3.3TT Low Oil Pressure

Yes, i have seen that sensor was changed on another lambda engines without removing engine itself. It is placed behind some coolant pipe in between of the engine heads, according to manual. It seems like it is possible to get it from there using some kind of pliers. Actually i get here to investigate little bit about Stinger since i considered to buy one, and i'm really confused about how difficult it is to replace some parts which might have to require replacement if i stay with this car for more than 5 years. For example replacement of an AC compressor requires to remove front subframe.

This just happened to me took it into the dealer to check. Be prepared for this. It's not covered under warranty and the part is t Available anywhere in the US. So I was told. I also got hit with parts and labor of over 5grand wtf. Technician said my pressure was fine but a failing sensor.

Haven't had to use it yet. Knowing that i have it gives me piece of mind. So much tech in this car, something eventually is going to go.

I will explain more when I pick uo the vehicle on Tuesday. The dealer charge just to diagnose and check the oil pressure sensor will be about 1000 dollars. To replace the part and after all seals and gaskets they quoted me 5grand. I was like WTF. Now my drive train warranty expires at 100k. I'm currently 98k. But what they told me it's the oil pressure sensor is not covered. I will post once I get the breakdown. IM a littlebshocked right now.
Did you pickup your repaired car yet?

They said faulty oil sensor not covered. They will have to remove engine to replace. I had platinum extended and not covered. All vitals good with engine and oil sensor light just turned off after 2 weeks. Go figure.
 
You had the wrong size oil filter? - What's that all about?
Is the USA warranty for 60,000 miles? Is the issue that the vehicle has exceeded this threshold and the extended warranty doesn't have full coverage?

Did the issue literally correct itself, so this $938 was all for nothing? other than correcting the wrong size oil filter! (weird)

I honestly don't know how Kia is getting away with this Chit! If the car is still under the initial 60/100k warranty. Not fair at all.

What is covered between 60k and 100k?

Since the car has 98k at time of service.
 
I've attached the warranty booklet from my MY '22.

Refer to page 5. Basically, for original owners, between 60K and 100K (or after 5 yrs), power train cover engine internal mechanicals. Is an oil pressure switch (sensor) part of this group? Not really.

On page 23, there is an emissions warranty, but that's good through 80K miles only. Under the misc section of this subsection there's a line item, "All Sensor(Switches,Solenoid Valves, Battery) associated with the ECM". I would consider the oil pressure switch/sensor to be part of this group.

In the fine print on page 2 under Gold Plus, electrical, they do state "oil pressure sending unit". I would consider an oil pressure switch/sensor to be this part, or in the category of this part.

In the parts listed on the invoice, all I see are gaskets and an oil filter. Where is the oil pressure switch?

Also, the part about the wrong oil filter needs further explanation. Kind of hard to fit the wrong cartridge filter. For others, probably a good idea to keep using OE filters so they can't use this excuse should there be a problem.

It's not listed because it was not replaced - it was only externally inspected.

And install a correct size oil filter..... (VERY suspect) :eek:

I have had this on a couple of old VW/Audi in the past. Wrong oil filter caused excessive back pressure and low on the sensor side. Might not pertain to this problem but you never know. Especially if the there isn't a bypass in the pump. On old VW/Audi the bypass was built into the filter but crap filters like FRAM dont have one, hence the oil light.

I didn't have a Kia oil filter my oil changes never been an issue before. Always used high end oil filters. I drive alot and was due for an oil change that's when the light came on and stayed on. I assumed it was because it needed an oil change. The oils sensor I thought would be covered under warranty. But I also looked in the hand book and said nothing about oil sensors. They replaced the oil filter which is weired because I've had the dealer due oil changed even after I had done it at my friends mechanic shop who use the right oil filters and never been told it was the wrong one. Now I have driven it for 2 weeks and the light is no longer on.

I understand that issue with the bypass valve - but the Stinger 3.3 does not include a bypass valve in the filter - it's just an overpriced cartridge element - and nothing more.

Fram doesn't even make a cartridge oil filter for this engine!

Always used high end oil filters.

I bet you never make that mistake again. The light on the dash for oil is a low oil pressure light - Not a please change oil when convenient light.

They replaced the oil filter which is weired because I've had the dealer due oil changed even after I had done it at my friends mechanic shop who use the right oil filters and never been told it was the wrong one. Now I have driven it for 2 weeks and the light is no longer on.
During a regular oil change - the lube tech likely doesn't even look at the old filter. There would be no need for inspection. Could have been the wrong filter without causing anyone to question - especially if it's just a CM or 2 short.
What filters does your friends mechanic shop use? Are you sure it was correct?


I would love to know more about Kia's claim that the wrong size filter was used.... Wrong in what dimension?
Too long wont fit
Too short could exist - I guess this is theoretically possible
Too large diameter won't fit
