Intake Comparison

How could that possibly be considered a “Cold Air Intake”? The filter points back towards the engine and it appears that the “heat shielding” only protects it from getting the cold air through the factory inlet.

Am I missing something that isn’t visible in the picture? Is there a new cold air inlet that it utilizes. Perhaps something in the wheel well?

From that one picture it just looks like the perfect setup if you want to ingest as much hot air as possible.

Those cross braces get really hot too and they appear to go right next to the filter. I would be curious to see how this setup performs in real world acceleration tests. I am sure it flows air faster but I am not so sure that it really is a cold air intake.
The entire bottom sides and back are enclosed in a metal box , the factory air inlet from the grill feeds right into the box the box keeps the heat out

I just installed a Stillen intake. Took me 1.5-2 hrs. I’ve never installed an intake before and I’m slow lol. Not really any fitment issues just twisting and time consuming with screwing the filters in place. Self tapping screws suck and all 3 are somewhere on the guard underneath the car that I can’t get to lol. But ohh well. View attachment 52370
Can you take and post some more pictures of this Stillen setup? I am curious if it utilizes the stock intake tunnels through the front bumper. Does this air box seal to those factory intake channels?

Also have you installed snorkels on your car or did you leave the factory intake snorkels there?

Could you post a top down picture of this? I couldn’t see that from the picture that was posted. It still doesn’t seal the filter off, right? It just acts like a shield instead of totally isolating it from the engine bay like the factory box does?

OK, I see now. The picture below makes it clear how it is still utilizing the factory inlet. From the picture you showed it really looked like it was blocking it off.

I saw the same thing as you but after looking at the company web site is seems like the cold air inlet are still flowing to the "isolated" area. Still it does not seems to be the best option out there in term of isolation nor size of the filter.

***Edit just realize I was not reading the latest page and you did already figure that out...**********

It doesn't seal to the factory tunnels. You remove the tunnels that are in the engine bay side and bolt to the chassis at or next to those locations. I took as many photos I could of it. IMG_1198.webpIMG_1199.webpIMG_1200.webpIMG_1201.webpIMG_1202.webpIMG_1203.webpIMG_1204.webp

AEM has a very good design, seals the engine bay and uses the factory intake tunnel. With snorkels it could be considered a true cold air system.

So I removed my BMS intakes and figured I'd feel more low end torque after going back to the stock intake. It seems that any power advantage to running the oem intake on the low end is negligible if you run a throttle tuner with your aftermarket intake, because I felt no low end increase when going back to stock with my bms pedal tuner in place. So moral of the story is buy a throttle tuner with your intake because I think the only difference on the low end with this platform is related to throttle response.

I come from the land of GM, I wonder why can't we get something similar to this that's sealed from hot air?

I never understood why people say an aftermarket intake would produce less low end torque. Can someone explain that to me?

I honestly think that the best option for a stock Stinger is simply snorkels and a drop in K&N filter. I dropped .1 seconds in the quarter mile and gained over 1 mph with that simple $250 change.

However, I have lost the ability to use launch control now with my RWD Stinger. The torque at launch was noticeably greater on a cool day. It was so much different that launch control was useless even on a prepped track.

Even without launch control and TC turned on it still was .1 seconds faster with just the snorkels. It went slightly faster with the Snorkels and the Drop in Filter without launch control.

With an AWD stock car I think the snorkels and a drop in K&N would produce extremely noticeable differences in results for the quarter mile.

Honestly no idea why more designs like that arent available, the only one really similar to that design is the JT intake but it's very pricey because the Stinger requires 2 air boxes.
I feel like most of the intakes are already pricey for what they are. I know I'd be willing to pay a bit more for a more sealed type design.

I just removed my 90 piece off of the OE snorkel and felt a better throttle response so much that I detuned my pedal tuner one step

AEM or BMS? Asking for opinions of those who have these or have tried both.

I tried both, AEM. The IAT is cooler in stop and go traffic due to the almost sealed housing.
