Hey guys,

I purchased my Kia Stinger December of last year and around the end of January start of February, my car started stuttering really hard on acceleration or my RPM's would shoot up, but my speed wouldn't really go anywhere (ie, 5000-6000 RPM but it would take like 5 seconds to go from 30-40 merging onto a highway).

I took it back to the dealership where I bought it and they looked at it for a week but couldn't replicate the issue. The did change the oil and there was a recall on two hoses that were leaking that they replaced. I took the car home and didn't have any issue with it for about a month. Now today, (March 14th), I leave for work and make a left hand turn out of my apartment complex and notice halfway through my turn that my car jerks really bad and almost stalls out. My initial thought was that it was my low gas, but I went to the station, filled up, then had the same issue happen again as I left. (I know it's not bad gas because I had just drive ~400 miles on that tank before the issue happened and then it happened again on a brand new tank)

It got worse, when merging onto the highway, the power issue came back and I couldn't get my car to get past 35-40 mph trying to merge onto the highway at 5000-6000 RPM. I've taken my car in 3 times now, and will be taking it a fourth in 2 weeks time. The technicians can't replicate the issue, but my fiancee has seen it and witnessed the stutter issue.

If anyone has any inkling of an idea of what the heck could be happening, it would be amazingly appreciated cause I don't want to have to get a lawyer for lemon law.

Ask the techs to have your spark plugs/coil checked. Have you tried catching it on video? It may be hard to do so but having something on video would help your case out should you decide to lemon this car.

Wow, so sorry to hear that about your Stinger! I'm glad nothing happened to endanger you, and I hope it's something fixable. Please keep us all posted!

It's hard to really catch it on video since I'm driving and my hands will naturally shake the camera. But I can try and catch the RPM issue on video if it comes up again. I forgot to mention, this only happens during my cold starts, but I wasn't trying to floor it in my left hand turn, nor any other time until I was coming up to merge onto the highway. I'm really starting to worry about this being a continual thing.

I’d call Kia Consumer Affairs and get them involved ASAP. I’d also consider contacting a lemon law attorney in your state.

Have them check the transmission fluid level

The did change the oil and there was a recall on two hoses that were leaking that they replaced.
I think I read they were leaking trans fluid.

Service needs to check the level - many current cars don't have dipsticks for the tranny.
No dipstick...it's a sealed unit. There are plugs on the side to check fluid level and change when necessary.

Owners Manual:
"Automatic transaxle fluid Automatic transaxle fluid should not be checked under normal usage conditions.
But in severe conditions, the fluid should be changed at an authorized Kia dealer in accordance to the scheduled maintenance at the beginning of this chapter."

Yes check your transmission. One of the recalls on the 2.0 I thought was a transmission hose. My 10 year old work van transmission finally went out and it did the same exact things your describing. Spike in Rpms and no go means the transmission is slipping. Get there ASAP. Could be a simple fill it up from loss fluid and your good to go. Wait too long and the transmission will go bad.

Sorry to hear that. well i think my Stinger is worst got it sunday night and went back in the morning to the dealer to give them the spare keys for my trade in, and while i was there might as well get the salesman who i got from to learn the features of the car. So we sat there for 30 minutes the car is running and after that i left the dealer lot, a few minutes later i hear a loud noise coming from the engine and then it stalled on me. I thought it was the battery but it's not called the road side assistance and have it towed back to the dealer. There all shocked to what happen to the car explained to them what happened and service director have it looked, came back next day they talk to me what happen that part of the engine broke and KIA don't want them to tear it down to fixed it. KIA well replace it with a new engine off the assembly line.

I got two hoses changed, but neither was the transmission hose. The lady in service from the dealership I got it from said there were no other recalls. I will tell them to check all of the above. It's been 1 month of good driving and then shit for the last 2. I'm getting very annoyed and Kia doesn't have the best customer service. I will be calling consumer affairs tomorrow for sure.

That is my only complaint about KIA is dealer service. My local dealer is the same way. It's like there assuming we're all out to get them and go on instant defense mode when you talk with them. Man I hope you get this fixed. This is not cool at all.

Look at the tsb thread. It'd the last one it refers to another 2.0 that had a fitting leaking transmission fluid and they replaced it. Has to do with the transmission warmer. Only on the 2.0 I guess.

Okay, I will make a phone call to my local dealer so I can get it changed on my day off tomorrow. I did notice that last night, when I left work and immediately shut off the Idle Stop Go function, I had no issues at all with acceleration. I'm going to try that again today because that seriously seems to me to be a main culprit in my engine function.

My Stinger (2 months old and only 1700 miles) is doing the exact same thing. Studdered Monday and Tuesday Mornings, called the dealer to get it in for service and when I went to drive it to the dealer that night after work I couldn't even get out of the parking lot it was studdering so much that I was afraid to drive it since the car couldn't even get out of its own way. Had it towed to the dealer and they find NOTHING wrong. They couldn't even make it happen again. But for the time being i get to drive a lovely Slow Blue Forte (looks like a blueberry)

Mine isn't to that point quite yet, but it's super noticeable. It started happening right around the same mileage as well then corrected itself for about a month before stuttering again. When I head to work today and turn off my idle stop go once the car is started, I will let you know if that corrects the problem or if it was just a one time thing I wanted to believe last night.

I hope they are doing more for you than just an engine swap.

If they haven’t already tell Your service manager you want to be referred to an Escalated Case Administer.

Sounds like an ignition/timing issue. I had a similar issue on a vehicle, turn out to be getting moisture in the distributor. We do not have a distributor, but I am guessing it is a problem in the electric ignition.

I went on a test drive today with the service manger and my idle stop was on the whole time still couldn’t get it to shutter. I don’t think that is it. Mine has been on and off this whole shutter time
