in neutral correct?

I’m not sure that is was in neutral when pushing knob down into locking position. I believe I had it in park!

Would that make a difference?

Interesting… I will try to install in neutral position.
Yea give that a shot first. I know with mine it was a little bit of a push to get it to seat.

Yeah, no luck I pushed it down pretty hard!
I would think the harder I force it down to more it will put pressure on the solenoid.

I wish i had more help for you, sorry. Only other thing would be is that the changed the configuration. Id need to pull mine off and look at it. I can tomorrow if you want? Wont be able till the afternoon though. 2pm or so.
