2.0T Community Thread

I just googled it... well I’m an idiot... guess who will be trying launch control tonight!

Don't forget to share how it goes!

The specs say "Select from 5 driving styles: fuel-saving ECO, dynamic performance (with Launch Control) SPORT, COMFORT, plus automatically adjustable SMART or create your own style CUSTOM."

They do not have a disclaimer that excludes the 2.0..

I meant more how the manual describes things that aren't necessarily in the car you have. Like "Dynamic Bending Light (if equipped)". Or "High Beam Assist (if equipped)". The manual definitely has that phrase all over it, so I was saying it may describe launch control, but that doesn't mean the car has it. Especially because the manual uses the 3.3's digital gauge for illustration, so it would be easy to think the 2.0 doesn't have it.

But it's moot anyway as I'm pretty sure all Stingers have it, whether or not it's stated. Mine does at any rate, but it's Canadian, so... yeah.

Well i certainly cant wait to try, and will keep everyone posted!

Did you friends get these figures with launching or just the regular step and go?

All Stingers have launch mode, even base 2.0's.

I got the best times with launch mode, but even with launch mode it's not very consistent. The Regular step on the gas and go approach has too much turbo lag even with a RaceChip and pedal tuner. Without launch mode you can also try the old brake launch by applying the brake hard then give it some gas to bring up the revs and build boost in the turbos and then release the brakes - with a tune this method causes too much wheel spin so it's just for show and not go.

I was just pointing out, kia.com doesn't say it's not on the 2.0 (but other features are excluded)..

.. and there you have it!

The JB4 doesn’t do much for the turbo lag, but the BMS pedal tuner is a god send. I highly recommend it.

And yes, with my lead foot, I don’t need a car that can push 150 mph... I would either end up dead or in jail. Or both!

My understanding is that the pedal tuner can't really fix turbo lag. It just tells the ECU you're asking for more throttle than your pedal position would otherwise indicate.

Yes you are probably right... I only pretend like I know what I’m talking about. :)

So I can confirm the 2.0 does have launch control and...
HO. LY. SHIT!

I just spun the wheels on a AWD car, which I didn’t think was possible.. and (different run) just did a sub 5.5 sec 0-60! And that’s WITH a drop in PSI shifting into 2nd gear..

Wow... all I can say is WOW!

I need to forget how to do that because I’m gonna need a new transmission at 20k miles with how fun that was...

Haha I'm not gonna pretend to understand what the photos are saying, but I'm guessing you like the Stinger even more now? I think the 2.0 is supposed to be 0-60 in 5.7s, so... You're doing better than that!

Hahahahaha! Told ya it had it. Good for you. Now show the wife and see if she says WTF again. I’ve never tried mine, only set the stage for it to know how to do it.

You have a JB4 correct?

2018 Kia Stinger 2.0T AWD Test | Review | Car and Driver

I think 6.1 is the fastest stock 0-60 that’s been done.. well maybe not the fastest but that’s the standard. So well over a half second faster, I’d say is a DRASTIC improvement... but yes, my god that was fun.

Haha she just rolls her eyes at me when I mention anything about the car, so I just keep my mouth shut now :lipsaresealed:

And yes to the JB4. This was on Map 2 with 93 Octane pump fuel. I can only imagine what it would do with an e85 mixture, but there aren’t any stations anywhere around me that sell it :(

FYI, according to Terry from BMS the 0-60 numbers from the JB4 are inaccurate and generally about .5 faster than the actual time.

Curious about something for you all with the 2.0t and JB4. Does anyone also have an Optima? If so, has anyone tried installing the JB4 onto it?

Well that sucks... I guess either way my “discovery” of launch control was a trip and took .3 seconds off my best time. I guess I need to get a draggy or a get to a track to really understand what I’ve got.

You should do it. Y'all could start a 0-60 and 1/4 mile thread (or post here) for the 2.0ts.

It would be pretty interesting to see what kind of difference the various mods make compared to stock.

We could but it won’t be me as I have no mods......none on the inside at least.

Yea I could try to do that. Only thing is I wouldn’t want to take each mod on and off to see the what the specific gains are for each mod. But I could do a “if you did all of these mods together, here is the performance improvement”

Just found the thread. I'm another 2.0 owner.

2019 StingerResized.webp

Like some others, I came from a 2.0 Optima (actually, TWO of them). I don't need the 3.3, even though I grew up on V8's and 4-bbl's and fast cars. All cars require a little time to get used to them, and when you get used to the 2.0 you'll find it has more "scoot" than you can generally use. I'm a "spirited" driver, and I can zip around as well as anyone else in town ... any more zip and I'll run up someone's tailpipe.

I guess my 2019 Premium has everything you can get on it. The only thing I miss from my Optima SXL days is the bird's eye view camera system. Damn, I miss that! I hate Kia for including that only on the GT 2. No mods and none planned. This is a leased vehicle and I don't want to put anything on it I'll just have to take off again. And again, the bird's eye view camera is the only thing I miss.

Welcome to the 2.0 club Mike! She’s a beauty! But of course I am partial to the black on black Stinger, as I’ve got one myself :)

And I agree, the 2.0 has plenty of zip, and if you add a few mods here and there, it can really haul ass. But I would
also agree, if you are leasing without the intention of buying, I would not put any mods on it either.

I too, came from a 2.0T before this, but I had a Sonata 2.0T Limited (of course black on black... I bet you are sensing a theme). I’ve never had a 360 view camera but I love the idea of it. Too bad it wasn’t an option for us.

Yeah, will have had mine a year at the end of December.

One thing I'll note is about gas. The car will operate fine on 87 octane Regular gas. No problem. But I can actually feel the difference going to 89 octane Mid-grade. I notice it most in small throttle applications, such as when going from coasting to light throttle. With 87 octane gas I feel a little "hitch" or tiny hesitation, which with 89 octane is not there. And I don't think it's my imagination that the car feels peppier.

I can't justify paying 50-60 cents a gallon more to go from 87 to 91 octane Premium, but I can swallow the 25 cents a gallon difference going to 89 octane.

I'll also say that I didn't notice the difference right away ... apparently the car has to recalibrate itself for the octane difference, but after the second tank it began to drive better. I know it's just 2 octane points difference, but that's my experience.

I only use 93... with the JB4, you have to use at least 89 but 91 is recommended (map1), and if you want to use map2, you need 93 octane. Otherwise you will get misfires all over the place.

It’s only money right... :)
