2018 GT2 15k, muffler delete only. Cylinder #6 misfire, had a crack in the sparkplug's ceramic. Dealer went head and replaced all 6 plugs and coilpacks to be on the safe side.

Sorry for the bump but...

2019 GT2 with 19,3xx miles. Cracked plug in cylinder 4. No modifications.

CEL came on twice in 3 weeks while accelerating onto the highway. At the dealer now.

So I have had my HKS in for a long ass time(over 30k miles). I have had no issues. Next week I am going to pull a plug or 2 and check on them. What should I be looking for on them for wear? I haven't had any missfires that I can feel, no codes ever.

My cylinder 6 went bad yesterday. Both plug and coil pack were replaced.

I’m on my third replacement. And all three were ok different cylinders.

Is there any consensus on the root cause of this problem? On my Bone Stock 2019 GT2 with ~20k miles (Clockworks previous car) cylinder 4 has blown 3 plugs now, dealer tested the coil this time and since it tested fine they said Kia didn't authorize them to replace it. So they swapped the coil with cylinder 6 to see if that changes anything. Also the car isn't throwing any codes which is odd.

The dealer said they opened a "tech-line" with Kia for further troubleshooting, seems like if this truly is a somewhat common issue they could do better than just treating the symptoms as they come up. My dealership doesn't seem to know anything beyond "plug is cracked so we replace it"

Also wondering if the coil could be fine and its just detonation killing the plugs.

I'm not wishing this on you, but I am almost hoping something happens on cylinder 6 now.

It's funny because when it happened to me the service writer acted super surprised and was like "That is so weird. I have never heard of this happening on a Stinger" all while I was thinking about this thread.

My brand new gt had 3 coils blow in 2k miles. Replaced all my plugs with hks and havnt had a problem.

Yeah I think I would prefer to have that happen too as it will point to the coil being the problem. Seems to be the norm with most dealerships as I had a trunk rubbing issue with my STI that even had a service bulletin out for the issue and had to find the service bulletin for them as they never heard of the problem and even after that they couldn't resolve it. Ended up asking them to put clear vinyl where it was hitting to solve the problem.

Yeah I have a buddy with a JB4 and the denso plugs on his 2020 Stinger, he has had zero issues. Thinking I will replace all the plugs but want to make sure the coil isn't bad first.

Hey all. I just traded my 18’ 2.0 for a new 21 gt2 and have 4 of the below plugs that I was planning on putting into the 2.0 with a jbl.

1. Can I use the same plugs for the gt? If so what should they be gapped to?
2. Is there any point to putting in the plugs right now if I’m not having any issues and don’t plan on getting a piggyback (yet)?

HKS 50003-M45XL M-Series Super Fire Racing Spark Plug

If you have a tune, 0.022-.024 is the proper gap. If stock, leave them be. I heard some Stingers misfire on stock plugs.

I think the GT needs M45IL, not XL:

Specifically sold for use with the Kia Stinger 3.3TT, G90, & G80 vehicles.

Kia Stinger 2.0T spark plugs found here: HKS M45XL Spark Plugs

(and the 45XL page says: for use with 2.0T only - for 3.3TT, go to 45IL.

Figured as much. Thanks!

Update on this: Cylinder 6 blew a plug now, so the blown plug "followed" the coil. My local Kia dealership still refuses to replace the coil, argued with the service manager for awhile. He claims if they don't have a code and if the coil "tests fine" Kia Motors America won't allow them to replace it. Seems like nonsense to me, so now have to go back and complain to corporate. Not sure if its the Dealership or Kia Motors dropping the ball here but its a bit ridiculous.

At this point planning on just fighting for them to reimburse the cost of me replacing the coil as continuing to leave my car for days at the dealership so they can do a 5 minute spark plug replacement is pointless.

If the problem followed the coil (which we assumed would happen) it should be a no brainer that the coil is the issue.

I don't understand why the dealer would take the stance they are. It makes no sense.

So much for a 10 year warranty. Kia is a POS.

I have heard people having issues with the stock plugs even without a tune (myself included). The problem is the factory plug gap being too large. Knock them down to 0.022-.024 as Chane mentioned above.
