Contemplating Trading in the Stinger for an EV

Yep, they do. As you know, the Korean cars are out over there for about a year before we get them. It is on the E-GMP platform, same as IONIQ 5 and EV6 and it is the smallest of the 3 however, the sportiest.

Interesting if not gimmicky features. The EV6, Ioniq5, and GV60 should be good alternatives to the poor quality Teslas out there. Based off looks alone I'd choose the Hyundai over the Kia or Genesis.

I didn't even know Genesis made an EV. Is it built on the Ioniq 5/EV6 platform.
Yep...Genesis is the luxury version of this platform. The interior is a step above the Ioniq & EV6 & is beautiful. It also has facial recognition for opening the doors & fingerprint reader for starting the car, so no key necessary.

Yeah, they threw everything into the Genesis GV60, but space. It certainly has a lot of great features and performance. It is tight inside, like the GV70, can only imagine what a GV80 or purposed built EV for the G80 will bring. The current eG80 uses the same body as the regular G80, with a reduced interior space due to the lifting the floor to accommodate the battery pack. It might not appeal to taller people but I think they should bring it here as well.

$70K man that's cheap compared to one place that marked their EV6 up $25k before their list of fees, ending up around $80K and I think that one was a RWD version, in Florida. These idiot dealers are pulling the same old tricks. It's the only one available in the area so they feel justified in this. The cars tops out at $58K before incentives, not sure what other extra options the Launch Edition comes with but I'm sure it doesn't have the performance upgrade that the GT will come with so that $70K price seems like it is a dealer markup.

As far as acceleration, the EV6 is about .1 second off the Stinger's time, so it basically is the same. The Tesla argument is ridiculous, typical bad salesman, "hey, they have crap and my product is better." There should be a lot of EV charging points in the cities, it's the highway that I find is lacking in having options but that will be changing in the near future. We charge our e-tron mainly at home and use fast chargers when we go on long trips. Closer to the end of the year there will be a lot more choices for EV available on the market and those people with these crazy markup will end up stuck with those cars. Hang in there, if you don't need a car now, you can wait until things get better.
Yup, I am in no rush what so ever.

Actually it's fairly roomy inside due to the long wheelbase. It's also wider than the stinger so it'll be easier to get my 3 grandkids across the back seat. The flat floor helps too.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

I'm with you on this one. It would cost me $30k more for the top of the line EV6 compared to what I paid for my Stinger.

Tesla seem to be quietly improving their vehicles stateside. My buddy just got his last Friday, sold his 2018 Stinger at the end of last year after ordering the Tesla. So far he has found no fitment issues or paint mismatch. We both passed on Tesla in 2020 due to those issues. seems like things have gotten better.

Can confirm, my wife took delivery of her Model X and it's been excellent. I specifically went to delivery appt to look for issues and didn't find anything except the price bothered me

I was referring more to material quality than quality control. For cars priced in the "luxury car" segment their cars don't have luxury car quality. Tesla material quality is on par with econoboxes. Whenever I see their interiors I'm reminded of the bare-bones 2015 Chevy Malibu I was issued on recruiting duty.

Elon will tell you their interiors are "minimalistic" as cover to the obvious: they didn't want to spend any money designing the vinyl clad (sorry, "vegan leather") interior so they kept it as simple as possible and sold that simplicity as a feature. Then they stapled the big tablet to the dash in hopes that non-tech people will be so impressed by it that they wouldn't notice that their interior is like a top-spec Toyota Echo.

LOL! You were a a recruiter? Which branch? I had a Corsica back when I recruited for the Army, '92-'95, that thing was crap but it did the job. That is one vehicle I really disliked.

I'm with you on the material quality, I would have expected better for what they cost. The interior didn't feel premium, much less luxury. I told the guy at the Tesla place, there was no way I could give up my Stinger for a car that cost more but had lower build (paint mismatch, panel misalignment, interior fitment issues, etc.) quality, lower quality leather and equipment on the interior but also had a louder cabin. I am happy I went with the Audi e-tron. It might not have been built on an EV platform and the range isn't the best but it was worth what I got it for.

Three years for the Marine Corps (voluntold ). My Malibu was actually brand new. I picked it up from the RS with less than 10 miles on it but man it was about as bare-bones as a car could get. It barely had a radio. The infotainment screen was like 2x3 inches! You'd think it would have come with roll-up windows but I guess the MC splurged for the power window fleet model.

I've actually been looking at Teslas since making that post. Specifically the Model Y and 3. I'd love to have a <$60k car that does 0-60 in 3.1 to 3.5 seconds but I think that is the only appealing thing about them. Like, literally nothing else about the cars would make me happy.

The good old days! I think mine had roll up windows, lol!

Tesla's design is sparse and devoid of distractions however, with everything being in the screen, that brings about it's own set of issues if you need to operate things while driving. It might not be so for younger drivers but I know, I needed my reading glasses to see the screen to adjust things when I was on the test drive. That was one of the things that was concerning for long term ownership. Maybe with some test drives, I would get used to it but the other issues with the build quality stood out too much to trade in my 2019 Stinger, that was, in my mind, leagues above what Tesla had to offer, plus pay a higher price. That wasn't happening. The e-tron lease deal brought it closer to a loaded Stinger GT2 AWD price, without any discounts, that was more palatable. Doesn't have the speed of the Stinger but the comfort and quietness is fantastic!

The EV6 GT Line AWD has been getting a lot of praise for it's performance and has been touted as a competitor to Tesla and it's .1 seconds faster than the Stinger and tops out at $58K (if you can find a dealer not marking them up) before incentives. That is a good one to consider from the batch of new EVs coming out. The IONIQ 5 has a bigger cabin and a unique look but it seems the EV6 is the better drive and handling version while the IONIQ 5 has better range. I like the IONIQ 5's interior space and layout, didn't think I would but after getting to see them both at the LA auto show, that is the one I probably would end up with.

I really like the Ioniq 5. I could see it replacing my S5, IF they offered a performance version. It seems strange to me that Kia is making a GT version of the EV6 but we've heard nothing from Hyundai about doing the same with the Ioniq 5. You'd think it would be easy since they're essentially the same vehicle.

If you're reading this, Hyundai, I would spend $60k on an Ioniq 5-N that has the power train of the EV6 GT. If you build it I will come...well, you know what I mean.

LOL! They are probably waiting to get more sold here before they go that route. They have multiple EVs they are working on right now and one is probably going to be a sporty sedan. While Hyundai has the N-Line going, they seem to want to satisfy their core buyers first. KIA showed the EV6 GT but is still developing it. Could it be that they are waiting for a larger battery pack, more powerful and efficient motor or want to tweak it some more to get it to go faster and decrease the 0-60 time.

i believe there has been photos of n prototypes on the nurburgring, lower suspension, bigger brakes etc i'm sure hyundai is not gonna let their sister company have all the fun :D .

Also from peoples range tests on the standard models, it looks like the kia ev6 is slightly more efficient than the ioniq5 in kwh/mi.

You're right. The test mule looks okay. The renders look great (as they always do.)

The EV6 just doesn't do it for me. The rear end is a mess. I prefer a more traditional look--thats probably what turns me off about Tesla's interior.

Here's a render.

The render looks good for sure! They need some more colors for the IONIQ 5, I was hoping with these new EVs they would make more colors available.

The EV6 isn't as bad as photos make it look. I have seen it in person and I like the looks of it, just wished they had given it a higher roofline and a full glass roof like the IONIQ 5 or a panoramic one that opens.

yea, from what i read, the test mule isn't what it is going to look like since it's "undercover" and they just used the standard body/cladding.

Personally the rear of the ev6 does it for me, i love it, i don't much care for the front of the ev6 .. I love the ioniq5 as a whole exterior package though.. but prefer the interior of the ev6... All that said... Probably won't be looking at those, Waiting/wanting something like that genesis x concept ev (maybe a 4 door liftback like the stinger but styled like the x)... now that's the jam... :D Genesis X Concept Vehicle

Currently at the dealership for inspection. There is a black EV6 outside. That’s the first one I’ve ever seen in person and I have to say, it actually looks really good. Not as good as the stinger of course, and I’m not a fan of electric cars, but it really has a striking appearance

I think that's a Henry Ford/Elon Musk thing that is trickling over to other vehicles. Tesla charges $2500 just for a regular ole red paint job. I guess keeping the colors to a minimum helps them build more units faster. Looking on Autotrader, there are about 25 Ioniq 5s within 50 miles of me, and almost all of them are silver or black.
