Burger Tuning JB4 for Kia Stinger!

Updated to m12 before these. THIS IS WHAT I WAS DREADING. Well at least the plug install was alot easier the built up to be.

Those are photos of logs. I'd need the CSV file for any useful analysis. Also if you need tech support emailing in is the quickest way to get it, send the logs and install photos to terry@burgertuning.com and I'll get back to you later today.

Just installed JB4 fuel wires and harnesses and mobile connect. Connected mobility perfect. Took a short drive map1 horrible backfires half to full throttle. Didnt even think it was possible to log. Switched to map 0 runs fine.
Changed plugs gapped to .022 purchased bms kit. Installed all wiring connected to phone and took short drive.

Did I forget anything? Was I supposed to do anything else? Does firmware need upgraded figured it came updated
Any help? Thanks Rob
Sure the connectors and fuel wires are attached correctly?

What did Terry say?

Just emailed install pics and very short logs because of backfires.

The data looks to me like electrical feedback through the ignition system triggering the JB4's brown out protection. Seen a few more instances of this lately usually with the same circumstances. New plugs, new JB4, JB4 turns off mid run most maps. Did a little research and also noticed a few months ago we did change that setting on the JB4 side to be more sensitive, so probably a correlation. Although a perfectly functioning ignition system should send zero feedback down the clean sensor signals we may just need to accept this isn't a perfect ignition system. The good news is the only risk of damage is to the JB4 itself which we warranty anyway. Will try both lowering the safety and and disabling it all together on Rob's car to confirm.

Alternatively, I suggested he could rule out a faulty or loose plug by regapping his factory plugs down to 0.022" and install those. Not a fun project due to the labor so hopefully option A works better here.

I know some people are able to use map3 on just 93, but do you have any WOT logs showing no timing drops?

I believe so. Right before she went into winter storage I sent Terry some logs in Maps 0-3 to try and figure out a surging "issue." He said everything was looked fine but to update the firmware. Didn't really get to test afterwards since winter came quick.

I like these new stickers :ninja:
(not much of a sticker guy otherwise)

The car is misfiring crazy. Changed the spark plug on cylinder 3 and I seen that it had oil on it. One of my friends said I might need new piston rings because there was oil on the spark plug.

I changed all spark plugs just in case and I’m still misfiring and shaking crazy. I shake mostly when I hit the throttle.

Had someone else tell me it was a fuel issue, but I filled it up with 93 and nothing happened.

When I connect my JB4 to the car it shows it’s connected but it doesn’t display anything on the screen. Does anyone have any idea of what the cause of this is?

Did you try running the car on Map 0 to see if misfires?

Oil on plug is not ideal. I would do a compression test to see. Could be lots of stuff if oil on the plug....none of which I can think of is good.

Could be a variety of things. Make a thread in the support forum with more info if you want us to speculate as to what might be going on or what to try next.

Where could I find the support forum?

I’m also being told that it is most likely a bad ignition coil or a bad valve cover gasket. Is there any truth to that.

I guess that's the IOS version of the app? Looks a bit different than Android. In any case, when I had those symptoms (not showing anything), it was because I had plugged the OBD-2 connector (at the jb4 end) in incorrectly. Terry says it is indexed, and it is, but it IS still possible to put that connector on incorrectly and think you did it right. Double-check that. I never tried to drive it like that, so I don't know if it would result in shaking, etc..

It was working fine until the check engine light popped up, I tried to read the code but it said Invalid something. It says it’s connected because it gives me the option to disconnect. What can cause that to happen though?

Is it safe to drive the car while it's misfiring?

I wouldn't until you sort out what is going on. If something is damaged like a fuel injector, might make the problem worse.
