I think the dissatisfaction lies in the fact that Kia didn't seem to document this anywhere, be it within the published specs, or in the Owner's Manual, etc. I can understand feeling misled by that fact..
I understand and agree with that; I wasn't trying to say "you can't go that fast so who gives a s***?" .... just trying to understand the US ;). I know some states police patrol the highways and roads all the time, and spend more time stopping people going 2-3 miles above the speed limit than catching thieves ... where others states may not care as much - so wondered if there were states you can easily go over 150mph on a road with little risk.

In the UK the Motorways are generally free from police but you'll never really get above 100mph due to high traffic ... so unless it's 2am, you an't going that fast ... and if at 2am you are more likely to get police (that you can't see in time) on the roads - either way it more about over taking fast, and speed off the lights!

I am about sick of this I keep finding out every other day what my car cant do or doesn't have, someone from Kia better show me where they mentioned that as my dealer did not and for the money i paid I will be calling my attorney

I believe i read somewhere that if you get the all-season tire option, the car has a lower limited top speed due to the tires.

Well this whole conversation is super disappointing! In everything Kia has said and everything I've read the 168 number was mentioned over and over and over again. For all you saying you can't go that fast anyway. That's not really the point. I would have taken the car to the salt flats just to try..
I went from being a 100% sure I was going to buy the car, then the price was 5k higher than it should be and they removed all the content, and I dropped to 50/50. Now between this and the goofy stuff I've been reading the last few days, (trans tunnel burning people, no heated zone for the wipers, weird rear seat HVAC controls), and now them flat out misrepresenting the top speed, I might just be 100% out. Bummer..

So, do we know if this is all AWD units, or just the units that were configured from the factory with the 18s and all-season tires? Mine is an AWD with the 19s and summer rubber from the factory, to which I have fitted Y-rated UHPAS rubber.

I lack the driving conditions and clear, straight road to test this on my own, lol.

I seem to remember that there was a potential difference in speedo, as well. I remember seeing something about a 160MPH speedo vs a 180MPH speedo somewhere... I'll have to double-check mine when I leave for work this morning.
Yes, Kia Corp told me I should a 150 mph on speed o, but it don't it has 180 mph w/ inside numbers at 280 km/h. I took a picture a said WTF, Why do I have everything but the 19 inch wheels and the 167 mph car!!!! I have been stone walled by Kia, told to bad, so sorry, want nice floor mats!??!?? Yea like that is going to make for the lack of speed.. Think how that feels if your on desolate and remote stretch of road come across that beamer that wants to play, nail the throttle to find out you got 140 mph super nothing!! The beamer either thinks you have no balls, or that Kia is a lying POS..
I finally found something that refers to the fact that they cut the nuts off these cars, a small pamphlet with just the word stinger on it, and at the very back, last page in a picture of a wheel it says, a car with optional seasonal tires has reduced speed. Now put them words on a window sticker, and see if you sell another one! I have been screwed and Kia refuses to fix it, if I knew this before I bought it, Kia would still have it on their lot.

If I was the owner of Kia, and I found out one my pencil pushing pricks done this to my flagship for the whole company. I would send him on a vacation in North Korea, with a over night excursion with a firing squad. Then tell the guy that replaces him " DO NOT FAIL ME AGAIN" . This goes beyond bad business, but more like extortion. They dangled this very miss represented car in front of us, we bought it in good faith, to find out we were lied to! This will be my last Kia, if Kia don't make this right!

Welcome @Segador and @StingerChick. Thank you for signing up. And, despite your issues, congratulations on your new Stingers... So I'm just getting started here and have a lot of work to do - and maybe I'm rushed through the discussion... But it appears we're looking at an issue where all wheel drive Stingers with the twin turbo V6 that come with 18" wheels are limited to 140 miles per hour. Am I understanding this correctly? I see we've found that "fine print" a couple of posts above...

Man, I thought I was upset about the 360 camera omission, which is actually real-world usable.

@Segador, you'll probably have to sue for any relief. I doubt they'll re-program for you, and might even be prevented from doing so by the US DOT. You might want to research what the manual says about the cars with 19" summer tires. Do they specifically call out the higher speed capability, and hence state that it's necessary to keep sport tires on it? If not, it's the opposite approach, but could demonstrate a documentation gap.

Yes, from everything I have found out so far, all American (U.S) cars that have 18 inch tires and wheels. Have been electronically controlled to run no more than 140 mph. Now even though, I love this car, it drives and handles like no other. I have the red nappa leather seats, that will make your butt, smile when you set in them. The car is fun to drive, it has enough leg room, so that is comfortable, I could drive it all day. I say that, but I did not spend this money on a stinger for the seats! I bought it because, it was advertised, to be a 167 mph car. That's it and that's all, it is with out a doubt it a great GRAND TOURISMO. WITH OUT THE SPEED TO GO WITH IT, SHOULD HAVE JUST BOUGHT A RIO!

This is likely a liability and CYA thing... it seems everybody is suing anybody they can these days... can you imagine if a tire blowout happened with the 18" Y-rated tires at speeds higher than they are rated because the car is able to go faster than that rating? There are probably regulations on this (or will be)...

I don't get it ...
! I bought it because, it was advertised, to be a 167 mph car. !
Up to 168mph.

Also the car can still do over 140mph if you change the tyre's. You can't expect an All Weather Tyre (or Winter M+S Tyre) to exceed 140mph - there may be some out there, but I doubt it.

On my Jag I had to put 120mph Tyre's on in the winter ... yet the car could do 155mph. Who the smeg is going to do over 120mph in the wet/snow/cold? No one with an ounce of brain.

You can ask the Dealership to supply free normal summer tyre's as compensation for the miss-understanding.

Kia Corp has refused Any Solution, but nice set of floor mats. The PREMIUM CAR REP was so embarrassed by his boss, I wanted to but my daughter on the phone, so they could have a good cry together. She had a SHITTY diaper and he work for a SHITTY company!!

Just an FYI.

Audi does this exact same thing based on tires they put on the car. If you get summer tires on your Audi S3 then your top speed is limited to 155mph. If you opt for All Season tires then they limit your top speed to 130 mph.

I believe it is a US regulation that does not allow them to sell a vehicle that can exceed the speed rating of the OEM tires.

yep we got Facked I discussed the specs with my dealership rep and talked about 167mph, I had no choice on the 18's thats all they had in Indiana so yea your dam right I better get 19's and summer tires for the bullshit so I texted my rep and asked a silly question this is his reply like an hr ago he obviously doesn't even know 20180117_095825.webp

Yes, I did ask if i could change the tires, if they would change the limiter. They said NO.
Also BF Goodwrench makes a great all season tire with a much higher speed rating (G 2). I have a set on my turbo charged shortage, they are the best on snow.! When the pavement is dry, they grip the road like have super glue on them! Unlike this Bridgestone crap they put on this GT. It makes me so mad to know I got hire a lawyer to get made whole in this. I will hire the Biggest Rat in the Shit House though if I have too. Anybody got O.J. 's lawyer's number??

I could not believe, how far up the I had to go to find this out, NOBODY knew nothing about it!!

Then they should have put AS tires on it that have the same speed rating as the summers!

I believe you are correct.

It does not matter what tyres are on the car if KIA has put a governor on the car. Guys it is not a matter that the tyres are not rated high enough! (I am willing to put the correct rated tyre on my baby). Going to a tyre company and pitting a higher speed rating does not change KIA bull shit limiter! Can't wait till I can call them!

Sooooooo mad!

And NO 150 mph is not legal in American! My butt will be under the jail but I am the little kid yelling faster, faster, faster... However, responsible enough to pick my area so I am the only one who will get hurt.

KIA please cut the rubber band off my balls!
