I just recently purchased a stinger Gt 2, two days later found out it would only run 140 mph. This was serious mistake on my part, I noticed the 18 inch wheels and asked why, sales man at peak Kia, told me that awd cars had the option to get all season tires, and if you got that they changed the tire size to better fit. I thought sounds like crap, but he assured me Kia changed nothing else. Then found out different. I just knew when I seen the V speed rating on that 18 inch tire, that something was wrong. If any body knows why Kia done all of this I would love to hear it
Thanks, I live in Colorado so the awd is a must.

I kept my 19 inch rims with summer tires and ordered a set of Pilot Sport 3 plus UHPAS tires. I'd like to find a good deal from someone on a set of stock rims to mount my summer tires on. Hopefully from someone replacing their stock wheels. If not I'll prob sell them.

Wait, so are you saying your car is electronically limited to 140? Or just the tires are rated for 140?

That can't be correct the 18 's maybe rated to I think 149 but the car speed in the v6 only comes one way and that's a top speed of 167 ish who said 140 was top?

He's basing that 140 mph off of the tire rating I believe.

There's a place in the US, where "only" 140 mph would be a problem? :)

PS: Many winter tires are also not vmax tires around here. I'd want to see someone going 140+ mph in snowy Alps, though :)

The only way my stinger will get over 140 mph, if you drove it off a cliff. I'm not far from doing that because I know have been lied to. Kia Corp. Want touch it, already tried, they offered me some nice floor mats for my disappointment!

I have driven that stinger over and over to the computer shut off at 140 mph. When I question Kia corp( a premium product repersenitive, named Bill West) at first they denied it, then came back, said yes you are right, how about some nice floor mats for your disappointment. Told me, my sales person should have explained. I live in vail Colorado and even with the snow I can open this car up to where the computer will shut it down. Kia Corp, nor the dealer offer any solution.

If this car was bought by one person to drive the speed limit, what a waste of money. Should of bought yourself a ford fiesta.

I don't recall this happening here, limiting cars to the rating of the tires ... but I do remember that if you put on tires, that are rated for less than your cars maximum speed, then you need to put a sticker in the cockpit saying so.

I guess you can just put on other tires and ask the dealership to remove the limit?

I offered to just that, Kia Corp. Refused.

That makes no sense. If the limit is in place for the tires, the new tires fix the issue. I'd tell them seven kinds of hell if they refused that.

Segador,

I have noticed the same problem! I got my baby home last week. I seen your post last night. So, today I had to go find a place to test your statement. What I am left with is the fact KIA sold me a set of balls I love! However, they castrated me the same day. Today, I found I only had a max speed on 140. Hell, I wanted a diffrent paint interior setup at first. Now, I just want them to reattach the balls I thought I bought. I will say it ran like a spotted ape right up to 140. Wish I could have got the RWD now, but here in Montana, I would only drive it a few months a year.

KIA REMOVE THE LIMITER FROM THE AWD!!
I will be calling customers service tomorrow!

One pissed little lady!

So, do we know if this is all AWD units, or just the units that were configured from the factory with the 18s and all-season tires? Mine is an AWD with the 19s and summer rubber from the factory, to which I have fitted Y-rated UHPAS rubber.

I lack the driving conditions and clear, straight road to test this on my own, lol.

I seem to remember that there was a potential difference in speedo, as well. I remember seeing something about a 160MPH speedo vs a 180MPH speedo somewhere... I'll have to double-check mine when I leave for work this morning.

Just a question : Where do you realistically get to go above 100mph in the US apart from a Drag Strip ?

In the UK the max limit is 70mph, and you can drive a just below 100mph without instant lose of licence if you are caught - Only in France/Germany have I gone above 100mph, even then I went to 130mph, even though the car I was driving could easily do 155 (restricted).

We're not really "allowed" to go that fast, and penalties are somewhat stiff for getting caught, but some people like to do it anyway.

I mean, it's not likely that the entire throttle map has been changed to make the vehicle top out at that speed... It likely pulls just as hard to 140MPH as it would to any other speed within its capabilities.

I think the dissatisfaction lies in the fact that Kia didn't seem to document this anywhere, be it within the published specs, or in the Owner's Manual, etc. I can understand feeling misled by that fact.

Hell, it might even be in some fine print somewhere, but I've never seen it.
