2.0T Community Thread

Hello guys, glad to have found you! For now I am just lurking around, checking out forums and opinions on how to proceed. I have driven a 1995 BMW 525i for the past 2.5 years and while it has been a lot of fun, it has also had its fair share of repairs and expenses associated with it... I am looking to replace it in the not so distant future with something that is equally fun to drive, offers good comfort and better reliability. Stinger 2.0 is probably the leading contender in my book due to the good list of standard features, the 7-year warranty we get in Europe and, of course, the price. I also love the practicality of the hatchback styling. Other contenders are the BMW G20 320i and the base Lexus IS (though both are notably more expensive than the Stinger).

Quality issues are one thing that often comes up in my conversations with other people regarding this car, although most of those people have never even owned a Stinger. I would appreciate any actual 2.0 owners here willing to chime in with their opinion on the build quality of these cars (drivetrain issues, paint quality, sunroof nightmares?).

My 2.0 is coming up to 2 months old so probably not old enough to give a good appraisal but all I can say is I always take the long way round just to have longer in the car, it is that nice to drive. I haven’t experienced any issues so far.

The quality is reasonable enough for me, considering the price point and the list of standard features. Having said that, I sort of tell where Kia (or maybe just the Stinger) lacks polish. The drive train is great, responsive, but it's juuuust sluggish enough to be noticeable. This is fine and all when I'm in eco/comfort mode, but it happens in sport mode too. I push the throttle all the way in and there's about a millisecond before the car wakes up and leaps forwards. I don't think it's turbo lag either, my previous car was a 1.4 turbo manual and I know what it feels like.

Interior wise I'm completely happy with the fit and finish, and I haven't had any paint issues. I also don't have a sunroof

Have a 2018 Premium 2.0 without any issues after one year. All the options you could get at the time. Very happy with it.

I'm now at 32.000 km with mine (9 months). No issues and super fun to drive!
However, if you ignore the 15K EUR difference to a 3 series, I'm sure that one is better in terms of interior quality.

I got my 2019 2.0T last march. I absolutely love it. I love the subtle body style. It stands out without having to scream"hey look at me" if that makes any sense.
I have have added about 4k in mods to the car as well. Michelin Pilot tires staggered 245/255. Tinted the windows, added JB4 and the Typhoon cold air intake. Changed the badges. For me it has become a hobby. The car really moves and handles well since adding the performance tires and JB4.
My next mod will be the inter cooler system.
Have fun and be safe.

Drivetrain and sunroof issues won't be 2.0t specific.

As far as sunroof nightmares, some of us are dealing with some annoying rattles.

You can read more about it here:

Concerns - Popping/Creaking Noise from Sunroof

And here (this one has a poll with 52% of respondents reporting sunroof noise):

Is your sunroof noisy AND loose?

I have been driving my 2019 2.0T since March. After 3k miles with no mods, I added performance tires (Michelin Pilots-staggered 245/255) the Typhoon coldair intake and the JB4. OMG what a difference. My stinger, while looking amazing, felt a little "plain jane" driving it. Adding the tires, intake and tune completely changed the driving experience. I added a sub and amp as well so now I look forward to my daily drive! I am in Atlanta so there is traffic WHERE EVER I go but if given a little space ,like coming home fro a braves game at night, I open it up a little on the hwy.
Thinking about adding the inter cooler system and pedal tuner but I have to chill for a bit because wifey has been getting on me about my spending on the car.

I hear ya about wifey! I wish I could source parts locally so I could pay cash. Hard to hide CC purchases and shipping to the apartment is a dead give away. It's been a month or so since my last mod getting a little itchy to pull the trigger on something!

What do you got so far?

Sounds like we have very similar cars!

Also bought my ‘19 2.0 in March. I am almost entirely stock in terms of appearance. Stock tires, wheels, badges, etc.. I haven’t even tinted the windows, although I think I will do that eventually. I like the idea of being a true sleeper... the car certainly turns heads on its own, but it doesn’t appear to be a heavily modified car at all.

All my money has gone to performance so far: K&N Typhoon w/ Velossa Tech intake, JB4 w/ bluetooth, HKS plugs, BMS Pedal Tuner, Maintec FMIC, and Jun BL EVC Catback exhaust.

Sounds like you’ve done your research with mentioning paint quality and the odd sounds/rattles that pop up here and there. I’ve not heard many stories of drivetrain issues though, especially if you’re going to keep that stock.

I think the general consensus from the Stinger community is, for the money, dollar for dollar, you can’t buy a better luxury sports sedan. In the very same breath, I completely agree with, “you get what you pay for”.

If you want something with no issues at all, pay the premium for the more established luxury brands, but even then I find it hard to believe you’d never run into issues. I think the main difference would be the quality of service you’d get from one of those dealerships vs a Kia dealership. But, you’re also paying for that with the cost of service and the sticker price of the car itself. So again, you get what you pay for.

If I had a blossoming money tree out back, I’d probably be driving an M6, but that’s just not reality for my family situation. So for what I paid, I couldn’t be happier with my Stinger.

Awsome. I need to add that big mouth velosa intake to my typhoon to get the most out of it.
That catback though!! Nice. Bet your ride sounds sick!!!
FYI. With all that speed the michelin pilots will make a huge difference in your handling from the stock tires.

I’m up in CT, so I’ve got the AWD Stinger. No issues keeping traction even with the increased HP/TQ :)

And the catback is still in the box right now.. I’m having it professionally installed in a week and half. Tapping into the fuse box isn’t something I would feel comfortable doing myself. I can not wait... it’s like being 10 again on Christmas Eve... I can’t even sleep lol

Only mod I have installed so far is the K&N Intake.

Who put the link in for the air filter? I followed the link and I get filters for a dual intake. Duh, the 2.0 only has one. I called K&N to ask about the intake for a single turbo'd Stinger. They only have one which is a replacement for the existing filter in the air box. Seems to me that someone only wants to sell parts and is a little over anxious. Make sure your links point to the right part for the right car, please.

The site automatically changes those terms into links for the Stinger Store. Look at your own post... twice the word “intake” was changed into links to the BMS intake from the Stinger store.
