I wouldn’t put 255 tires on an 8 inch wide rim if that is what you have. That isn’t a good idea. 8.5” wide rims is typically the minimum anyone would recommend for 255 wide tires.Hi everyone. Found some Michelin Alpin pilot snow tires in mint shape. Guy is asking $450 but might get to $400. Trouble is there are ( 2 ) 255/35R 18's and (2) 235/40R 18's. I don't think the 255's would work on my stock 18's correct? Also might not do well with the AWD. Uggh. Hate missing out on good deals for common sense!
I don’t totally agree here, 8.5s can have 275s no problem, we have 255 on 8.5 stock, even those have a little taper, 255 on 8 would be just fine, especially since these are 18” wheels.I wouldn’t put 255 tires on an 8 inch wide rim if that is what you have. You can put whatever tire you want on any wheel you see fit. However, that doesn’t mean someone is going to recommend it. I posted a link to a site that makes recommendations on what tires fit what wheels. Do you have anyone or site that recommends wider tires on an 8” wheel?I don’t totally agree here, 8.5s can have 275s no problem, we have 255 on 8.5 stock, even those have a little taper, 255 on 8 would be just fine, especially since these are 18” wheels.
plug in those dimensions on wheel-size.com, there should not be a problem there.
wheel-size doesn’t seem to recommend a 255 tire on an 18” rim unless it is at least 9” wide. Every site I have seen lists 8.5” as the minimum width for a 255 wide tire. Do you have anything that shows differently?I don’t totally agree here, 8.5s can have 275s no problem, we have 255 on 8.5 stock, even those have a little taper, 255 on 8 would be just fine, especially since these are 18” wheels.

On this forum? No, anyone who wants to go that wide just buys wider wheels, but on an 18" with that much sidewall, sure you can. It all depends on the wheel and tire combination. Offroaders will run 13.5" tires on 8" rims, there's enough sidewall. Most people choose a tire combination based on a few factors, and the width of the tread does not directly equiate to the width of the wheel, and is only one factor. I run 245/285 on 20's because that combination is identical diameter, and I chose to oversize by 2.6% to fill out my wheel wells. 255/295 and 265/305 are also matching diameters based on the sidewall for our ~26" tires.I checked the google spreadsheet and no one used anything over 255 on an 8.5” wide rim. In fact most people go down to a 245 on the front rims if they move up to 8.5” wide rims there. Can you give an example of someone who has used a tire wider than 255 on an 8.5” wide rim?
Also, the google spreadsheet has links to wheel-size.com for front and rear, stock and Eibach. I’ve got +35s, I’m 3mm closerShocked by how close a 32mm offset is on 20x9” to the front strut. Glad I didn’t go with 37mm. View attachment 51354
Do it! Send pics!how come nobody has some 18x11s on the car yet.. is there an actual reason because if not i'm doing it lol
19x9 +32 flush fit not touchy the brakesI’ve got +35s, I’m 3mm closerFor what it’s worth I think +32 to +30 is probably the right fit for 9” wheels on our cars.
