Kia Stinger Rear Hatch Rattle

I fixed my rattle by adding two 1.5 mm thick rubbery pads I made myself between each of the hatch bumpers and the hatch.
Despite this success, I decided to have Kia service do their fix because of warranty concerns. The rattle was reduced but not eliminated by the dealer installation of the factory kit. I showed my pads to the Kia service guys and they installed one in addition to the factory spacer on each side. This has eliminated the rattle (so far).

Hey Jim or Bryan! Are your cars remaining rattle free yet? Want to do my own repair on it. Let me know.

Todd, my temporary repair with the field pad did work. The last time I took my car to the dealer they were able to repair it as well. I happily can say my car is rattle free.

Hatch rattle with my DIY two pad fix was 95+% gone and was much better than the stock factory fix. I ended up with the factory pad plus one of my DIY pads.

I really wanted to dislike the fact that you needed to do this, but I think that button gives you a bad rating. Instead, a thumbs-down emoji will have to do:

my dealer has done the factory fix then it came back he has it in again stuffed a tech in the truck and said it was rattling all way done the road so he put some kind of thick lube between the washers and after a week its back not as bad but still makes a noise getting a little sick of this!!!

I noticed this issue on my car on my last drive... Not looking forward to dealing with it but hey, nothing is perfect. I'll check the spare tire area first to make sure everything is tight, adjust the bump stops and see how it goes from there.

Hello guys,

I live in Seoul and I have been driving the stinger for over 7 months now.
Rattles have bothered me a lot for few months until I fixed them myself.
There are two types of rattles I have found annoying in this car.(otherwise very satisfied!)
The first type is the tailgate rattle.
It's only recently that Kia started fixing the cars for rattles with the new side stoppers.
Before, they would just test drive the car and adjust the height of the adjustable stoppers. (the ones on the door)
It does help a bit, but the rattles will not go away.
Interestingly, you guys came out with the same solutions as people in korean forums. :)

For the tailgate rattle, here is my fix using multiple layers of anti-noise(?) tape.

But now that they got replacements for the stoppers, don't bother and just get the new stoppers.

The second type of rattle is a little noise coming from the windows.
The reason seems to be the door sealings rubber not being soft enough.
Here, some owners have had Kia replace the door sealings, but it is not a standard operation as the cause is not obvious,
and you also have to duplicate the noises when test driving.
Having no time to argue with the Kia guys, I have found that one simple application of silicon spray did the job perfectly.

So if you ever get window rattles, try spraying a bit on the rubbers/plastics above each window (on the door side), and voila.

Thanks xot1, please keep us updated with any news from your Korean forum.

Very helpful.......

I haven’t expierenced this issue but I am a noise and sound expert and reading thru this thread my opinion if you want to DIY with a foam is to use one of two types of foam.

Closed cell neoprene foam
Or
Closed cell pvc foam

Both of these foams are typically available in a psa backing and the closed cell version will give durability and memory so it will expand back to its original shape which will always allow for maximum positive pressure between the two surfaces.

Dumb question, but how do you know for certain the rattling sound you hear is coming from the hatch? I have this low rattling sound that I usually drown out with mid volume music, but with mute on, it's there and sounds like it's coming from the front passenger side.

I'll get in touch with my dealer to find out about this TSB notice. I highly doubt they even know about it.

You just may have a different rattle...

Could you possibly provide a link to purchase the recommended products? Thanks.
