Kia Stinger Navigation Map Update

How many versions did you skip?

Is there anything new this version on the radio screen?
I do updates every time they are available. Never skipped a version. The last version showed the station on radio tubes with your presets along the bottom. This version show a big XM in the middle of the screen with the presets along the left side which you have to scroll through. To set a preset in the prior version, you pressed the star while on that station. Not sure how to do it on the new version.

My first and only time doing an update was last fall. Did it in accessory mode with a battery tender connected. Took about 20-30 min.

The newer cars use flash memory (probably the cheaper emmc type). Personally I'd take the sd card as that seems more robust and easily replaced if/when it breaks. I limit my updates to once a year. I will probably skip the fall update unless there's some worthwhile features added.

As for this update, I expect to apply it sometime in June. If there's no emergency updates or this update isn't pulled by then, it should be safe to proceed. My 2¢.

Just did the update.. Probably the 5th or 6th one I've done. The first one that didn't start the update automatically, I had to go through the menus to get the ball rolling. 20 minutes start to finish, the first 10 was just validating the update files.

Nothing really ground breaking unlike some of the earlier ones, but hey, a free update is a free update.

Does anyone know if the update will bring me back the option for the wireless phone charger? The current version does not show me that option.

There were previous threads about qi charger issues. A google search found this one, there may be others.

This is not going well. .:( I downloaded the update to "downloads", copied the folder and pasted it to the reformatted SD card. The car does not recognize anything, says, "check SD card". Also says, when I touch "update" to insert the media source or words to that effect. So, I have a thoroughly broken navigation and have not the first clue what to do differently than I already did, which worked FINE last year: I put the SD card in, started the car and it did the rest, I just selected things as instructed (did as I was told). Shyt.

^^Aren't you suppose to extract the contents of the download to the sd, not copy the download directly?

I would do a reformat and re-download and just do the steps again from the full download step. unless the actual system is bricked, you should be fine once you get a good download. You should NOT have to do any pasting or copying as the downloader tool should be putting everything on the SD Card as needed when you are downloading on your computer. IF there are issues with the SD card you can try purchasing a new 32 gb sd card and trying again.

on this step, select your SD Card rather than your hard drive location. it will still download to the hdd but do the copying of the necessary files for you and you do not need to do anything else 1651268002472.webp

Make sure your SD card is formatted FAT32.

Thanks. Yeah, I got in the way. Before I went through the lengthy download process, aaagain, I copied all the files inside the folder and pasted them outside the folder onto the SD card: put the SD card back in the car and started it, Voila! it performed the update flawlessly, and probably quicker than ever: I bet it only took a tad over twenty minutes.

The only hitch was that my cellphone was no longer paired. But when I went for a walk and started the car, everything was back in order: called my wife with the voice command, and she called me back and I answered with the phone button on the steering wheel.

What the heck is that "Black" option for map color? It's like perpetual night. What's the point?

For those with MY 22, did they bring the manual day/night/automatic option? What happens if you want a white map at night?

@merlin what's your internet service, smoke signals? Last update was around 30GB, took about 15 min to dl.

Glad you got it sorted!

DSL, land phone line: probably dirt slow by modern standards. I know that when I stay in a hotel/motel, my uploads to the Stinger Forum happen in a fraction of the time it takes at home, heh. It took around two hours or more to download the navigation update. There are others who have even slower Net service than I do. The size of the update folder I downloaded is 20.7 GB.

^^Ouch. I really am spoiled here.. Gig fiber (in both directions) for the last 4 years. Any slower than 100-200 mbps down is just evil these days. My friend in north CA lives in the middle of nowhere. Tried satellite but it was worse than dial up. Uses a hotspot now with an external antenna some 30 or 40' up. Still slow, but usable. Plan limits 150GB per month.

Two weeks in my usage

I already did my garmin updates (only ~8GB download). Those are a pain too. Takes forever to send it to the unit.

Updated via SD card to my 2020
GT2. My last update was from maybe early 2021? Weirdly, the map has been failing to load (initialize) from the SD card recently so I just pulled it and left it out and found out the screen that shows up is a climate and media screen! (attached). Used the same card, a SanDisk 32gb card, to load the update and so far no issues loading the maps and all my radio presets loaded (though initially with different names that updated once the station loaded) and my saved Bluetooth pairing and AA wireless dingle works fine. It didn't seem to allow updating to be done in the background. I do like the current UI design - it's kind of a mix of the pre-tube amp and the pre-purple design.

Hey, they put a digital MPH over the speed limit sign in the upper left corner on the Navigation screen. Now my wife won't have to ever again ask, "How fast were you going?" :D

The distance to approaching intersections/exits is still messed up, at least surface roads are: the offramp seemed right on, but so far the corners are there long before the countdown is finished. :(

^^This was a toggle in the nav settings in my initial firmware. They must of just brought that to the previous models. Btw, it's off by about 1-2 mph, same as the center dash read out and speedo.

Yep, that was a few versions ago.
