Stinger Brake Pads Replacement

I took the stock ones and trimmed them to fit the new pads I installed on the rear.

Vibration control/ anti squeal. FYI What Are Brake Pad Shims? (and Symptoms of Bad/Missing Shims) for a write up
The word "vibration" only appears in that link as a user comment...

The OEM pads have basically 2 shims. 1 stainless steel and another unknown to me material.

The stainless one - I doubt it does much to reduced the noise - but I am NOT a brake design engineer.

Post #8 here has a decent image of the 2 shims on the OEM pad

Squeal is vibration. Vibration is how sound is made.....

I'm not saying vibrating the wheel I mean vibration in general

I so entirely knew that was comming... Lol. As I clicked "post reply"

Yes of course sound is vibration.

People typically describe a brake vibration as something they feel

And a brake squeeal as something they hear.

The stainless shim has little or no effect on vibration. (As evidenced by the plethora of owners complaining about OEM brake pulsation) Perhaps it does help with sound though (squeal) - haven't heard anyone complain of OEM brake squeal.

As far as the powerstop pads, clunks, etc... I can atest that the braking power of these pads is as good or better than OEM, but without the residue/shake issue. They're not sold as track pads, so if looking for those definitely get the EBC. They are fairly cheap and seem to be readily available, so IMO they're a fine option.

I suspect the reason for the slight tolerance being allowed is what had been posted prior in this thread - it's a fairly common pad size. If true, then they're probably packaging this same pad design for many products/vehicles, which is how they keep costs down. Kia and/or Brembo are more likely the ones to blame here, especially since members have posted that there are other pads being sold that can also clunk, because Kia/Brembo are not making their brakes to exacting specs which is revealed when using non-OE parts. The pad manufacturers that are making custom parts (clunk-free) are doing so either passing on the cost to the consumer or selling a shit ton of them/volume, or dare I say maybe their pads are out of spec and it's a happy marriage of imperfection.

Just throwing out some alternative hypothesis, to demonstrate that we really don't know the complete story or picture. Nor should this 'clunk' issue be blown out of proportion. Whoops, too late.

Here is a little update on the Dynamic friction vs. OEM pads. The Brembo pads use 2 bonded shims, whereas the Dynamic friction (and likely other aftermarket pads) only use one. The shim wraps around the ends of the backing plate, which is the part that contacts the inside of the caliper. This results in roughly a 1.4mm difference in height. I did just get the EBC yellow stuff pads delivered, and measured to confirm that they are exactly the same dimensions as the Brembo oem pad.Dynamic friction pad.jpgOEM pad.jpgdynamic friction 1x shim.jpgBrembo 2x shim.jpg

he asked what the shim was for I answered. Lets not be pedantic about it.

Certainly looks like a kit.

I almost bought this exact "kit" but they were out of stock.

I went with the GiroDisc Magic pads 1001
Crazy is with my experience with the GiroDisc I actually get that clunk that’s people are referring to with the other brake brand. Makes me wonder if I just got a bad set or something.

Can confirm that the EBC offerings don't do this, they fit perfectly
The yellow pads? How is initial bite and how has brake dust been? GiroDisc I felt was good the first two months that’s when I started hearing the clunking sound and dust actually bad from my experience.

Yellow stuff's are some of my favorite pads, I've had them on several cars. Once they are bedded properly, the initial bite is very good, and they dust less than some other semi-metallics I have had in the past, but certainly more than any full ceramic pad. (Im not even entirely sure of the composition of these pads, but the certainly "feel" like semi-metallic). Once you get a little heat into them, they really come to life and stop very aggressively. Not to say that they are grabby or unpredictable, but just very positive and confident feeling.

This is good to know! I got the GiroDisc to get rid of the vibration from spurted driving with the OEM brake pads but came with a caveat with the clunking. But yellow stuff will definitely be my next purchase. I seen three other users that raved about them somewhere on here.

Yeah you won't be disappointed. They are a little pricier than some other aftermarket options, but worth it in my opinion

I have about 4000 km on my Stop Tech sport front pads and R1 rotors and have noticed recently when coming to a stop the breaks are very noisy, sound like worn brakes on disc especially when cold. Lots of pad material left, no vibration and no lack of stopping power. I reached out to Stop Tech and was told this is normal due to the compound of the pad material. Anyone else experience this?

Makes me wonder are there any brake pads for our cars that have zero issues what so ever.
