There is a Kia software update program you can use. It walks you through the update process so that none of it is manual.
Might have stumbled onto it. First time I started the car, got the "not recognized" message (however it's worded); tried to find my way to the screen to start the update, and no joy. Came inside and looked at the tutorial on my laptop; went back out, started the car and got a query, do you want to update? Clicked yes, and everything was automatic after that.
Drove around (backing out without my reverse camera, in the dark, was a bit of a rush), and in c. twenty minutes NAV reset itself and I was following the nighttime map. Cool! I like it.
For one thing, the little marker where "you" are has more perspectives than just one slant: if you are using 700' the updated graphic gives you a more slanted, forward perspective, which results in more "heads up" to see what's coming: back out to half a mile and the view is more vertical but still 3D; also, you get the streets further out now; before, if you left 700' and went to quarter mile, the residential streets would disappear: now they stay visible.
The volume on the stereo is more granular: it starts well into the teens and sounds the same as "10" did before, so, each volume click changes it less, which is good.
Sirius XM was lit up in the media sources selection: hmm!? I guess they are giving me another three month trial? (I never availed myself before, but then, it wasn't in the queue before). Also, Bluetooth audio is lit up, but it says the device needs the app activated; before, when I'd get impatient and click USB before it had finished connecting, Bluetooth would be searching (and of course nothing there, because I don't listen to music through a cellphone); so, it's probably the same interface, it just looks different. Anyway, that's all I've got on changes.
Oh, I followed my nose to some relatively new streets and they were there on the update, so, that is encouraging.
